I am putting together a crew for the LSS.

@Snoink
@Icythus
@Book

The plot hook is this: you are experienced adventurers that have been brought together for a series of challenging tasks by a mysterious benefactor.

Unbeknownst to the party, there mysterious benefactor is none other than the big bad evil guy, who is hiring adventuring parties to defeat his potential rivals and improve his defenses, all while studying the heroes in anticipation of defeating them during the final big confrontation!

The heroes first assemble at a tavern called the Boars Snout Tavern, where you will meet Sally Dildally, a representative of a mysterious benefactor. The first mission: kill Mr. Bojangles, a jackalope whose sense of humor has offended the BBEG. If you do so, you will receive a reward of 100 Gold Pieces.

Additional missions may follow depending on the outcome of this mission.

Please post character profiles here.

@Ichthys is how you spell it...

Also, do we have to kill a jackalope??? I happen to like them...

I'll get the last member of our merry band to join YWS in a bit...

Hey friends, I'm excited to see your interest in LSS. However, I have two questions for you.

Unfortunately, the deadline to register as a competing member of LSS has passed and the competition has started. However, we're happy to bring you on as a pirate ship! This means that while you won't be officially competing, you'll still have the opportunity to claim badges and participate in all the fun! Were you originally planning on participating as a pirate ship? If so, I am sorry for the misunderstanding.

Second question: to be considered a part of the LSS festivities, you must register the name of your ship and all of your crew members in the port. If you're willing to continue as a pirate ship, can your designated captain please take care of that before the end of this week?

Again, I'm thrilled you four are ready to participate in LSS! I hope you don't find this discouraging and choose to join as Pirates this year. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me! Happy Sailing~

Hey Weeping!

To answer your second question first, I will be completing our registration once I have the minimum number of people formally signed up in the tavern. I have refrained from posting the SB topic itself until I have at least three (including myself.) As many as five may eventually be participating (one needs to join YWS first! :D)

To answer your first question, we intend to compete as an official entry. My reading of the official rules is that they do not explicitly state that registration must be completed before the competition begins.

In point of fact, the rules do not address a late entry at all. My interpretation is that a crew that signs up a week late will be considered as automatically being in a lifeboat situation, and that a crew that is two weeks late would be considered as having automatically failed the lifeboat challenge and be a pirate.

As for being pirate ships, I think we are only able to become pirate ships either by voluntary declaration, or by failing a week deadline and a subsequent lifeboat challenge, neither of which has yet come to pass.

We can ask @SilverNight to opine, but I think it would be pretty unfair to disqualify a crew for being a day late, especially when no deadline was specified. Starting late confers no disadvantage to other crews, nor would it complicate the officiating that takes place at the end of the week.

As for my crew, I dare say they are a motivated bunch. As for whether or not I consider us at a disadvantage, I will quote another Captain: "I think we can afford to give them one day's head start."

Eh, pirate ships are pretty cool. I would be down for that too, lol. ^^

(Besides, the mods have all these fancy spreadsheets and stuff and everything for the main entrants, and we'll mess everything up by being fashionably late, haha. XD)

If @WeepingWisteria can't get us in (which, honestly, valid, haha), I propose the following game to you, @Griffinkeeper:

We can be a pirate ship and pretend to follow the main ship rules that I sent you... but if we break them and our lifeboats fail, we become a ghost pirate ship instead. Which, let's face it, would be pretty awesome. Though... um... let's try not to fail???

In any case, the main point is to bring back the gang and make a story. ^^

Okay... since Book is doing a new character, I am going to start a new character as well... well, somewhat new, lol. We're basing this character off of a minor character from my story and just adapting her to this story.

Name: Vanessa
Age: 24
Occupation: Healer
Ethnicity: Human... with maybe something else, but mostly human.

Backstory:

Vanessa is a staunch pacifist. Her father lived a violent, murderous life which ended violently. Her brother is currently in prison for murder after he got carried away in a gang attack... which is something that simultaneously makes her enraged at her brother and also sad because whyyyyyyyyy.

Anyway, as far as she is concerned, violence is NEVER the answer (well... okay, maybe she would be okay with beating her brother with a stick, because seriously whyyyyyyyy) and killing someone is not something that you do. Ever.

Because she feels guilty about all the blood that her family has shed, she pursued the healing arts and became a fairly decent healer. She worked in a hospital for awhile, but after a while she got burnt out. She wants to go out and walk around in nature and revitalize a bit... but she also has school debts to pay and she likes to eat food, all of which require money. So, she's decided to join a quest as an easy way to get some quick money while wandering around nature, hoping that the quest will not be anything too objectionable...

And, if it is too violent, she has EVERY intention of changing it to a more peaceful mission...

OR ELSE.

...not sure if you want any other information, @Griffinkeeper? I know you wanted Phil Harris, BUT. Book and Ichthys can confirm that this character is fun as well. :)

I don't require a ton of info for the characters tbh, just enough so that the other authors know what they are dealing with.

I'm going to go enroll us and then I'll post a character.

I am fine with being a pirate, although it is a bit rude to just disqualify us when we are just trying to have fun. I SHOULD HOPE that we are allowed to participate as any other party would. My character is Florian. He is 18 and has a love for art. Florian has a love somewhere off in the far yonder. (No don't ask) and he is very decisive. That's the basics so hope you don't despise him already. Anyways I am excited to join this competition.

Name: Lee R. Jenkins
Age: 46
Character Traits: Usually cynical, prone to brash and outrageous outbursts. Rarely sober, never somber.

Backstory:

Raised by loving wealthy parents in a well to do neighborhood, Lee excelled in sports and academics, eventually graduating top of his class from the prestigious local academy. He was well positioned to follow in his father's footsteps as an astute merchant trader, and did just that spending ten years learning and then running the family business.

Of a fateful night, when Lee was returning home from inspecting cargo out on the docks, Lee was surprised by a band of mauradering adventurers who were trying to find a rare magical sword as part of their quest. Mistakes were made and the party mage performed a spell which sent Lee far away from the home, loving wife and family he knew. No one here knew anything of the lands or cities or nations he sought to return to, and slowly, Lee turned to drink and rage. Years past and then more years.

And so we find our tragic hero - forever an aimless wanderer seeking the answers that simply aren't.

Okay... @Book! When you have a spare moment, you should introduce your character in the story! Grif, Golux, and I have already written something... :)

While I'm waiting for more posts, here are some tips to keep in mind while writing for roleplay posts.

  1. It is better to ask for forgiveness than permission. What I mean by that is that you should feel free to use other people's characters for scenes and to put in plot hooks wherever you think they might be useful. Don't get bogged down asking the other writers if that is how their character would react, it is better to just post it and make the change later if it's even an issue to begin with.
  2. Drive the story forward! It is fine to react to things, but if all you're doing is reacting to things, then we're going to be stuck in the same scene for days.
  3. Leave plot hooks everywhere. When we visit a new location, feel free to list a number of potential lines of investigation. That way, instead of all of us pursuing the same lead, we can split up and investigate multiple things.

I hope this will encourage you to be more confident in your writing, because I think that is how we can make the word count.
