You're beautiful
When you smile skeptically
At that statement I just made.
I love, for some reason, those lips
That make me feel ridiculous.
So savage is my plain gratitude
Rising from my guts like
Small ferns grow through wet dirt
White teeth behind a tiger's taut smirk
At the strange gazelle who longs
For them to go to work.
Rip into me with laughing bites
So I fill you up as I long
For you to fill me.
All of this, privately, painfully,
While I only smile back, mildly.
I act the fool and make smoke ghosts
Of hot air in cold wind.
My firey innards burst forth their
Embered heat and it's only
Cold sarcasm that they meet.
But, invisible to both their owners
They dance, and make
A small twister
That turns on the table between them.
Working to pull them both in closer
And bridge the gap between breaths
Hot and cold,
Turbulent and torrid twisting
Tornadoes, cyclones,
Hurricanes could we be
If you saw more than just a joke
In me.

Howdy hey! Gengar (or Sonorous) here to leave a review!
To me, this poem is about someone who is in love with someone else, but their love is unrequited. This can be seen in lines such as “hurricanes could we be / if you saw more than just a joke / in me”
I liked the strong imagery and metaphors in this poem. It really sells the point and shows the speaker’s emotions.
I think you could improve on some of the line separation. Sometimes i feel like it breaks the flow of the poem, such as this:

Your poem is a captivating dance of words and drew me into a realm of emotion and desire. It skillfully conveys a complex blend of feelings – from admiration to vulnerability – through vivid imagery and eloquent expression.
The opening lines are immediately engaging with a touch of humor and sincerity. The acknowledgment of the skepticism behind the compliment adds a relatable layer of authenticity. The contrast between skepticism and genuine emotion sets the tone for the poem's exploration of mixed emotions.
The imagery of "lips that make me feel ridiculous" is both evocative and playful. It captures the power of attraction while acknowledging the feelings of vulnerability that often accompany it. The comparison of gratitude rising like "small ferns grow through wet dirt" is a beautiful metaphor for the growth of emotions against the odds.
The description of "white teeth behind a tiger's taut smirk" adds a layer of intensity to the emotions. It portrays a sense of allure and danger, showcasing the depth of their longing for the subject of the poem.
The poem's intensity grows as it delves into the speaker's desires. The imagery of "Rip into me with laughing bites" takes a bold turn, conveying a yearning for connection and intimacy. The desire to be filled emotionally and physically is expressed with fervor.
The internal conflict of private emotions versus outward demeanor is a powerful theme in the poem. The juxtaposition of the hidden intensity and the mild exterior creates a poignant contrast. The lines "While I only smile back, mildly" encapsulate this dichotomy perfectly.
The poem beautifully portrays the speaker's vulnerability. The comparison of "smoke ghosts of hot air in cold wind" suggests fleeting, intangible attempts to express feelings that remain misunderstood or unacknowledged.
The turning point of the poem lies in the concept of invisible, dancing emotions. The idea of emotions twirling like a "small twister" between two individuals creates a vivid visual metaphor. It captures the delicate dance of connection and longing, attempting to bridge the gap between them.
The closing lines echo the yearning for deeper understanding. The contemplating of the possibility of being seen beyond mere appearances hints at the potential for a profound bond.
Overall, your poem is a beautifully woven tapestry of emotions and desires. It captivates with its imagery, sincerity, and depth of feeling. The interplay between vulnerability and hidden intensity makes it relatable and engaging. Your skillful use of metaphor and imagery paints a vivid picture of the complex emotions at play. This poem is a heartfelt expression of longing and connection, leaving a lasting impression on the reader.

Wow, your review was a complete and accurate analysis of that relationship and my emotions. I write as a therapy to work through them but those who read them exactly as I meant are the therapists. Thanks
You're welcome
