Compassion is a disease

In Poetry

compassion is supposed to be a good thing

it's listed in every Mary Sue's trait list

and yet

it is

a disease

compassion keeps me up at night

crying over hurts I can't heal

because

it is

a disease

compassion disconnects me from reality

as I cut myself on broken things

because

it is

a disease

compassion makes me feel wounds deeply

as if they're my own

because

it is

a disease

compassion duplicates knives from other's wounds

and stabs them into my chest

because

it is

a disease

compassion makes me want to help

and tells me there's nothing I can do

because

it is

a disease

compassion is supposed to be a good thing

everyone tells me it is

and yet

it is

a disease

Hi AceassinOfTheMoon,

I really enjoyed this poem. Not only because I relate to it, but because the structure makes reading--as far as understanding the message--easier.

As I mentioned before, I relate to this poem. Some nights, I can't help but think what's the point of being compassionate if it gets taken advantage of? Compassion is a good trait to have, especially in the polarized world we live in. When I think of the aforementioned thoughts I try to practice self-compassion. Meaning, I try to be kind to myself in those moments when I feel like my compassion towards others is pointless.

Compassion is a disease, yes. I agree with you there. But I implore you to practice self-compassion when you feel sick from this disease (easier said than done, right?). When you are sick, usually you want to feel better. Or maybe you already do and I'm just rambling!

Anyways, repetition is a great way to convey the effect compassion has on your feelings. I really liked how you utilized it fully. It made for an excellent poem. :)

This poem! Ahhh!! So good! I'm totally fan-personing(? rip gender neutral terms) over this work. I can relate a lot to this, andit reminded me of all the internal battles I've fought for other people who's problems are just the same with or without their suffering getting shared. Being compassionate can be an almost unbearable burden at times. This is an exemplary example of "too much of a good thing." The theme comes across very well, great job!

Getting into the technical stuff, I really like the voice used. It's almost argumentitive, which works very well! The refrain being drawn out over multipile lines helps to hammer it in, too. Great job, and keep writing!

Indeed, compassion is absolutely a good thing and one really has to appreciate that fact.
You are also right when you pointed it as a disease, but I don't buy that fact, not yet to give you a coded review, i think i would have to go with that.
First if all, the powm is a sound one and i sincerely buy that.
The alarm that rings in us and sets us ablaze is the multisets of compassion. Although it could make us do crazy things we may not like to do on our own. Though good but Is likenly absolute.
Many at times, we seem to carry the burdens of others on our shoulders and that my swear hurts more than we could imagine, yet we have no say, all for the fruit of compassion.
Its likely to be a sorry of gift or something you can grow by yourself, but note that if yours its a gift than no matter how plagued and diseased it keeps you, you cannot in anyway do away with it.
Most times, we do things we may not like to do all because we think it doesn't concern us or is or business, but like you said, its a wound that adds to our wound and that may be correct.
My advice is that no matter how far we may think that the concept of compassion is offhanded or out of date, we shouldn't forget that it was this same idea of compassion that still kept us alive and in union with the creator and things around us.
I appreciate your literary terms and so but I think wouldn't just be writing things we feel is right but things that are plain, natural and right.
