i. the climax
Circumstance and I each had
one finger on the trigger,
with you on the other end.
It whispered to me
Kill him or kiss him. But do one,
lest you die instead.
Your lips grew closer to mine,
our breath condensing in hot waves.
The barrel dug into your chest,
the handle into mine.
But I,
a coward,
dropped the gun.
I,
a fool,
turned away.
There was no finality,
just that invisible wound of possibility.
That foolish promise of there's still time.
Go to him, and maybe you'll hear the cinematic swell of violins
telling you you're doing the right thing.
ii. the aftermath
Spoiler alert: I didn't go back.
Instead I spent days typing messages I would never send,
until it felt like I'd had entire conversations with you
that never actually happened.
I knew you that well;
well enough that I didn't really need you,
just an idea in my head.
So I kissed another person,
and thought about kissing countless others.
You became another failed project,
And I told myself it was time to store you in the basement
and let you gather dust.
I let the memories clot and cauterize and heal.
I let myself move on, conversations scattered to the stream.
I let myself believe—wrongly—that I would never go back
to you.
iii. the future
No one else has ever felt like you.
Because you came with hope.
Hope that it might actually work out.
That maybe—
That ugly, disgusting maybe—
I could love
and be loved.
What can I say to you
after nearly a year?
I'm sorry I was a horrible friend
or how has your life been?
My dreams tell me how much I love you— oh, right, I love you
or how's school going?
I have so much to say
but you were never really good with words.
Are you really
the one that got away
if I was the one to leave?
Are you the one that I could never have,
the one I forsook for something I can't even remember now?
This is heartbreak
but not the usual kind.
This is the kind
where I cry not for the end of us,
but for the fact we never started.

Hey there!!! Here for a brief review...
Firstly Your poem is the epitome of passion and endearment, filled with so much desire, attachment and emotions, thereby successfully translating the inner voice of the unloved ....
Its truly magnificent the way this poem will echo profound and intense tragedies of unfinished love stories of numerous readers ... Those who have experienced sleepless nights romanticizing, yearning for the one to come back and remember them .
Every breath and thought revolving around their valuable existence, their memories still fresh as sprouting upon the hills ... This poem surely resonates on our first love and sometimes lamentably the last love of a few...
All in All, the structure of the poem is striking, keeping the flow in check .. i haven't read such a tender and pure hearted poem in ages so i truly enjoyed reading every single line of the poem ... its a breathtaking masterpiece !!!!
Wow..this poem was really emotional. The painful feeling of knowing that a beautiful love never started is described well over here! I have a question is this (or some of this, anyway) from Taylor Swift songs? Because you mentioned Taylor Swift in the blurb and I’m curious. However, the overall poem was detailed and emotional. It felt real.I enjoyed reading this poem.I hope you have a lovely and wonderful day and night.
Thanks for the review! In response to your question: no, this isn't a Taylor Swift song. The description was just a little joke. There's a part in the song I mentioned that goes "please don't be in love with someone else" and I was feeling that vibe as I wrote the poem. Thanks again for the review!!
Umm, wtf. This hit me and hurt me right in the perfect spot. I, myself, am trying to get over someone who could not care less about me... I think. I have no idea because he doesn't talk much. lmao. I loved how this was worded and put together, I love the timing. I left my favorite parts down below but the first one is my absolute favorite. That shit is so real and definitely is going in my favorite quotes folder. I feel like we writers have so much to say, we romanticize everything, every interaction and thought. I never noticed until now that when I think of him, I'm talking to him, I have conversations with him. I forget that he hasn't heard anything from me, so much has happened to me with him, that he has no idea about. Anyways, sorry for the dump of my feelings, this writing just really made me feel something lol. I loved this!

I'm glad it was able to resonate with you! I loved hearing your thoughts! Thank you so much for the review!
Ohh interesting! The structure of the different 'acts' (climax, aftermath and future) was really fun and gave this piece a unique flavour.
^ this was a neat image. I love me a good 'breaking the fourth wall' moment!
Thanks Lim!! Glad you enjoyed
