A/N: Heyoo, it's been such a long time since I've been on this site. So much to do with school and all but summer rolled along and now I'm back! I haven't been writing in a while but here's one of my recent poems I strung together during 3 am coffee kicks. Hope you guys like it!
_
Thoughts collectively fall into my mind
And get released during bedtime.
I toss and I turn, hoping those thoughts
Will fall out of my ears but they stay running.
_
They rage against the confines in my head,
Digging cavities into my brain as it festers.
Rotting holes fill my nose with an odor
Only darkness can call cologne.
_
My bloodshot eyes beg for a sign of dreams,
But all they could find are nightmares.
The only place where I felt safe, is now a
War zone where I'm alone on the battlefield.
_
Months turned to weeks and now everyday.
I count the pills but they're never enough.
The bags under my eyes continue to fall,
As my hope falls along with them.
_
My toes find its way down the stairs
Following the scent towards the kitchen.
Opening the fridge, the light casts
A halo around what I'm looking for.
_
I quickly pour the calming potion.
The sweetest cold juice runs warm as it
Slowly carousels around in the microwave.
The subtle hum like a lullaby of rest.
_
The gentle nectar cradles my mind,
Filling the hollows with dreams as it
Blankets a soft embrace around my tired soul.
It closes my restless eyes for a warm
Goodnight, Sweet dreams, Till tomorrow.

Kazey here for a review!
I found this poem quite haunting. You gave vivid yet simple descriptions of the most mundane of things, and I think that's what created this haunting, captivating voice that held my attention for the whole poem. I love the juxtaposition (if you can call it that) of the warm milk with the coldness and cruelty of insomnia. That really helped drive home the poem.
Just a very minor critique.
I felt the verb running seemed a little awkward to use to describe thoughts. I would personally use something like flowing or flying.
All in all, a really solid poem, and i hope to read more of your work in the future!

Hey! Thank you so much for the review and I'm glad you enjoyed it. I'll keep your suggestions in mind when I have the time to make a few corrections. Thanks again!
It was slightly less "warm" than I had expected, but over all, a well worded and very relatable poem. I always turn to a warm glass of milk at night when I'm stressed, and insomnia takes over. I had thought that this poem would focus just a little more on the warmth and satisfaction of the milk itself, but this is very nice too. Well done! Keep going.

Hi there. Review time! Oh and before I begin, you made me laugh because I didn't recognize Urie in your profile pic at first, haha.
So long as you do it effectively, which you have.
So overall, I thought your poem was quite nice, being an occasional insomniac myself.
This part here, (I have got to learn the quote code!)

is my favorite stanza. The imagery talks of something somewhat mundane, but the way you describe it gives the scene a very calming allure.
As does your other descriptions of the haunting 'unable to close your eyes' trauma. I tend to complicate my descriptions because I like detail, but your simple yet somehow intricately careful description works very well. Lovely!
I can feel the warm milk cradling me to sleep! Great ending too. And I hate bugging people for odd punctuation and such, as in your last line because poetry is art. Do your art, your way!
Now, here's come the critique (though minimal).
I like the first stanza, but the line, "And get released during bedtime," confuses me a bit. Maybe it's the chocolate macchiato I had earlier that fogging my head, but I think this doesn't make much sense.
Well, actually it does, but aren't the thoughts more torturous DURING bedtime? I see what you're saying, though, the more I think about. Maybe you could word that line more, hmm, creatively? Anyway, my apologies for rambling over a single line. I'm very particular. That is really the ONLY thing I'm not too fond of.
Everything else is perfect, in my opinion.
Besides that, a beautifully written, well-thought out piece, dear! I can't express just how good I think it is, in specifics because I've worn myself out my rambling, haha but great job!
Haha thank you so much for your review! I really appreciate it
I'm glad you enjoyed my poem and now that I think of it, I may change the second line of the first stanza. Oh and here's the code for quoting:
Thanks again!
Oops haha its
The quote goes in where the space is but with no space... If that makes sense!
No problem! And thanks so much!
I'm sorry that didn't really help at all xD you could find a bunch of codes here: Big Book of YWS Codes
