Strikes me as a novel about teenagers, for some reason. I'd look at the synopsis before I made my choice.
The Nothing Remarkables
"2-4-6-8! I like to delegate!" -Meshugenah "Teague: Stomping on your dreams since 1992." -Sachiko "So I'm looking at FLT and am reminded of a sandwich." -Jabber
Kind of a YA read, I think. I can't really place it anywhere - teenagers with super powers, maybe? Or perhaps a whole family of them? (It reminds of some film that was in the theateres, but I don't reember the title).
Hmmm....well, I'm reading a book right now where the Marietta is the name of a pirate ship, so of course that was my first thought, but other than that....I get this mental image of an evil-stepmother type with curly, greasy black hair, hornrimmed glasses, and a naval evil laugh. I probably wouldn't pick it up, unless the cover surprised me.
In Thrall
"In a sort of ghastly simplicity we remove the organ and demand the function...We laugh at honour and are shocked to find traitors in our midst. We castrate and bid the geldings be fruitful." ~C.S. Lewis
"...are closer than they appear." Intention? That's what I see. I'd say it's about someone driving down the road and commits a hit and run, and then they start seeing the ghost of their victim over and over again in the side mirrors as they are driving...each time they see the victim he/she is getting closer and closer. Close?
Sounds a bit like a murder or investigation story where you follow the detective or police officer who gets dragged into it all and ends up running form his/her life.
Fallen Angel
Before you judge someone, walk a mile in their shoes... Then who cares? You're a mile away and you've got their shoes.
It is cliché but I know someone else with that title, and it worked. But even so, it's too common of a phrase, get unique with it--Why not falling something else? Or why does the Angel have to fall? Why can't they dive?
Death Machine
“It's necessary to have wished for death in order to know how good it is to live.” ― Alexandre Dumas, The Count of Monte Cristo
My first thought is science-fiction, and as I don't really like the genre, I don't think I would pick it up if the cover art didn't interest me. However, I was recently in the cinema with my class to see a war film (Katyn, - Andrzej Wajda (Andrew Wajda?!)). Anyway, it's a really sad film about the Katyn tragedy that took place during WWII, when they Soviets murderdered Polish officers, and 'Death Machine' kind of makes me think about a tragedy like that. As in, the 'machine' is either a person who gives out orders that people be executed, or does it him/herself. Or it's, again, a war, during which the device is presented, or it's perhaps a country/army.
Sounds like some sort of romance story. I don't see how real ice would fit in the title, so I'd guess ice is someone's name. I think of a simple girl; maybe a farmer or a beggar, convincing this older, more secluded, emotionless boy( hence the name Ice) to care for people. He wouldn't care about others because his father was cruel to him as a child. But, over time, the girl falls in love with this guy. I know it sounds strange, but romance isn't my thing.
Sky Shard
"Son, what do you want to be when you grow up?"
"A felon!"
"Are you sure?"
"Yah! This kid at school says they get all the girls!"
"I should try that..."
It strikes me as fantasy, and my brain stops there. I'm not a huge fantasy fan and I wouldn't pick it up. Sorry.
Ahoy Insanity
"2-4-6-8! I like to delegate!" -Meshugenah "Teague: Stomping on your dreams since 1992." -Sachiko "So I'm looking at FLT and am reminded of a sandwich." -Jabber
Because of the 'Ahoy' in the title, it struck me as a pirate fantasy kind of thing. "Insanity", though, doesn't really fit the picture. That's one weird combination of words you have there, because whatever genre/plot I think of when reading the two, one automatically disqualifies the second, Huh.
I still think, though, that it;s some kind of fantasy. (And yes, I think everything is fantasy these days). Urban, contemporary, perhaps, set in the modern world. Maybe in a busy city, about a group of teenagers? No, but really, this title is quite a mystery to me.
I'm guessing it's either about a guy named Michael who needs to be saved by others or helping someone named Michael. I'd read it just because my name is Michael.
The first thing I think of are the borg from Star Trek. It doesn't really ring for me, it's sort of awkward sounding. My guess would be that it is about a death in the family.
Seska's Sight
Jennafina's Love Your Body Already Dammit Campaign
A little blind girl who has 'visions' of people who are going to die soon, so she must employ the help of an older, seeing man to save these people. I might pick it up.
