Balthier

"Well then, this akward I'm going to go catch up with Nick if you don't mind." I said.

I move along and run to catch up, but stay a couple unhearable steps behind him and Jackie. Mainly to listen in and see if his heart has changed at all towards her.

Rayah

I nod, agreeing, and look at Jace, "Can we go and sit on the beach?" I ask.

Jackie

I just shake my head and look at the floor as we walk, "Whatever. I just don't know how you would take it that way. I'm not the kind of girl to say something like that and you know it," I look back up at him.

Jace

I flash a smile and Rayah and nod, leading her there.

"That's the problem, Jackie," I say, "I don't know that. I don't know you. Yes, we talked today and I do know a little more than I did last night, but I don't know. What are we anyway? A make out session and hand holding doesn't necessarily make us a couple, if you know what I mean. What are we?"

I catch Balthier hanging around a good ten steps behind us but make nothing of it, waiting for Jackie's response.

That one kiss thing... There's a break to every curse, right? If...If this doesn't work, I can have what Jace has still, right? 'Cause there's no doubt of my option of escaping a life of misery. I just hope it doesn't come to that.

Rayah

We get to the beach and I smile, crossing my arms as it turns to sunset. "So pretty."

Jackie

I shrug, "I don't know anymore Nic. It's more like we're fighting then anything else. I don't even think you have feelings for me. I kissed you because you wanted me to," I tell him, stopping in my tracks.

Jace

We get to the beach and I become anxious, more aware of the weight in my jacket pocket than before.

Now is better than never, right?

"Uh...close your eyes, Ray," I whisper.

I stop when she does, studying her.

My feelings have nothing to do with the reason you kissed me...you know that.

"I had feelings for you," I say, "But I don't know now. There's too much doubt, confusion..."

I look down, taking a deep breath and praying this wouldn't come back to bite me in the a*s later on in life.

"I don't think this is such a good idea anymore," I say, shaking my head, "There's too much to figure out and it'll be a waste of time and effort if it doesn't work in the end...a waste of my curse."

I glance up at her, waiting for her response.

Rayah

He tells me to close my eyes so I do, taking a deep breath.

Jackie

A curse...?

I don't bother to ask, knowing there was nothing to happen, And sigh, "Fine. If you think I'm a waste of your time...then I agree. There's nothing between us and never will be. Bye," I turn in the opposite direction and see the other guy. Swallowing, I brush past him and make my way home the long way, crossing my arms as I do so.

Balthier

She brushes past me, not looking to happy. I look at Nick and see uncertainty doubt of what he would have had, maybe if only he confessed that he loved her then things would have turned out different. I walk over to him as he seemed on the verge of crying his eyes out, I was never good with emotional backlash. And I'm still not good with it, not fully sure which way to go, I feel consoling Nick would be the best idea. I put my hand on his shoulder and gave him a reassuring look.

Jace

Still holding her hand, I slip the velvet box out of my jacket pocket and drop silently to one knee. I take a deep breath and flash a smile before glancing back up at her.

"I freaking love you, Rayah, with every ounce of my being," I start, not telling her to open her eyes yet, "And that won't ever change. I need you, in more ways than one, and I pray you love and need me the same."

I pause, swallowing.

"Open your eyes," I whisper, "and tell me you'll marry me."

I watch her go, something twisting and dying off inside of me.

You were worth the time...don't doubt that, but there's no point in playing fantasy with myself. You don't deserve that.

I glance at Balthier, who has a hand on my shoulder, and realize I'm on the verge of tears. Wiping my face, I look down and shake my head at myself.

"Everything's so damn complicated," I mutter, "And I just made it ten times worse..."

Shaking my head again, I glance up and run a hand through my hair.

"She deserves the company more than I do," I look at Balthier, "Thanks, though. I...I need to go home. This is no place for someone like me."

Rayah

I open my eyes and swallow, a tear running down my cheek, "Yes," I manage to choke out, smiling, "A million times, yes!" I nod quickly.

Jackie

Dammit. Why can't I just be happy? Why can't I just be a regular person and live a week without being in a breakup?

I walk by the beach and see Jace on one knee, Rayah crying, and I swallow, looking away quickly before bringing the hood over my head and crossing my arms tighter around myself, trying not to cry as much as I really wanted to.

Balthier

"Nick." I said getting his attention.

I move in front of him and keep my hand on his shoulder and wait for him to look at me, I hold tight as to make sure he doesn't walk away from me.

"If your smart you'll run to her now, and tell her you love her." I said.

Jace

I smile and stand, wiping the tear from her face and kissing her. Hugging her, I slip the ring around her finger and kiss her once more.

Balthier moves in front of me, his hand still on my shoulder, and I look at him.

"If you're smart you'll run to her now, and tell her you love her," he says.

"I've known her for two days," I flash a smile, "She can't reciprocate those feelings. Even if I did...what would there be?"

Balthier

"Do you know how many "Two day love blossom lasting a good fifty years" my mom gets?" I ask him.

"No..." He says.

"Plenty, now get moving after her." I reply.

He starts slow but gets moving, Gray comes to my side looking at me as if I said the wildest thing.

"You made that up didn't you?" He asks.

"Yep." I reply.

Rayah

He kisses me, hugs me, and then kisses me again. I kiss him back and wrap my arms around his neck with a smile.

Jackie

I couldn't take it anymore, sitting down on one of the benches on the sidewalk and taking my head in my hands before I let everything out. Maybe I did like him. Maybe I did but just didn't know until now...

Jace

I smile back at her and tighten my grip around her, kissing her back.

Balthier practically shoves me in the direction Jackie went and tells me to go after her, to tell her how I feel. I walk, at first just for show, and then break into a sprint, my heart taking over. I find her crying with her head in her hands on one of the benches. Swallowing, I take the seat next to her and try to figure out how to word this.

"I love you," I whisper before I can stop myself, "And...God, I'm a freaking idiot for hurting you."

I hesitate before wrapping my fingers around her wrists and pulling her hands from her face so she can look at me.

"I'm sorry," I tell her, "Is there even a chance you can forgive me for...god, I forgot what I did again...uh... Let's just focus on the fact I love you. That sounds good."

Nice one. That's sure to make her jump right into your arms, Nic. Smooth.

I pull him down into the sand and take in the moment, not caring wether I get sand in my hair, and smile wider. Holy sh*t! Please say this is real!

He spills out on me and before he can say anything more, I kiss him, "I accept your apology," I flash a smile, "And I'm sorry too. And I Uh... Love you too."
