Perseverance Never Lies

In Poetry

When adversity stares
you right in the face,
When time stands so still
as if locked in one place,

Will you stare back?
Will you seize the day?

If a drop of rain fell
upon your dull skin,
If you loved only once
and never again,

Would you look up?
Would you let them in?

'Cause when you stare back -
when you seize the day,
A new door is opened;
a new path made way.

And when you look up -
when you let them in,
A new outlook is gained;
in them a new friend.

So look as you will,
and take as you may.
Just never forget,
Tomorrow's a new day.

Hi, Matt.

This is going to be a somewhat short review, but I thought I'd stop by real quick and share a few thoughts.

Let's start off with your strong points: the message you chose to convey, though a bit overused from time to time, is good. Overall, I like the theme of the piece itself. Secondly, your poem is uniform and keeps a steady rhythm - the flow isn't bad, either. Nice work.

I think this piece's main problem is that it lacks that depth and emotion that a lot of writers are looking for. Obviously you have quite a fan base already - they obviously adore your writing as it is - but hopefully that won't prevent you from taking what I'm saying into consideration.

Your wording is bland... very cliche, very ordinary. In all honesty I've seen half of these lines (or something similar to them) inside of a fortune cookie, and believe me.. you don't want to write like a fortune cookie (or maybe you do - technically that's not my call, I suppose). It's not captivating, for starters. And it doesn't do whatever artistic ability you have any justice. I like this poem, yes; however, I wasn't impressed by it in any way. I bet you have the ability to write some great pieces of work - pieces that connect with the reader on a more intimate level than just a simple life lesson - but if I were only able to read one poem by you and that poem happened to be this one, I wouldn't be convinced at all.

Anyway. Sorry this review isn't very thorough - hopefully it helped out a little, though.
Keep writing.

This is well written, the image is awesome. I like how you ask the questions in the middle stanzas, and how you end the poem. Probably not my favorite poem, but it is well written

Hi... God I've seriously become addicted to your works... Its so brilliant and deep...!!! And this one was specifically good.. The flow was smooth and gentle and so was the rhyme... And that's all I can say..because I'm out of words!!:)

Probably, it's just me but, the first time I read this, I was confused and didn't get to relate the poem with the title until the last time. o.o Stupid me lol. Anyway, you have such a natural talent with poems! :D The rhymes and the words flow easily. And I like how positive this poem is. ^_^

I only have a problem with these lines:

If a drop of rain fell
upon your dull skin,
If you loved only once
and never again,

Would you look up?
Would you let them in?

- I can't seem to relate it with the what the poem's about. o.o But like I said, it's probably just me. :)

Never stop writing! I should start following you now! :D

This is a really nice poem. I enjoyed it so much, I read it three times. The rhyth is steady, the theme and mood are clear. And the topic is something many people can relate to. My favorite part is by far the last stanza. It ks always good to solidly summarize your poem in the end, and I think you succeeded on this. My only guestion is for the line

upon your dull skin

Why is said person's skin dull? Maybe to show how ordinary, I am not sure. But thats it, really. Im going to click "like" now.
