I sat in the shadows, watching them in silence. At least they were happy, they had each other...

Stop it! You DO have Kai, but we have chosen to wait. That's the only difference.

I finally sighed and left the shadows, approaching the camp and sitting on the other side of the fire. They looked a little awkward at first.

"What?" I asked as obliviously as I could.

They relaxed at that and said, almost in unison. "Nothing."

I wanted to smile. But I didn't. I lay down on my bedroll and stared at the fire, eventually falling asleep.

(Okay, I think it's about time we moved the story over to the next day. And TN, I know this storybook may seem complicated, but don't give up on it. The real story hasn't even started yet, and our characters are going to get the chance to learn all sorts of magic spells. And unlike other storybooks, my system of casting magic allows you to mix and match incantations and create new spells. What other storybook allows you to experiment like that? If you're just confused about the story in general do what I do, take the time to read it over again. You might find it easier to understand the second time around. I'm basing this storybook off of a book I'm writing and let me tell you, you haven't see anything yet.)

They began their journey to Thunder Plains early the next morning. It took them a few days to walk through the forests of central Horagothien before they made it to the Plainlands. The Plainlands was a place in western Horagothien were few trees grew and grass flourished. It was like a greener version of a giant savannah.

They stopped once they made it out of the forest. "Why are we stopping?" Renian asked.

Kai and Draco turned to them. "Walking all over Horagothien will take too much time, and the nearest village is hundreds of miles away, so we can't buy horses even if we had the money," Kai explained.

"The quickest way to travel is in the air," Draco said. "Before we move on it would be best for all of you to learn how to fly."

"Fly?" Karana asked, there was a glimmer of excitement in her eyes.

Kai nodded. "It's actually easier than it looks." He forced his wings out of his back, jumped in the air and began hovering to demonstrate. "Because a Dragon Knight has four wings instead of just two, like a bird or a dragon, we can flap our wings simultaneously instead of at the same time. As you flap your upper wings you lift your lower ones, then you do the same except vice versa. That way, once one pair of wings stop moving the other pair is ready to flap. Although it may seem complicated at first it takes a lot less energy than flapping all four at the same time. The only time you should use all four at once is to lift yourself off the ground."

"Who would like to try first?" Draco asked.

Karana

I watched Kai, trying to understand exactly what he was saying. It looked hard, but if he said it wasn't, then it wasn't.

"I will," I forced my wings out of my back, which hurt for an instant, and then I used all four to pump myself off the ground. I rocketed past Kai, squealing in surprise. Too much energy!

Everyone laughed as I managed to slow down, but the stop was also a bit sudden, and I nearly plummeted. A few minutes passed in this manner, and I finally managed to hover.

"Oh, shut up..." I said playfully as Kai continued to chuckle. "Who's next?"

Is it too late to join? I've read all the liruature, now I'd like to partake. Although I'm not positive how I'll work myself in.

(I'm not sure either. If you're willing to wait, we may be able to bring you in when our characters get to another town, although I'm not sure how long it'll be till then.)

(Do you mind if I post a bio? It might give you an idea of how to work her in, and an oppurtunity to vito anything.)

Weapon(s): She's not really good with weopns, but she has minor healing skills.
Can use magic?: Yes, but she hasn't untill now.
Appearance: Ridicoulously long blond hair and big blue eyes. She's chubbier than your average elf, and quite short. She could easily pass for fully human.
Personality: Outwardly happy-go-lucky, even a little flirtatious, but secrety quite coniving and spitful.
History: Cassandra grew up in a small village outside the Thunder Plains, with her supposedly widowed father. Finding out she was a sragon knight should have been a happy time for her, but this was when her father told her about her true heratiage. She hates her elven side, and tries to deny that side of her, but she's too scared someone will hurt hewr for being impure to admit that she is a dragan knight, even though her father is of a an undiluted line.

Tyrant----

"I'll try it." He smiled letting his wings out. He flexed them once then pushed off into the air shooting up. He groaned and finally managed to get back a reasonable height. He worked at it for a while before he could finally use one set or the other like Kai had said. He pumped the air with his fist in victory forgetting to let his wings keep pumping and started falling. He caught himself before landing and smiled. "Once you get the hang of it it is easy." He confirmed trying to ignore his blunder.

Karana

I chuckled with Tyrant at his slip. He'd forgotten to keep his wings going in his triumph!

I looked at Renian. "Renian? You coming?"

Renian~

Renian gulped hard and shook her head tightly. "C'mon. It's easy." Tyrant reassured. Renian looked at them worridly and took in a sharp breath. She pulled her wings out and pumped her wings hard, pushing off with her feet. She smiled ecstatically as she lingered in the air. She felt herself slipping and fell, landing on her butt. She groaned and stood up, trying it again. This time she stayed in the air and smiled lightly, pumping her wings as she did so.

(I'll skip ahead so we can get to the Power Shrine of Thunder. It's been a while since anything interesting has happened. You know, fights and stuff. Leahweird, I hope you don't mind waiting. I can definitely bring you in once our characters reach the next town, but it's going to be after we finish in Thunder Plains. That's not a problem, is it?)

After an hour of practice they were all flying surprisingly well. Draco told them all, "You are all now ready to fly. I know you have not had much time to practice, but as you use your wings it will get easier. Now, we must continue our journey to Thunder Plains." They flew the rest of the way to Thunder Plains.


They arrived at their destination a mere two hours later. If they had been walking it would have took them a day to get there. They landed on a patch of grass. Before them was the entrance to the dead savannah. The vegetation stopped growing where Thunder Plains started. It was like a line to mark the border, one side was flourishing with grass, and the other was just dirt and rocks. Kai's group stood a few feet from that border.

Thunder Plains was nothing but dirt for miles and miles. A few spire mountains stood here and there in the distance. The whole area was shrouded in darkness from the thunder clouds, just as Kai had said. Every few seconds a lightning bolt would strike in the distance, making a bright flash followed by a loud crackle.

"Well, no sense in standing here," Renian said as she took a step forward.

Kai placed a firm hand on her shoulder. "Don't go any further."

"He's right," Tyrant said. "If you take one step into that place you'll get hit by lightning."

"Oh, come on," she said. "A lightning bolt isn't going to hit us on the edge of the border. We're so close right now we should have been hit already."

Kai bent down and grabbed a rock. "Observe," he said before throwing it onto the dirt.

It bounced once. Twice. *KABOOM!!!*

A lightning bolt blew the rock to pieces, creating a crater with a 3 yard radius in the process. Kai turned to Renian and asked, "Do you believe us now?"

Karana

I jumped at the sound and sight of the lightning striking. I drew back, hissing a curse as I sought safety next to Kai. Involuntarily, I grabbed his sleeve.

"Holy shit!" I trembled. "We're going in there? How? How do we get to the shrine through this?!"

**All I've got, sorry...**

Kai patted Karana's hand. "Relax, I have a plan." He took a few steps forward until his was standing directly in front of the line where the vegetation ended. He lifted his hands toward the clouds above and said, "Moss Mozadodo." He extended his arms outward and the clouds above followed, creating a safe path for them to traverse. He turned to the others and said, "There, now we have a safe path. As long as we're not under any clouds we'll be safe."

"That was pretty amazing, Kai," Renian said. "Wasn't it hard to move those clouds?"

"Clouds are pretty light, so the only trouble I had was actually controlling them because of how far away they are. Now, let's go."

"I am afraid this is where we part for now," Draco said. Everyone looked at the dragon.

"What do you mean?" Tyrant asked. "Aren't you supposed to be our guide?"

"My task is to guide Kai to each of the Power Shrines. Once he arrives at the shrines' environmental barriers, such as Fire Mountain and the raging lands of Thunder Plains, it is up to him to find the Power Shrine on his own. It is one of the many tests he must endure in order to restore the Tenjin's powers."

"It's true," Kai said. "I had to go to the bottom of Fire Mountain by myself. Draco just brought me to the volcano."
