"Too long of a story." She rounded a corner and ran smack into the lackey's chest. His hands gripped her arms and she did the only thing she could think of, she stompped on his foot and kneed him in the groin.
She grabbed Tristian's hand and dragged him around another corner where she started climbing a fire excape.
I glanced at Anney, watching her carefully. It was strange how she affected me; she made me think about my happier moments, that all was not lost. And I was afraid of it.
"Why didn't you leave me?" I asked, hoping to get answers to my own confused feelings.
"Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery." Timothy 4:14 KJV
"It would have been completely unnatural for me to have left you," I replied, smiling lightly. Nick stared at me while I explained. "I am naturally a caring person - I care about people, regardelss of who they are, or how well I know them."
"All right..."
"Put simply, I enjoy helping people. But what about you, why are you actually letting me help?"
Once she caught her breath she said "Jackass vampire out to get me, Borrowed some money to save my mom, and then I worked it off for him and he wants to keep me now. I mean KEEP me, he wants to turn me."
She nodded in agreement, "no fun at all. I wouldn't mind being a vampire really, but not with James, I hate him. I don't want to be stuck with him for eternity."She sighed and closed her eyes, still trying to catch her breath. she fumbled in her pocket for her inhaler.
"Fair enough reasoning, I suppose," I said. I didn't point out how similar he was to Kris - it wasn't important.
You'll have to tell him eventually, A small voice at the back of my mind warned. I pushed the warning away, holding the door to the small restaurant (if you could call it that) open for Nick.
"Thanks," he muttered, moving toward a booth.
It doesn't matter - not yet, I told myself repeatedly in the silence before our waitress came.
"What can I do ya for?" she asked, smacking her gum as she spoke.
Tristan chewed his lip. "My parents used to be vampires, said they would've gone back to being like that if they didn't want to just live life." He smiled softly.
