Karana

I went to Renian to check on her, and was satisfied to see her unharmed. I then turned my gaze on Kai and the Draconic. It was a duel to the death; that much was certain.

Hang on, Kai. Please.

I then remembered an incantation: Oraza Amnotekkaro. Didn't the last word create a weapon from the specified element?

I tried it.

"Oraza Amnotekkaro!"

A sword rushed into my grasp, the blade enveloped with flame.

"Sweet!"

I rushed the enemy, still stunned by Kai's show of strength.

Kai squared off with the Draconic as he pulled himself out of the pile of rubble. Karana was soon at his side with a sword of pure fire in her hand. "I'm here to help," she said.

Kai nodded and turned back to the enemy who roared his frustration. As soon as the creature charged them they ran toward him, determined to strike him down at the same time before he could hit them. They lifted their weapons and readied to deliver the killing blow.

A thundering roar caused them all to stop in their tracks. They began to look around for the source of the sound and froze at the sight of a bright yellow dragon standing atop the shrine. "Stop this fighting before you all kill each other!" The dragon's voice was young, like that of a teenage boy no older than sixteen. For a moment Kai mistook the dragon to be Draco but noticed its body was smaller than Draco's and its scales a pure, electric yellow instead of gold. Although its body was small it was long and slim with a whip-like tail and a thin face. Its wings were also long and thin as if they weren't made for flying. Even though this creature was indeed a dragon it looked like a giant lizard more than anything else. Its body seemed built for quick movement on the ground rather than in the air.

The yellow dragon hopped off the shrine and landed beside the Draconic. "Take it easy, Renegade. I'll take it from here." The Draconic scoffed, turned his back and walked away. The dragon turned back to Kai and his group. "I'm sorry for how Renegade acted toward you all. It's been a few centuries since he's interacted with another sentient being other than myself."

Karana was unsure of what to think of this new dragon so she did the only thing she could think of. She raised her weapon and waited for it to make the first move.

"You don't need to feel threatened," the dragon said, "I mean you no harm."

Kai looked over his shoulder at Karana. "Relax."

If Kai thought this dragon was harmless then he was probably right. That's what Karana thought as she let the fiery sword in her hand fade away.

The dragon looked back to Kai and said, "I assume Draco was the one to send you all here?"

Karana's eyes widened. "You know Draco?"

The dragon smiled. "Of course, he's my brother!"

"So you must be the Earth Dragon of Thunder," Kai said.

The dragon bowed its head. "The name's Dynamo."

(Just so you know, even though they were all born at the same time the Earth Dragon of Thunder is considered the youngest among the Earth Dragons because of the way he acts. He acts and talks like a teenager and often likes to pull pranks.)

**Mmkay. Hehe, I like his name. Is it coincidence? lol**

Karana

I edged closer to Kai, curious about Dynamo and what he had to offer. I took note of his long, whip-like appearance, the golden hide, and the thin wings. Yes, those were definately traits of a creature of thunder.

"Did you know we were coming?" I asked.

God, I felt ridiculous. I had no idea what to say!

**Sorry...I'm still out of it from the concert AND I'm back to babysitting...ugh.**

The dragon grinned and did something with his shoulders that could only be described as a shrug. "I had no idea when, or even if, anyone was coming. I'm just glad I got back before Renegade ended up killing the people Draco set out to stop Valmorr."

"So you know about what the Earth Dragon of Darkness has been doing?" Kai asked.

Dynamo's voice was a little more serious when he said, "I've felt his energy spiking up and down for the past few years. A few weeks ago I felt his energy jump to its highest in eighteen centuries."

Kai and Karana looked at each other then. They knew what he was talking about. "Not too long ago the Earth Dragon of Darkness attacked and destroyed Kuri City, one of the largest cities in Horagothien."

"I suspected as much," Dynamo said. "I am curious as to why he would go so far as to destroy a whole human city, though. I know the thought of so much death and destruction excites him but he wouldn't do something that big without a good reason." He shook the thought away. "Enough about that. Anyway, I knew that one day Draco would find someone who could wield the Tenjin and would send him off to find all the Power Shrines. That's why Renegade and I have been guarding this shrine so no one but you would be able to absorb its energy."

"If you're supposed to be guarding it for Kai why did that Draconic attack him?" Tyrant asked.

The dragon lifted his foreleg and scratched his head. "Again, I'm sorry for that. Like I said, Renegade hasn't even spoken to another sentient being other than myself for the past few centuries. I guess he kinda forgot why we were guarding this shrine and decided to kill anyone who came close. But that isn't necessarily a bad thing. Many have come before you in search of the Power Shrine of Thunder, but none of them lasted as long as you all did against Renegade. The longest anyone had ever lasted in a fight with him was thirteen seconds."

I whistled. That was unbelievable! Thirteen seconds?

"So, he probably thought we were more imposters..." I reasoned. "It makes sense, now."

Dynamo nodded.

"But, enough about that," Dynamo said as he looked at Kai, "I'm sure you're eager to absorb the Power Shrine's energy and get out of this place. Once you take its power we can go see Draco and discuss our next course of action."

"You're coming with us?" Renian asked, surprised.

The dragon nodded. "Of course. We all assumed the day would come when Valmorr made another attempt to destroy the word, so the rest of the Earth Dragons, including me of course, agreed to work together to stop the crisis when it did."

"So this isn't the first time he's tried something like this?" Tyrant asked.

Dynamo gave him a condescending look. "He's the Earth Dragon of Darkness. What do you think?"

"Wait a minute," Karana said. "If you're coming with us, does that mean that Draconic is coming, too?" She pointed toward the Draconic named Renegade who was sitting on the steps of the shrine.

"Well, I can't just leave him here, can I?" He raised his claw before Karana spoke. "Don't worry, he won't hurt you. I'll explain the situation to him so he doesn't try to kill you all in your sleep."

"...That still doesn't sound very comforting," Tyrant said.

The dragon shook his head. "Geez, lighten up a little. I was just making a joke!" He turned back to Kai. "I'll talk to him while you absorb the Power Shrine's energy.

Kai nodded and followed Dynamo toward the shrine. They others started to follow but he Kai stopped them. "Wait here until I'm finish. When the seal is broken the energy that comes out is massive. It'll be safer if I just went." The others did what he said and waited. As Kai approached the steps he caught Renegade's eyes. The Draconic glared at him with an intensity that made him want to look away, but he didn't. Kai stared back at him until he started his way up the shrine.

At the top of the shrine was a glass like statue of a bright yellow dragon. It was a long serpentine dragon with a thin body curled around itself like a small snake. Its wings were long and thin and its horns were the shape of giant thunderbolts. Large sparks of electricity jumped off of the statue in all directions. The Dragonese symbol of Thunder appeared on the statue’s back, between the wings. The symbol was made of pure electrical energy.

Kai lifted the Tenjin over his head and jammed it into the statue with all his might. There was a pause of complete silence as everyone held their breath before large, violent bolts of electricity began shooting out of the statue in all directions. Power roared out of the statue and around Kai's body that sent small shocks up and down his spine. As he struggled to hold on, he heard loud crashes around the shrine itself. An electrified cloud had appeared over the the shrine itself and was shooting out bolts of lightning. The bolts continuously slammed into the earth all around the Power Shrine.

Soon the raging electricity began to die down until it stopped completely when the Tenjin absorbed all the power from the shrine. The lightning coming from the small cloud over the shrine stopped as well. The color of the dragon statue faded from a glassy electric yellow to a dull rocky gray. The Dragonese symbol of Thunder disappeared, then the statue crumbled away around the Tenjin, revealing a its blade as it glowed with an electric yellow aura. A few small sparks of electricity jumped off of the sword here and there. After a few moments, the Tenjin’s yellow glow disappeared and its blade changed back to its normal color.

I drew away from the power, terrified by it. Anything that powerful was worth being feared. Yet, it also offered comfort: this strength would aid us in our journey.

Kai finally faced us, returning the Tenjin to its sheathe. "Ready to go?"

The others nodded, indicating that they too were eager to get out of this place. Dynamo walked over with Renegade a few minutes later. "Kai?" Dynamo said, "I believe Renegade has something he wants to say."

Renegade sighed and said, "I apologize if I harmed any of you in any way." The apology didn't quite reach his voice but Kai assumed he wasn't used to saying sorry so he let it slide.

Kai smiled and held out his hand. "Apology accepted, we're happy to have you on the team."

Renegade hesitated for a moment, looking from Kai's hand back to his face. He finally nodded and took Kai's hand with his own dragon hand and shook.

"So, where's our next destination?" Tyrant asked.

"Well, our next course of action is obviously to meet back up with Draco," Dynamo said. "But after that we'll be going north to Desert of Snow."

"Desert of snow? I don't think I've ever heard of that place," Karana said.

Kai told her, "It's a tundra near the north-western coast of Horagothien."

"But why is it called Desert of Snow?" Renian asked.

Kai continued, "Because the place is one giant snowstorm. The storm has been raging for so long that the earth is buried more than a hundred miles under the snow. In a way, Desert of Snow is just like Thunder Plains except with snow."

"More than a hundred miles?" Karana asked, astonished.

"That certainly is a lot of snow," Renian agreed. "We'll have to find some place where we can buy warm enough clothes to travel in such harsh conditions."

"Let's get back to Draco first," Kai said, "then we can start mapping out our route." They all left the cavern together. Without the soft crackle of energy from the Power Shrine the cavern seemed emptier than it had been when they arrived.

What they saw when they got out of the cave astonished them. The thunder clouds that had blanketed the entire region in an eternal twilight storm had disappeared. For the first time in thousands of years the sun bathed the dead savanna with its warm rays.

~Cassandra~

She was sleeping peacefully when the bandits attacked. When her father first woke her, she was confused with sleep.

"Go away!" She told him, trying to sink back under the covers, but he kept shaking her.

"Cassie, wake up! There's people attacking the town, and they have guns!"

She sat up. Attacking the town? They had never had any trouble like this before. They barely had any guards! Her father rushed her to the door. He knew the villains would probably strike their neighborhood; it was the wealthiest in town.

"I'm still in my nightgown!"

"There's no time!"

They ran out into the street. The servants had already left. At least they had had the decency to warn them first. Other families were also running. The streets where clogged with people.

"This way," He told her and led her though the back alleys.

He must have thought that would be quicker, but neither of them knew that part of the town very well. It took them far longer than it should have to get away from the house. Luck was with them though; they could see the edge of the settlement when the shot rang out.

“Papa!” She cried as he fell beside her.

She was not stupid. She knew she had to get way, but men grabbed her from behind.

“What have we here?” said one.

“A pretty bird?” answered a second.

“Maybe she’ll sing for us.” Spoke a third, pressing the barrel of a gun to her temple.

They bantered for a little while, deciding what they would do to her. None of the options were pleasant. She knew she had to do something drastic to escape. The moment the gun at her head relaxed even a little, she released her wings. They tore the fabric of her nightgown and flew in the faces of her captors.

The gun went off as the bandits swore. The bullet grazed her arm. She stumbled when it hit her, but she kept running. She would not stop until the town and this night was far behind her.

**Hmm...let me see...what can I write?**

Karana

It was after dusk when we arrived at the nearest town. Our group moved slowly, quietly, as if we had never been so tired after the events of the day. I kept close to Kai while Renian and Tyrant whispered behind us, the dragons following them.

I sighed as I stared at the sky. Something was wrong...I could feel it. Then I heard it; a gun went off as men yelled.

I bolted toward the sound, unleashing my wings in my rush. A powerful pump of them gave me the speed boost I needed; I almost lifted off in my sprint. I could hear Kai and the others behind me, calling to me...

"Ack!" I squealed as I collided with another Dragon Knight, her wings flapping frantically, blood on her arm. She was pale; from fear and pain?

"Keep them away!" she cried out, hiding behind me.

"What?" But my question was answered in the next instant. Men appeared in front of us, guns ready. They eyed us, and I stood as tall as I could, wings outstretched to their fullest.

The bandits faltered for a moment, startled by Karana's long outstretched wings, but it was outlived as they rose their weapons at her and prepared to fire.

"Zuu Kkumnuss!" Kai had erected a barrier around Karana and the newcomer, and not a moment too soon. Half a second later the bandits' guns went off and the bullets bounced off the surface of the magical blue dome.

Kai and the others were about to run into action and fight the bandits, but Renegade rushed past them and got to them first. He grabbed the closest enemy as they fumbled with their weapons trying to reload them. He held onto the bandit's shoulder with his human arm, reeled his dragon arm backward and punched the human in the face. The bandit was dead in an instant, his neck made an unpleasant crack as his head bent more than 90 degrees backward.

Renegade let the dead man fall to the ground in a limp heap and faced the rest of the bandits. He let out a frightful roar that tore screams from the enemies' throats. They turned tail and ran as fast as they could, one of them dropped his gun as he fled.

Kai came up to Karana and asked, "Are you okay?"

She nodded. "Yeah, I'm fine."

"Don't scare me like that, Karana." He looked down at the frightened Dragon Knight child that hid behind Karana. "It's okay, they're gone now."

Karana

I smiled at him. He had forgotten about our agreement, to not let emotions or affections interfer, yet here he stood, pale and wide-eyed in fright for my safety. I even noticed how he sighed - quite secretively - once he learned that I was fine.

I knelt beside him, beside the girl, pulling my wings back in. She stared about our group, shaking in what must have been fear as tears pooled in her eyes.

"It's okay," I spoke softly, pulling a small cloth out of one of my pockets. Maybe she would let me tend to her wound. "You're safe now."

"And they won't be coming back," Kai added.

The girl seemed to consider us for a moment, but finally nodded.

Now that she wasn't in desperate fear for her life. Cassandra could take a good look at her rescuers. They were a motly band. Only one seemed entirly human. She stared at the golden dragon bringing up the rea.

"I know you," she breathed, although she didn't really. Not that she could remember.

The sight of the dragons wings made her remember her own. She snapped them closed fearfully. IT was too late though. They had already seen her wings. se just hoped she'd be able to get away when they sdtarted to ask about them.

"What's your name?" Karana asked the girl.

"Cassandra," she answered. It was then she finally noticed Kai's wolf ears and tail. She edged away from him. "A-Are you a demon? Please, don't hurt me."

Kai smiled and said, "None of us are going to hurt you, you have nothing to fear." Everyone introduced themselves, except Renegade so Kai had to introduce the Draconic himself. "It's surprising to see another Dragon Knight alone out here."

"Another?" Cassandra asked, a little confused. "You mean, you're all...?"

Karana nodded. "Yes, we're all Dragon Knights. We're on a quest to restore the powers of an old sword and stop an upcoming disaster."

Cassandra's heart filled with hope at that moment. With the exception of the Draconic, these people didn't look like bad guys. If they were travelling together on a quest it must mean they're a band of heros. She knew just how strong a single Dragon Knight was from the stories her father used to tell her. If there were five of them plus two dragons...

Cassandra grabbed onto Kai's sleeve and began to beg. "Please, you have to help me! My village was attacked by a band of bandits not too long ago. They carry strange weapons called guns that can kill a man from a distance with just one hit!"

Tyrant had picked up one of the guns they bandits left behind. "I've heard of guns before. Japan, the country Horagothien is at war with, uses them in their army. How a bunch of bandits got a hold of them I have no idea..."

"As far as I know I'm the only one who escaped. Please, you have to help my village!"

"This is just a waste of time," Renegade said. "We should leave the humans alone and get to the next shrine as soon as possible."

Kai ignored Renegade's comment and said, "Don't worry, we'll drive the bandits out of your village, Cassandra."

"Kai, we don't have time for this," Renegade said.

Kai looked over his shoulder at the Draconic. "No one's forcing you to do anything, Renegade. If you don't want to help then you can wait for us to return."
