Hello, nykolasandrews, Pineapple here for a short review.
First off, I hope you are having a lovely day. Secondly, I absolutely loved reading this poem. It was short, and simple but held a deep meaning. This poem was relatable and left the reader feeling a sort of familiarity.
I liked the second stanza with the line "I can't live in a belief that this isn't my fault". Sometimes when a person is so used to self-sabotage, it is hard to grasp the fact that, this time, they did not mess things up. That was my favorite line.
Overall, great job and please do keep up the great work!
Signed,
Pineapple
Hello nykolasandrews, I hope this finds you well.
"I saw it coming,
and I still feel like,
some is carving into my skin.
But no one else needs to do that,
I've got it covered,
this time."
Between drawing on your skin, writing down your thoughts, pushing your body to its limits, everyone has a form of self-harm in the making. Sometimes its productive, othertimes you bleed your pain out. Not to say that drawing on yourself, or writing, or exercise is bad, no not at all, but its away to make you ooze your pain out. Sadly others don't feel like they have these options, they don't wish for the safe path, they wish to be torn, carved, bled-out. They want to be tortured so they can scream for help louder. Torture feels better when it comes from our hands, when we are in control, but it also hurts the worse. We are our best enemy, we know the in-and-outs of our skin, the thread that unravels our being, the best places to punch over and over again to make our skin a rainbow of colors.
"I can't live in a belief that this isn't my fault,
I don't trust myself,
I did something.
I always do."
Trust is hard earned, spend years to get it, obtain it, and spend a mere second to watch it catch fire and disappear. What worth is it? What makes it so heartwarming? Sometimes the cold teaches lessons the fire never could, and self-blame is the blanket that we wrap on our shoulders in an attempt to stop the teaching.
"I scream your name in my sleep,
my voice muffled by tears,
when will this end."
"I'm sorry for doing this to you,
I'm sorry I'm falling for you,
I'm sorry I'm causing you so much pain."
At some point, one will wonder when apologies will lose their meaning, when forgiveness will no longer make us feel better. We wonder when it will be best to leave, to apologize for everyones pain but our own. We could never acknowledge that, nobody needs to know we hurt, our hurt isn't enough. Instead we say sorry for everything we see, we absorb it like a sponge to water, and by ourself we expel it in the tears we give to our pillows.
"I dreamt about you last night,
I almost glanced you over,
Now I wish I had."
Hind sight is 20/20 as they say. One can mull it over and over, spend every second and evey breath wondering what could have been different, and the one thing that always comes to minds first is; what if I hadn't? What if I hadn't said good morning or goodbye? What if I had never even seen you. Somedays, we wish we did.
This was a lovely read. Grammatically I would suggest capitalizing your "I"'s, and maybe adding punctuation. Although I do love the sort of rustic look to the lack of it all. Either way food for thought.
Keep creating beautiful art, and dance in the rain when things seem hard.
It’s hard when you feel as if you made a mistake.Like you caused someone hurt and pain. You will feel like it is your fault. It’s not.Things happen sometimes. All we can ever do is focus on the good things, the bright side. But I liked how this poem was written. It was broken into parts nicely.I hope that you have a lovely and cool day and night.
