Broken Wings

In Pre 2016

I sat on the branch of the oak tree
Still
And I cried as he left me
Still

But as I fell from the branches
Landing softly on the ground
My wings turned to ashes

He returned
And crouched at my dying body
Then he kissed my hair
While standing there
He apologised for hurting me

Yet, as a tear dropped from his eye
And he heard a deadly cry
He turned and looked away

I grabbed his hand
And he turned back
Only to see
That I was dead.

I have to agree with the overall statement that says that this is a little cliched.
But, (and, yes, there is a but) the way you've written it excuses this. You've got greeeeeaaaaat potential, all you need to do is spread your wings and fly, my sister, fly (channeling whoopi goldberg, here)
Lovely piece, very emotive. A pleasure to read and review.

First off, I'd like to say that I do think you can be good at poetry if you continue working at it. This piece does show some good images but the theme is overdone so it's hard not to be cliched.

Personally, I think you can grow as a poet by exploring objects and events that have meaning to you. Poems become more powerful when the author uses his/her experience to create a new twist on an old theme. Seemingly small objects and events can express a deeper meaning.

This poem is okay overall but I think your future work should be less general and more unique to your experience. Keep writing! :)

I see what you mean. Looking back now, I can tell how general it is.. I shall think of something unique!

The idea of the oak tree in the beginning was certainly interesting and I do like the strong emotions that are in this place. It's always very nice when you read things if you can sort of feel emotion coming from it. However, I do think that some of the imagery risked being too cliche when the whole point of the poem was considered. But you know, it's always good to try your hand at new things, even if you don't know how it's going to work out, and that's definitely an admirable thing in my book. :)

So, if you decide you want to write more poetry, I fully encourage you to keep at it!

Hey World!

You reviewed my poetry, so I'm here to do the same for you. You definitely are good a poetry (and at reviews ),

You wrote an interesting poem for sure. I like your pacing and your spelling and grammar are both excellent.

It's a bit of a depressing poem; but that's not necessarily a bad thing in poetry, as it did carry emotion, which is what I look for in a poem.

I'm not very good at reviewing poetry, but I hope this helped some.

Keep writing!

~Shady
