I was swamped in the crowd,

And longed to see,

But the throng stood fast,

In front of me.

I pushed and shoved,

And battled through,

'Till the noose was in sight,

And I had a good view.

"Hang him, hang him!"

Cries and cheers,

I stood silent,

And faced my fears.

Out he walked,

With straggled hair,

His trousers filthy,

His chest laid bare.

He scanned the crowd,

His eyes ablaze,

I stood silent,

And met his gaze.

Love the good rhythm and flow of this one. Poems that are rhyming are my favorite ones. This was so strong and I read this like a song in my head.

''And face my fears'' is a very powerful line and the strongest one in this poem, I can relate to that line so much, that line gives me hope, that I must face my fears and not losing in it.

''Cries and cheers'' is a nice one too, you have put two emotions together and that was very special.

Keep up the good work....

The Missing piece here for a review! I loved this because it flows easily and doesn't seem forced! I can picture the man about to be hanged and I can clearly see how the crowd feels about this man. I kind of want to know more about him! You've got a good characters even though it's a poem! My favorite part was

"Out he walked,

With straggled hair,

His trousers filthy,

His chest laid bare.

He scanned the crowd,

His eyes ablaze,

I stood silent,

And met his gaze."

I liked this because you describe him perfectly! I also like how the character is daring enough to look into the eyes of someone who is about to die! Good job! Keep writing!

This us certainly a very nice poem, with a lovely rhythm and a great rhyme structure. The only fault I would give is that the last line could be improved, or the poem extended to the point of hanging. This would conclude the poem better, and allow for the last line to be one of emotion.
Hope this helps,
Take That You Fiend!

Thanks for the review :)
I understand what you mean about extending it to the hanging, and I agree that that would make for a more climactic ending!

Hm, this is certainly an interesting poem. Even though it did not rhyme, the poem had a good, constant rhythm to it that made it enjoyable and easier to read. This is a powerful and dynamic piece, and the imagery you have created there is quite excellent. Also I like the suspense and the atmosphere on this poem, however like ConverseFireGirl said, don't use too much commas. Only use it to demonstrate your point or the significance of the sentence or phrase. You had some good words in there, nice work! Never use overused words, it makes your poem dull.

However, with the ending. I feel as if you could have done something different to it, to make it more of a dramatic ending. Like a grand finale, because of all the tension building up to it. Overall, great job! Keep up writing! :D

Tahnks for the review :) I will take what you say into account! However, I'd like to point out that this IS a rhyming poem... the last word of every other line rhymes, I believe. Thanks again, though!

Hey there! Alex here to review this poem!
First off, I like how you chose the topic hanging but not focusing on the actual event rather that if the spectators do it for justice or for entertainment, very original! I also love your rhyming pattern, difficult to pull off, but you did it very well! I can't spot any grammarical issues as well! You had capitals, punctuation, the works!
The only problem I could see (and a small one at that) is that on the 6th line "Battled" shouldn't be capitalized.
Overall, very nice poem! *drops like*
Oh yeah! And welcome to YWS!!

Thanks a lot :) Yeah, I can see that "Battled" is wrongly capitalized... oops!

Wow, this was a powerful piece. A very powerful piece indeed.
The last line is so well written and makes it seem more REAL, and makes the reader almost sympathize more with the person who is about to be hanged. Emphasis on the word MORE. :P
As we only see it from the watcher's point of view, you still keep it very mysterious, only describing what he sees and hears, and not what he thinks or if he knows the person about the be hanged. A relative? A friend? A lover? Who? I like these questions unanswered though, they add a good atmosphere to the piece. Some confusion which I can imagine it would be like in the crowd.

Only thing I'd suggest is to perhaps use fewer commas in this, the line breaks already make a natural break in it, so don't over use them like in the last couple of lines :)
Overall, amazing work, I am following, liking, and giving review! :D

Thank you so much! This is actually the first thing I've ever posted on here, so it's lovely to have such nice comments about it! I completely understand what you said about the commas, too. Thanks again :)

No problem, great work! :D

Should we not walk? On our feet? The ones I now have again? I do like my feet. They are befittingly perambulatory.
