Loneliness is not that bad

E - Everyone

In 2014

Loneliness is when my list of contacts
is just a faceless list of names and numbers
It is when I write letters to myself
only to crumple up the pages and laugh.
It is when I can even
hear the sound of the coffee I pour myself
and actually focus on the tinkle of the spoon
as I stir the sugar.

Loneliness is when I can smell a book for a minute
without anyone laughing at this quirk of mine.
Loneliness is clarity,
when I'm lonely I can tell
if a joke is a joke, or a hurtful one-liner
I can tell if a singer really means the song
or if he's just, you know, 'singing'
I can mentally dissect an instrumental
into distinct drums - kick, hat, hi-hat, snare.
Loneliness is when a piano and a violin
describe how I feel.

It is that alternation
between peace and pain, I oscillate
from its troughs to its crests -
loneliness is not that bad
(what's your name?)

Hey there.

So normally I would be reviewing things, but I love your poem so much that I'm gonna spend this time to give you kudos instead :) It's a very insightful and meaningful poem. Really love the metaphors and ideas in this poem. I hope you'll write more on here.

Andy.

I'm speechless. You're probably the first person I've said this to. Be honored, thy great human/god.

All jokes aside, this is one of the best, if not original take on loneliness I have ever read. Not to mention your metaphors are absolutely spot-on and you've twisted loneliness itself into its alternative ego as compare to what most people seen.

I'm speechless.

Hey there. This really hit the spot for me. I'm alone most of the time and I can easily relate to this so much. I think you did a really amazing job and I hope to read more of your poetry. Great Job!!

Wow, I have to say that I am really impressed. The plot is absolutely amazing. I got really emotional when I was reading it. Your use of figurative language and advanced vocabulary words are perfect. There is nothing to correct. This is completely an appreciation comment. Keep up the great work, you are a wonderful poet :)

Holy crud...

This is one of the best ways to explain how loneliness feels like. I could relate to every one of these, I find myself doing the same whenever I feel lonely.

Loneliness is a great theme to pick when writing poems (I'm not saying that it itself is good, only that it is an interesting theme), and you have written in a very broad and deep way that clearly shows what loneliness feels for you, that some might relate very well to.

Overall, great and powerful poem.

Keep up the good work :)

Hi shoaib! :)

Loneliness is a relative thing. Some might equate being alone (not the cliche type) with being lonely. Some might say a life without meaning is a life that is lonely. This poem says that loneliness translates to tranquility, harmony, and peace, though sometimes, pain - loneliness is a good thing. :)

I had a good time reading this. This would be the last poem that I'll be reviewing today. :)

Though this is poem is more of a free verse; the lines are quite witty and thought-out. While reading this poem I visualized a room with lots of sunlight, and white all over. White is usually associated with peace, tranquility, and harmony. :) So I guess being lonely isn't loneliness at all.

I need to get some sleep. :) This is a good poem. :) Keep on writing more.

(Hi, I'm Jacel. Have a nice day.)

thanks for the smiley-filled review!
