  1. January makes you a fucking disaster like the roar that shakes the
trees and bangs alongside the houses, amidst the storm. She whispers
in your ear, “just because we found love does not mean love
will stay” as you find yourself settled inside her.
January has your mother’s eyes; blue and crystal without the
intentions to match. Pretty is petty and you will never forget.

  1. February is hot
to the touch; sizzlin’ like grease lurking to leave its mark
on your skin, like Icarus into the sun. She is your breath in the
cold when you can no longer feel. Her lips traced with an invite to
her bedroom. Her imprint lies in the sheets, waiting to feel in
place momentarily again. February wears red lace lingerie under her
clothes to club and is never the prey. You sweat over her because
she tells you to call with no intentions to ever answer knowing
you’ll wait, and wait, and wait. February can’t keep her
    	promises.

  1. March is
everything pure, a virgin when we first met. She brings you home to
her family the second time you meet and lets her sister tell you
stories about pointless shit. Her innocence intrigues you after you
took her to church and watched her worship on her knees in those
times she believes god isn’t looking. You tuck her in and
watch her sleep as you climb out her window. Not the usual type, she
volunteers for charity, and not the usual kind girls did in high
school. She sits in the back but still gets straight As. She asks to
hold your hand in through the halls, and knows to let go and fiddle
with her chastity ring when you see those other girls. She doesn’t
bite her tongue, no, the words never get that far. A week passes and
you can’t even fucking remember her name.

  1. April loves
like a ghost. Haunts you when you have nowhere to run. “I
could love you but that’d be a waste of time.” April
gets her hands dirty with nothing but a pile of bones. “Where
do you think you’re going?” she says with a smirk. She’s
not the type to bring home. Always hungry, kisses with her teeth.

  1. May was more
beautiful before you picked her. Confrontations rush into hot, and
steamy but only temporary solutions. Her mouth is the orange juice
to your toothpaste kisses. Mama always said to love full heartedly
or not at all but something about her kept your heart open for
monthly visits. Messy sheets, you found out, really are short and
    	sweet.

  1. June is a
thrift shop. Like spare pennies. All this old furniture spells your
name. June takes you to a pool in the summer to skinny dip in. Her
fingers drip love too bold to stay bodily. Trails of Jack in
tarnished coat holes, twirling in the depth of old records and lost
dreams in last generations. She draws her hand, a one of a kind of
course. You check your deck but her hand is moving down your thigh
and suddenly the kings and queens held no value. Her heart is dusty
so your chamber is in the attic. Tongues only speak the same
language when they intertwine but you forgot when her smile tried to
    	join the small talk.

  1. July won’t
keep your hands out of her mouth. You get her drunk to open her up.
She disappears late at night to leave you to wake up alone but she
leaves a glass of water and some aspirin on her way out. That’s
all you can ask for in a generation like this. July always lies with
a new face every time. She can’t remember the last color her
hair was as she dyes a new identity in a gas station bathroom. She
tells you to tattoo her name on your wrist and you say you’ll
show her next week. July is reeling, only loves with a pile of
    	bones.

  1. August indulges
in spoiled reads. She is a poem without a happy ending because those
are the best kind. You lay under the cotton candy clouds and wake up
more tired than before. Her type of beauty is exhausting; she avoids
mirrors because your eyes are more than enough. Under her bed in an
old shoe box is her deepest desires like kissing your bruised
knuckles, and filling the space between your ribs. In a universe of
words, you could only trace her hands until they settled inside
themselves. August is a rose, but roses still have thorns.

  1. September
always says, “Baby come home” with her hands tangled in
your hair. She is a house that you have to take your shoes off at
the front door, endure side conversations with her mother. Sits with
her legs crossed and her chin propped high. Calls you every night to
tell you horror stories about LA before she moved. Her voice keeps
you up with comfort. Says she loves you during her first prom.
September is impressionable, she’ll learn from this more than
    	you.

  1. October is
lazy, hides in your sweaters like bed sheets and won’t wash
the dishes. October heals your wounds left from February and keeps
you in bed. Always wants to nap till the sun sets and trace the
stars with our mind. You feel safe even though you shouldn’t.
She knows you won’t leave, her kisses are bitter and you cling
to the bottle till you can’t remember and that’s when
she finds her escape. Short and easy like a ripped band aid in a
    	shower.

  1. November has a
curfew but never listens. She wants flowers on every table and for
tomorrow to be a gentler crime scene. There’s a knot in your
throat in the shape of her name. I don’t know how to speak her
language but the way her eyes gaze separates a heart from a soul.
She’s rebellious, like a biker jacket and a Harley, and she
likes when her mother no longer speaks to her. You tell November
she’s too careless, but no one told her you could die from
bliss and she never saw it coming.

  1. December
escapes in her greatest of loves. She can sing to you with waves of
goodbye like she doesn’t want to. December is stubborn, won’t
let you walk her home so your journey always starts and begins at
the bus stop. “I could love you but my past still has me in
its grasps, so it’d be a waste” she whispers. She knows
it isn’t best to be the first to dive in with a self
confidence to shatter within her own hands. Her father’s black
leather jacket looks mistaken on her quivering bones. “I blame
myself” she says, “is it because you know my name?”
You only remember her when you see the tree with your initials
carved into it, and that’s when it hurts the worst.

This is unbelievably beautiful, how you brought the months of the years to life. I'm going to point out all the things I loved. I like to tell the writer how I interpreted their words because when I write something and people give a review, I like to see if they saw it in their mind the same way that I did.
January- "just because we found love does not mean love will stay". January is realistic and unpredictable and you showed that by the storm comparison.
February- is scandalous, sexy, with no promises, will hurt before getting hurt. February makes me think of an independent "working" girl.
March- the purity, makes me think of a first love.
April- makes me think of a needy, addiction prone woman. "Always hungry, kisses with her teeth" love it.
May- reminds me of a short lived love that was sweet and did not end badly but didn't work out.
June- this one was harder for me to interpret for myself. It reminded me of any summer romance I've had and the promises of summer that only summer can make you believe.
July- reminds me of a sad love, one that you wish would stay but always seems out of reach. It reminds me of a girl who is always starting over.
August- "August is a rose, but roses still have thorns" gives me a bittersweet feeling.
September- is a needy girl, one who is inexperienced and unknowing. "She will learn from this more than you" really says that.
October- one of my favorite parts of your piece is what you wrote in this month. "You feel safe even though you shouldn't" , it reminds me of a type of love that doesn't care about anything else than the love.
November-" no one told her you could die from bliss and she never saw it coming " really spoke to me, reminding me of myself.
December- "I could love you but my past still had me in its grasp, so itd be a waste" is heartbreaking, reminding me of all the love that could have been if it wasn't for broken love in the past.

This piece really sparked my interest in writing again. After a recent loss of a friend I thought I lost my way and after reading this a few days ago I have begun to write again. Thank you for this inspiration and your beautiful words. This is amazing. Thank you for sharing.

Wow! I appreciate your time and review so much! Always love the how my writing can connect to others! I'm truly sorry for your loss. I hope writing does the same to you as it has done for me.

Your New Friend,
Cheaper

Whee! This is awesome~ I told you that I'd review it!

So the strongest point of your poem is that you characterized the 12 months so well. I was able to see that each had her own personality. You used metaphors to help the readers see the familiar in the strange, which is a big plus. Your imagery and characterization are your strong points.

There are three main things I'd like to discuss within the poem. These are just suggestions, but I think that they would make this lovely poem even more beautiful.

First, make sure you go through it with a red pen/fine toothed comb. There were at least four grammar errors that I saw. But I always like to find my own mistakes, so I'll let you do that as well. :)

The second thing is passive verbs. You use a lot of passive verbage to start out your stanzas. This is a missed opportunity for description. You have several active verbs. My favorite of your active ones is

December escapes in her greatest of loves
. Escape is a good characterizing verb to use here. Now, a place where you could change the verb to an active verb is May.
May was more beautiful
You could say "May burned more beautiful" Or even "May appeared more beautiful." Use a stronger verb to create stronger images.

The last thing I'll talk about is the length of the stanzas. While some of the months are more complex, as a poet, you know that words are a limited resource, and that you should use as few as possible to describe the most. Some of the stanzas are wordier than ideal poetry should be, so try phrasing things in a shorter manner and continue to use active verbs to convey the same depth of meaning.

Altogether, I really enjoyed reading this poem. I was riveted while reading, and it was hard to find the few flaws that I did! I hope that this review proves useful to you. Happy poeting!

Wow, Cheaper, this is so amazing. I was awed at the format you chose, with the months, and the hanging indents, and whatnot. It made your poem flow very well.

The poem itself is amazing. The entire thing is just knife after knife to my heart, and I loved it. I only found a few little typos in this entire poem, and one of them was in December. In the second line, it says "Decemberl". I'm sure the "L" isn't supposed to be there, but it's okay. I didn't notice it until my second read through. Also, in October, "keeps you in bad" most likely should have been "keeps you in bed". Also nearly unnoticeable.

The beginning was catching, and hooked me right away. The selective use of "bad" language was smart. If you had used it every other word, it may have turned some people away. Sticking one right in the beginning is a good way to hook the readers as the walk by, though. I can't tell you enough how much I adored this poem. Every different emotion, and there were so many of them, came through loud and clear, and you had such a beautiful and unique way of showcasing each one.

Well done with this, it is now one of my favorites. (Also, welcome to YWS.)

Thank you so much for sharing your feelings on it! I'm glad managed to create these emotions and share them with others! Also, thank you for locating those minor errors for me so I could fix them (:

Hi! I'm JustOneMorePoem and I'm glad to meet you!

So, turning towards the poem, I'm really glad that I read this. It's just so heart-felt and emotional, like you're the actual narrator going through all these experiences. From the first sentence in January, I had a feeling I was gonna get my feathers ruffled, and I was right, because in this poem words and emotions come together in harmony to form a symphonic poem that flows from one month to the next. So, not to waste anymore of your time, I just want to say that, this being your first poem, you have gained my respect, a like, and a subscribe because this was simply amazing.

Hope to see you again soon,

Firefox10 Review

Hi, CheaperPoetry, Firefox here. I got the shivers reading January and they still haven't stopped. I don't think I've ever read something so haunting. If it weren't a personal question I would ask if this is an autobiography because it sounds so gritty and real like you know each of these girls from experience. In December, you mention April again, but it looks like a typo so I'm assuming we're still talking about December. I was expecting December to be the happy ending, the girl who stayed, but looking back at August's foreshadowing it makes sense that there is no happy ending. I'm impressed, Cheaper, this made me think. Thank you for sharing! (Sorry if this is disjointed, I'm ridiculously tired :P.)

Hey Firefox! I appreciate the review, and yes that was suppose to say December and not April. Thank you for pointing that out so I could fix it! To be honest, it is sort of an autobiography mixed with inspiration from so true literary pieces I've discovered. Glad I could get you thinking (:
