Okay, you know what? You two (@15253, @Verser) are really pushing it. I'm going to back out of this argument on the sole grounds that if I continue, I'm probably going to start swearing a blue streak and turn the argument into a flame war.

I'm done. I'm going to spend some time elsewhere for a change, and write to my heart's content. Keep up the argument if you want. I'm just going to keep my big, stupid mouth shut and pretend this never happened.

Im sorry if I'm coming off as condescending, It's just the way I write, I have a certain amount of vehemence for stuff and I know that isn't cool. I'll stop if you want me to.

@15253 Yes, the storyline. ..."but only just"? Why? It's not just a bunch of added characters in the story. You take part in the usual good old 8 badges + League in a brand new region, but that also means that the region you explore has its own legend and myths. And you KNOW that they'll have an impact on the game itself, since said myths are usually legendaries that you capture. But for the very first time, an Enemy Team leader actually SUCCEEDS in capturing AND taming the Legendary, AND becomes the League Master. He's not your average "I wanna conquer the world" guy, he actually wants to prove what could be a valid point. The feeling and mood of the fight is therefore much different.
And then, after the fight, Ghetis randomly shows up, explaining that 1: N was a mere puppet, which completely destroys the nobility of N's goals and powers (since he kept saying that he was king and all that); 2: restores the usual "I wanna conquer the world" gimmick, except this time you didn't see it coming because the game isn't about that at all. Basically Ghetis shows you how low he is compared to his son, and the most hateful part about this is that he's actually stronger than N and his philosophical goals.
His speech is pretty much there to make you understand that (we didn't even know if he could fight or not, anyway), but apparently you only care about defeating everyone when playing Pokémon. So yeah, no point in continuing there. The side-legends, the lesser legendary creatures, the myths of Unova, the Human vs Pokemon war mentioned, the Twins and their dragon, the mystery around Kyurem, all of those things are there to create a certain sense of wonder. Y'know, to make a world with more depth. But I guess you really don't care about that. Oh well.

...!! Wha... But the game does everything to make you care about both Ghetis and N! N because he has the value of a rival and is the only Enemy Team Leader who goes as far as he did, and Ghetis because of the reasons I've explained up there. Their lines, what they say is EXACTLY what is there to make you relate to them. If you skip them, YOU are the one making them nothing more than enemies to defeat. Don't blame the game for that, because yes they totally did efforts to make their world stand. You just didn't seem to care about that.

Pokémon can be interpreted that way since the first freakin' game. And that's already been done by kids and teens alike. For example, the first big twist (Pokemon Red, Blue and Yellow): why is Giovanni the last Gym Leader? When you're a kid playin' it, the first reaction you can have is to think that it's not... right. He's the perfect example to show you that Good/Evil isn't always so black and white. You can be evil, but if you have enough power and wit, you can be at the top. No problem. That's kinda scary. So youc an level up your Pokemon team to beat evil's butt, but... He can do it too and get away with it? Wha? How's that fair?
Basically it's as shocking as if you'd been fighting against Bowser in a Mario Game and he suddenly appears to be Peach's personal and most loyal bodyguard, but she doesn't know what he does outside of her castle.

As for the Klefki bit, I know that, thank you. But you know, you don't need to go that far. There's Hitmonchan. He's a Pokemon... That has boxing gloves. Or there's Muk. Toxic drops with eyeballs and a mouth. Both of them are first gen.

@Verser You can totally play a game, appreciate the beatin' up part but also appreciate the deeper meanings you can find in said game. A video game is a ludic experience in every aspect..
That and it's not a platform game Mario-style (AKA simple goal + gameplay), it's a Role Playing Game. AKA an interactive story in which you make the choices. So, it's story. And you can learn stuff from any story. Look at Pokemon Mystery Dungeon. One of Grovyle's line is:
"The important thing is not how long you live... its what you accomplish with your life." <--- Was that put here as a cheesy come back line? Especially in the context in which it's used? But you can also enjoy the Primal Dialga fight that's comin' after it. I did both. And I'm perfectly fine.
You can totally interpret it and think about it. The whole idea of what's truth, what's ideal and how can you harmonize them in Black and White is also pretty interesting.

So... Yeah. You can enjoy the game, but you can enjoy the story. You guys don't care about the story at all, so, no point in continuing.

@Verser All RPGs with a good storyline do. You just need to try and find the little hints that show it.
Like, again, why is Giovanni (mafia boss = Evil) the last Gym Leader (Gym leaders = representation of Just power in the game = Good)

I can see your point but its totally cliché. Theirs no real meaning in that other than corruption among higher powers.

its just been said soooo maaaany timeeees. We've been beaten over the head with that motto again and again and again in books, movies, and now videogames.

@Verser Corruption between higher power. Exactly. But the idea of corruption is not necessarily something that you'd think about as a kid. And this introduces it to you already. Usually you're enclined to think that everything's Good opposed to Evil, and now you see that both can be mingled. That's already deeper that expected from a video game at the time.
Keywords: AT THE TIME. When you're a kid playing Pokemon, you don't necessarily read books or watch/fully understand the meaning of movies. Or you can just appreciate the way it was implemented in the game, since it's kinda unexpected.

And I'm here. I like the Pokémon games. They're fun for me. I especially like finding my couple of new favorites among the crowd of those that I don't like.

And I enjoy the nice, simple stories that become incredibly deep if you dissect them.

@Robusto Pretty much what I said. You can totally enjoy both aspects. It's kinda fun to do so, actually. But d'you have an actual favorite among the Pokémon games?
