I sighed as realization hit me. He was here to check on me, not talk to me.
Probably because Kai wouldn't.
I sat back down, hugging my knees. "I don't know..."
He moved closer to me, laying down next to me as he fixed that gaze on me. "It makes it easier to carry a burden if you talk about it. I am here to listen and council."
I nodded. "I think I'm falling in love with Kai, and I know he possibly feels the same way! But you saw what he did, you heard him! And...and he's right. Loving him would only complicate an already dangerous journey, make me stupid, maybe get me killed..."
"But it makes you feel awful."
"Yeah...especially knowing I have to...let go for now.
"And we lost everything we knew and loved - all of us! There's nothing for us to go back to! And...my last moments in the city, before the attack, were spent fighting with my father. I practically disowned him and told him I'd never see him again. Now, I don't know if he's alive or not. I'm afraid to find out."
I waited for Draco's response, whatever it would be.

"It is okay to be scared, Karana. This is a dangerous journey we are about to embark on. One would be a fool to say he is not afraid."
She nodded. "I know."
"But I also know Kai was hurt to see you in tears."
Karana looked up at the dragon.
"He did not want to say what he did, but he did it anyway because he cares about your safety more than his own happiness. He knew that once he took the Tenjin from its resting place that his life would never be the same. He made a vow to use its powers to protect the innocent. He is afraid, too, Karana. Afraid that if he let doubt cloud his mind it would cost him more than just his life, but yours as well, and that is something he cannot live with. Even after the short amount of time I have spent with him I know that he would like nothing more than to drop his sword and spend the rest of his life with you. His exact words were, 'I would rather be at her side than at her grave.'"
"Kai said that?" Karana asked.
Draco nodded. "He is fighting for a better future for all of us, because nobody else can. He has one of the most strongest of wills I have ever seen, and he will keep on fighting until that dream for a better future comes true, for all of us, for him, and for you. I know if he did confess his feelings to you it may cloud both your judgement during battle, but I also know there is no other person he would rather fight beside than you."

I stared at Draco. This couldn't be right. Kai felt so strongly about me? It was hard to believe! But...I did believe him.
I nodded, closing my eyes as tears threatened to fall again. He had touched me deeply, made me happy again.
"Thank you for telling me, Draco," I spoke calmly, struggling to keep my voice from breaking. "And let Kai know that I do understand, and that I will not let my feelings cloud my judgement. But I will not, by any means, leave his side or let him get hurt. I want him to survive, even if it means I have to save him myself. Will you tell him that, please?"
Draco nodded and hesitantly stood.
"I'll be okay. Really. And thank you. Without you, we'd be lost and hopeless. Thank you for everything."

Draco nodded. "I am here to help you all in any way I can, and it will stay that way for as long as I can make it." Karana got up and gave the dragon a hug around its long neck. After a few moments she pulled away. "You should go to sleep, you will need your strength for tomorrow."
Karana nodded and made her way back to the camp where Renian and Tyrant were. The dragon watched her as she disappeared into the forest. When she was gone he made his way back to where Kai was.
Kai was waiting for Draco to return. "Is she still upset?" he asked.
Draco shook his head. "She is happy again, and she wanted me to tell you that she does understand." The dragon relayed to Kai what Karana had asked him to say.
Kai smiled. "I'm glad, there's no other person I'd rather fight beside." He looked up at the moon that hung in the night sky. "I guess we should start heading back, too."

Renian sighed, keeping her eyes on the sky. "I'd probably not do anything. I probably stay in my house while it burnt to a crisp. Before I met you I had nothing to live for. No meaning." She smiled at him, realizing what she'd said and blushing deeply, looking quickly back at the sky. Smoothe move. Striker hissed in her mind. She thumped the cat, who was thankfully wrapped around her freezing feet, on the nose.
Tyrant looked at her. Did she really mean that, could she really feel the same way he did about her. "I probably would've tried to save people." He said softly looking at the ground. "And probably wouldn't've lasted long." He looked over at her again and smiled. "Why did you thump his nose?"
"Oh, he just said something rude," she smiled lightly, looking back at the small cat that glared at her as it rubbed it's nose with one paw. "Tyrant...can I ask you something before this whole journey thing truely starts tomorrow?" She blushed looking at the ground, catching him nod once out of the corner of her eye."How...do you feel about me?" She asked, her voice full of wonder.
Tyrant looked down at his hands and tried to think of something to say. "Well, your really cool." He blurted out. He mentally kicked himself. "Not just cool....I don't know how to say this, but- I" He took a deep breath. How was he supposed to tell her he liked her.
"What?" She asked in a barely aduilble whisper.
"I like I'm fallen for you." He blurted out standing up and walking to the edge of the woods running his hands through his hair.
Renian layed her ears flat and stood up, walking after him. "Tyrant!" She called as he sped up. She strode forward quickly, soon catching to his side. "I like you too," she smiled as he came to a direct stop.
Tyrant looked at her surprised. He slowly let his hand lift to her face and he looked down in her eyes. She was beautiful, just beautiful standing there. "C-Can I kiss you?" He asked softly. He didn't want to anger her or anything. He ran his thumb along her jawline and smiled down at her. He couldn't resist anymore. He wanted to know what it would be like to feel her soft lips against his. He slowly lowered his head towards her giving her plenty of time to pull away. To stop him,
Renian smiled lightly and closed her eyes, meeting his kiss. She smiled under the kiss and pulled away, smiling. "I really like you," she smiled, kissing him again. He was amazing..her first actual talking friend...and...her first and hopefully last, love. She pulled away and smiled. "How was that?" She smiled lightly, blushing.
Tyrant just stood there surprised for a little while. He looked down at her. "Nice." He smiled and kissed her again. "Come on, let's get back to the fire." He smiled leading her towards the fire. He was jumping inside. He felt amazing, having her close to him was like living in heaven, at least he figured it was. He had never been there so he wouldn't know. His wings itched and he pushed them out.
