It Takes Just A Moment

The moment one realizes
That life is an hourglass
You cannot turn over,
Is the moment
That one takes a pause
To relish what one has
And not chase after
What one doesn’t.
 
The moment one realizes
That a minute once gone,
Will never return again,
Is the moment
That he resolves to be happy
Every second of the way,
For a second in sadness
Is a second wasted.
 
The moment one realizes
That one should let
The sands of time
Run their course,
Is when he knows
That one must make
Every grain in that hourglass
Count for something.
 
And that is the moment
Which is the making of him;
He becomes a Man,
The likes of which
We have never seen much;
But Alas! These moments
Are rare in humanity,
Which is what makes
The people who have them
Quite precious as well.
 
Don’t let life pass you by;
Grab the bull by its horns,
Never waste a moment,
Do something worthwhile;
Toil the days and nights,
Build something permanent;
And as the last grain falls
From the hourglass,
You shall think back on your life
And not be disappointed.
