All my life you told me to be afraid of growing up.
“You’ll get wrinkled and grey.”
“You’ll never have free time.”
“You’ll wake up every morning tired and aching.”
And now you flood me with congratulations.
You suddenly switch tunes to how amazing eighteen is,
and laugh when I stare at you,
wide-eyed and trembling.
Did you think I would forget all of your Brothers Grimm fairytales?
Did you think I would ignore how awful you said this would be?
And now suddenly I’m the problem for panicking,
for fearing the thing you always taught me to dread.
So which is it?
No really, tell me please.
Is adulthood a nightmare or everything I always dreamed of?
Because right now I just want to be a kid a little longer,
but for that you’re staring at me
in horror
in shock
like you’re surprised that I was listening all those years.
I’m seventeen for one more day,
and suddenly I’m the freak for listening to you.

Euphory <333333333 I think you did a great job highlighting the contradiction of growing up being both a blessing and a curse :/ hoping your birthday will go well nonetheless <3

If it helps, I'm almost 24 now and can say that, while becoming an adult is definitely a rough phase with a lot of big milestones packed in, I think I'm having the best time of my life so far, like it actually feels like mine for once. I've had these goals for what I want my life to look like for years and now I'm at the point where I can actually start making those happen. It's a mixed bag lol, but honestly your best bet is probably to just do you and live outside all the hype and fearmongering as best you canit's probably mostly coming from adults who don't feel fulfilled with their own lives and are projecting >.>

Do I have to do this? *deep sigh* Fine. Whatever. I guess.
Hello. I have been thoroughly begged by a… *squints at paper* @Spearmint to do this #characterinterviews so I’m here. Celebrate. Or don’t. I don’t really care. You may call me the Narrator. Death asked me really nicely to humor this site so I am. Please note my participation as unwilling and coerced. Thank you.
Ljungtroll Narrator, how are you today? And what do you enjoy about narrating?
Feb 22, 2023
WeepingWisteria I am overworked, not paid, and tired. And frankly what I enjoy about narrating is a whole lot of mostly nothing and a tiny fraction of sometimes it’s okay I guess.

I know this is sooooo late but shhh. Let me live dysfunctionally, okay? #AlphabetAnswers #socialmonth
Are you a morning or night person? Right now, I’m currently just pond sludge someone poured into a combat boot.
Biggest Pet Peeve: Uncapitalized I’s in essay writing and ticking clocks

Favorite YWS Work: Uhhh probably LMS VI: Yara-ma-yha-who and The Stars
Greatest achievement: In mock trial, I competed as three roles (Prosecution Pretrial, Defense Pretrial, and a prosecution witness) and I won an award for all three of them :]
Hardest part of the writing process: Not giving in to the brain demons and actually writing.
If you won the lottery, what would you do? Set up a community fridge in my community then save for law school.
Joke: Me.
Know a fun fact? Back in ~Victorian England~ arsenic was used as a green dye, and flavoring agent, and as a very common decor.
Last read: Hamlet by William Shakespeare.
Main writing project: Uhh, that would be Something about Monsters, The Revolutionaries, and The Fight for Forever. Two novels and one short story collection.
Note to your past self: Hey, you are worth so much more than what everyone else has said. You don’t need to prove them wrong. They proved themselves wrong the moment they opened their mouths.
One non-necessity you couldn't live without: Hmmm. Probably tea? I don’t know.
Person you admire: My mom <33
Question you'd like people to answer below: What was the first piece of fiction/poem you wrote and what was its synopsis?
Reason to write: Because it is the only way to carve this world into a home. Writing is my escape, my kingdom, my soul.

What are you working on? A poetry collection that just needs one more poem.
EXciting news: I’m alive, I guess? Woo?
Your favorite unlikely combination: Doritos and cream cheese.
Zombies? I like Zombie fiction with fast zombies, but only if the characters actually adapt and the plot doesn’t just lazily warp itself into a loophole.
Spearmint aww hehe thank you ^^ <3
as for the first piece of fiction/poem i wrote... i can't remember (i started in elementary school, i think?? and those Word drafts have been lost in the recesses of my computer?), but Sort-of Superpowered is one of my earliest projects on YWS... Synopsis: a couple of middle schoolers gain superpowers that aren't actually so super...(For example: a watered-down form of invisibility that just makes one a bit blurry around the edges (can be used creatively to freak people out and distract them =P))

Liminality Doritos and cream cheese sounds fun! I feel like the last 'fast zombie' thing I've seen was weirdly enough this otome game called Havenless? There was a whole bunch of other things going on with the plot + worldbuilding though, so the fast zombies only became relevant for quick-time events xD
Okay, now to answer your question: it was an unfinished novel (?) about two girls that enter and explore a magical world. I do not think there was a story goal here, I just wanted to make up imaginary plants xD This was probably written in my last year of kindergarten.
And @Spearmint I love that invisibility power!
