How many times will we say
"I can do it myself"
Before we realize
That we need help?
That pride can go only so far
Before caving in to common sense.
How many times
Will we push our friends away
Only to realize
That we can't stand on our own?
We can only go so far
Before crying out
For help that isn't there.
Why are we so stubborn?
Why does pride rule our hearts?
Independence doesn't mean
That we can't rely on anyone.

Great, great, great poem! It is literally the story of my life, as I am always struggling with the dilemma to accept others' help or not. Really neat, I must say. Although you could have used more creative language, it's nice this way as well. The last two lines are extremely true. The grammar and punctuation is fine.
Write on.
keep it up!

First off, you did a great job on the poem. I really liked it. It was very enjoyable. Again, I loved the moral. You did a good job on that. I really liked the first lines. Those were really awesome.
I liked your creativity and talent. Use it wisely.
There is not much that needs to be said.
Good luck and keep writing!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Very truly yours,
fantasydragon01
Thanks!
I have NEVER gotten this many likes on any of my poems.

Special thanks to those who liked and reviewed it!
Also, if anyone else besides me feel that this poem is incomplete, feel free to suggest some lines!
that is a really touching poem
hello, Swifty!
There are some punctuation things that I don't thing need to be there. For example, the capitalization of Common Sense, i think you may have meant intentionally, but it doesn't do anything for the poem, and it's a little distracting, so I would scrap it.
I think a lot of your sentences`are very long, and they're very sentence-like. This isn't always bad, but remember that poetry is about conveying your idea in the most clear, beautiful, and often, simple way possible.
I love the message, I can definitely relate, so thanks for getting me to review this!
oh, the Bob Marley/Dylan song is called 'Blowing in the Wind', and I THINK... it's a hippy song. war is wrong, etc. it's a beautiful song.
This is kind of like a song I know (bob dylan? bob marley? I forget)
It goes something like this:
How many roads must a man walk down
before we can call him a man?
how many miles must a white dove sail
before she sinks in the sand?
how many times must the cannonballs fly
before they're forever banned?
the answer my friend, is blowing in the wind
the answer is blowing in the wind...
That's a cool song. I'd like to hear it someday.
Hey, I really liked your poem!
I don't see any weird grammar or missing punctuation, so kudos to you! (Grammar and punctuation rules are always the obvious slip-ups that I wince at.) The theme of your poem is super universal--we all deal with pride, and we all at some point begin to think that trying to do everything ourselves is independent, not prideful and foolish. I can totally relate, because I do this way too much.
The rhythm and flow of your poem is pretty good, and the line breaks are well-placed. the only line break I disagree with is this:
Personally, I feel that this section would flow better if it read:
or, if that enjambment makes the poem's line-lengths look weird,
(Actually, I like my second suggestion better.) With the current line break, I felt that the pause between "help" and "that" is a little awkward and made me stumble. It's not horrible, of course, but that's what I noticed.
Pretty much the only thing I noticed. Great job.

Thanks, I agreed with the second suggestion too. :0
This is so beautiful! So true, and this is a lot of what people these days have a problem with! We all are arrogant, and try to sound tough, and we can do things on our own, but to only realize that we cannot! People do these things, but then learn from their experiences! If only everyone read this poem, some of them would open their eyes! This is a heat poem, in which I loved! Where did you get the inspiration? I think people should write about this stuff more often. Good for you for writing this! Official Thumbs up!
Keep Writing!
I have no idea where I got the inspiration. xD
Thank you!
No problem!
This is deeper than the Loch Ness. As the other reviewers have said below, you've managed to capture human nature with so few words. It's impressive. All this poem needed to sound more powerful was that one line: Pride Comes Before Downfall. One of the most true statements I have ever heard, and your poem has managed to convey the same essence.
We all need help, a hand to hold us when we slip. Even the most independent person will have slipped at least once in his/her life, so we need people around us, a support system to buoy us each time we're about to slip. As you state so eloquently "Independence doesn't mean that we can't rely on anyone."
I can tell that you've come at this from an emotional place. We've all been affected one way or another by pride; friends hurting us and too blinded by pride to accept fault, or even how our own pride has ruined certain opportunities in our lives. Thanks but no thanks pride, I think you're a little too overrated.
I agree.
Thank you for the review.
I would like to add Pride comes before downfall, but I don't know where to place it.
Oh wow. I don't know where to start. Perhaps how you pretty much described human nature in a few lines of poetry. Best poem I've read all day. Heck, best all week. I can't believe just how accurate this is, and I'm sure that nearly everyone can agree. Spot-on and excellent
Than you.
"Why are we so stubborn?" Is a question I often wonder, myself! Maybe it's in human nature to feel like you can do anything on your own. Your last two lines are a great way to end this well-written poem. They are also very true! The flow and feel of the poem was perfect throughout. I rather enjoyed the meaning behind it, as well. I didn't notice any spelling or grammatical errors, so good job with that! The title, grabbed my attention, and matched the core of the poem perfectly.
Overall, I really loved your poem, and it was very well-written!
~Nora
Thanks! It kind of has an incomplete feel about it...
Personally, I felt like it ended well with "Independence doesn't mean, That we can't rely on anyone."
However, if you feel it's incomplete, fix it up till you're satisfied! As the writer, you're the only one who knows what is best for your writing.
