To Own A Cat

In Poetry

To own a cat
is to resign yourself to the idea that you
are inferior
because your cat owns you.

To own a cat
is to have sleepless nights
with a kitten yowling by your ear
hungry for attention and play.

To own a cat
is to brave the litterbox
holding your breath while you scoop
while your cat watches you with laughter in their eyes.

To own a cat
is to feel the pain of needle claws
kneading your leg
in a violent display of love.

To own a cat
is to become a parent
putting your hands on your hips and frowning
when you find it curled up in a pile of toilet paper.

To own a cat
is to experience the best joy of human life
knowing that you have a bond that none can break
knowing that you are tied for eternity.

Hey! herby here for a review!
I LOVE THIS POEM!!!!! It is so relatable, right? I own a cat, we don't really know how old she is because she was a barn cat, but she does, like all of these things!
Okay, moving on... There are other things about this poem I like, you know. For example, the way this is written is fantastic. The repetition of the title gives a great poetic element. I also really like some of the imagery you use, for example, line four of stanza four.
This is just such a great poem, and I saw absolutely no mistakes.
Thanks for the great read,

Hello there kingofeli! I am Niraco and I hope you’re having a very awesome review day today!

I own a four dogs (seven in my lifetime), so as you can guess cats aren’t really my thing. However, this is actually how I view cats and in fact this is how most owners of domesticated animals can actually feel - mostly anyway.

The parts I couldn’t relate to were regarding cats and their egos. I always seem to hear about cats and how they seem to own their owners - almost as if they’re just staff. It’s actually very funny - especially for a dog owner like myself.

The part I could relate to was very touching.

To own a cat/is to experience the best joy of human life/knowing that you have a bond that none can break/knowing that you are tied for eternity.

Every pet owner feels like this. A pet is part of you, it’s your family, your best friend and at times your enemy all wrapped up in one cute furry bundle.

All in all, I liked this poem very much, even if it was about cats. :L

Hello!
Augustus here for review!
The poem was lovely. You know best thing about the poem was the way you kept it simple plus it was very much realistic and yay! it was soooo much relatable you know. I never had a cat as a pet but I used to have a squirrel as my pet and I could truly appreciate that you were right in saying that:

"To own a cat
is to become a parent"

So this is what I think about your poem. I can't do nitpicking cause I am bad at that side and I personally felt that it is beautiful the way it is!
I would love to hear more from you!
Goodbye and Good luck.

Hello!
As I cat owner myself, I can totally relate to this. You really got the idea of cats down, haha! Even if they can be little devils sometimes, they're still part of the family ;)
I found this poem creative, adorable, and sweet. Even if it wasn't super long or super short, it got right to the point.
There aren't any mistakes that I can see. I thought the overall idea was pretty awesome because I'm sure a lot of people can relate to this! Very well done.
Keep up the good work! I look forward to reading more of your writing!

Hi! Let me just say that I LOVED this! I own a cat and everything that I go through with my Kairi is here. I like how you stayed consistent with your lines. It reads very well, the only thing I can think of to improve it would be to add commas after the third line in the first, second, and sixth stanzas. It would help the ideas flow better with the correct punctuation. I am very glad I read this. It made me smile. I hope to read more from you in the future. Have a great day!
