Hi! Finally reviewing this.
First of all, I think I agree with someone above me- the part where you mentioned the Wraiths is where things get interesting. Up until then, it's kind of a slow read.
You repeated "old man" twice in the same sentence. I would just take out the second "that old man" and have it be "...determined to explain just how foolish inviting them over breakfast in their Tower was likely to be." I tweaked the sentence a little bit further than that because in my head it sounds a bit better.
Get rid of "you" before "bloody."
Okay, I'm a little confused. You mention that the two characters are stealing a tower belonging to someone named Jea, and I don't really...get WHY they're doing that. I think you need to mention it a lot earlier, like within the first few paragraphs. Why are they stealing it? Who is Jea to them?
I'll take a moment here to say that I like the relationship the master and apprentice seem to have. I like the bickering humor between them.
You repeated "his master" a lot here, and while I know it's meant to be a listing of things, I'm not sure if it's good or bad.
I think you have a great start here. I'm definitely going to want to read more! I hope this was helpful. ^_^
I'm here!
So the story. To date, I have only ever read your poems (I think) Now, I know its been far too long because this piece is breathtaking!
Your imagery was really well placed amd you didn't go overboard with the description which is a relief. The scene was understandable, your main charachter was relatable and well it was all thoroughly enjoyable.
To be honest I'm not into fantasy sort of stuff but your work surprised me-I learned to really got into. Your title was chosen carefully I think. We still have no idea where you could take it but it was a sense of mytery to it which keeps is interested.
Your plot was paced well, nether too slow or too fast. It was quite an enjoyable pace and I think I would be happy to snuggle down and read more of this.
Errors, there were a few but not enough to warrant a really long essay of nit-picking. You edit well so I have no problems here!
Overall I'd like to know more about your charachters. You've built quite a good foundation and now we need the house! xD
You must have put alot of effort into this and it really comes out in your work. I will be waiting for more and PM please when more is written.
Alls good,
Hope I helped

First of all: YOU SUCK AND YOUR FEET SMELL AND YOUR NOSE RUNS.
Okay, now that that's done...
Making tea is fine, but I kind of like a sense of anticipation. This is where the anticipation started for me:
That's when I was like, "Aha! There is kind of a story here!"
As it stands, the making tea part isn't really a problem. The problem is, you tend to repeat yourself, so it's kind of awkward. So, Blailey keeps on messing up on the tea and asking whether they should really make tea... if you want to do this (which is fine) give a little hint of anticipation. I mean, making tea is all fine and good, but he's making tea for Wraiths. That is something that will hook us. If he mumbles, "I didn't even know Wraiths liked tea" or "Wraiths need sugar too" or something along those lines, it will build up the anticipation of what is to come. And that's kind of important. It's kind of like a strip tease! Yeah, playing with your bra straps can be highly sexy, but if it doesn't come off fast enough and you keep on doing the same thing, the guy is going to fall asleep. Or... um... something else. XD
Anyway! There are a lot of names thrown about. I'm a bit confused! Which, mind you, is an easy thing to do because I am very confusable, but still. I'm not sure who Jea is or what her relationship with the two are, so she's kind of random to me. I don't know. Maybe I am just reading this when I am tired and that's why it isn't really making any sense!
ALSO, YOU HAVE TONS OF GRAMMATICAL ERRORS BECAUSE YOU ARE A HORRIBLE PERSON AND I HATE YOU WOE WOE ANGST ANGST EVEN YOUR WAR PAINT WEEPZ WIT ANGST.
Heya Rach!
I'm going to suck at it though because your writing is, like, epic, but hey, I'll see if I can come up with something. You've got some really nice reviews here, so mine won't sound annoyingly repetitive, hopefully. So yeah... onto the review!
I'm finally reviewing something of yours!
This was a very interesting piece... Weird... but I like it. I'm not 100% sure what to make of this as a whole though, to be honest. Unsurprisingly, your grammar was very good. I had to say that I thought the style and the flow of this story was very comfortable and easy to follow. You managed to phrase things in a way that didn't have me reading anything over and over again for me to understand exactly what you were saying. I like the whole making tea idea because it seems rather quirky and random to me. I suppose some people could argue that it's a bad thing, but I personally rather like it.
My main issue with this actually has something to do with the making tea idea. Although it was written well, and you introduced your characters effectively, I'm not sure if this is an especially great way to start a novel. You managed to get a good hook at the ending, but as a whole, I didn't feel like the prelude itself had an overly "start of novel" feel to it. This is probably more of an opinion thing, so this critique is arguable. I'm on two halves with the overall idea of this, come to think of it. Part of me thinks this is a very good way to open a novel because of the fact that this is a fantasy novel. At the beginning, this seems so... normal. You have the odd flash of fantasy, which I like. Then again, this doesn't feel much like a beginning to me because there's not an awful lot that hooks me in. Ah... I'm confusing myself now...
Okay... What I think you need to do is make the beginning draw me in more. Start off with a line that makes me have to look twice. Not that I can say much... I suck at opening lines, but hey, you're great writer. I know you can come up with something. What I found was the beginning was kind of slow, but by the end, it picked up nicely. If you can create the same feeling in the beginning of this as the feeling there is by the end, it will complete the piece in a nicer way, I think. The other reviewers have pointed out some good points as well, so you should definitely take them into consideration.
Hmm.... That's about it, I think. I feel rather useless here... xD There's not much else I can think of to say that hasn't already been said. Just take into consideration what reviewers have, and will, say. With a bit of editing at the beginning, maybe, this could be a seriously great opening for your novel. Your writing itself is great, and I really like your characters. I especially like Blailey's character.
Keep writing, and sorry I wasn't that much help!

Hi there! I thought this was a pretty good start to your novel - the character interaction is very good and natural.
Although, I don't really understand what the difference between a prelude and a prologue is?
Pah. I totally disagree with this statement. Having them do something ordinary is how we get to know the characters; how else we will see how they develop when thrown into a new situation. TEA IS GOOD.
It's also a good way for you to build the setting; in a fantasy novel like this, you need to slowly reveal the world to the readers, which you appear to be doing very well.
Mostly this reads very nicely and draws the reader in - especially with the end!!
Although, I think the first few sentences could do with some work. They don't really grab the attention in any way. Maybe just describe the pot, and leave Blailey unmentioned until Oskit talks? Try and build intrigue in some way.
Hope this helps!

Well, Rachael, I'm really glad you reposted it.

I enjoyed reading it the second time as much as the first.
Like I said before, I find your descriptions to flow beautifully and the scene was easy to picture. I like the interaction between Blailey and his master and Blailey's cheekiness. He is not subdued or submitted to his master; he has thoughts and a tongue of his own.
I can't wait to find out more about these two and the magic you speak of in this world.
Looking forward to reading more,
Tanya
P.S Thanks for the plug
Where's it gone! NOOOOOOOO....
Very interesting start to the story. I like the premise and the way that this scene sets up for an interesting first chapter. There are a few grammar/phrasing issues that don't seem quite right to me but other than that, good work! The main critique I have is that some of the dialogue seems a little unnecessary. Maybe you could try tightening up the scene a little bit more.
Hey Rachael! This is my first review in a while...

"Elsewhere" and "in the room" seem weird together. Why not just specify where he is in the room? Or leave this sentence out altogether?
Yes, yes. Yeah, Yeah. Is this an Avril Lavigne song?
The "his assistant" made me think there was a third person in the room.
Alright.
II. MAKING TEA
Where I come from, we drink a lot of tea. We make a lot of tea. Making tea for someone else isn't a big deal. It's like clockwork.
Which is why reading about them making tea, as different as the situation may be, isn't particularly exciting.
Also- when is tea made in a kettle? And can you even burn water? Do they not have a whistling kettle anyway?
Mostly, it didn't strike me as the most exciting way to start off a story. Even with the fact that they're using someone else's tower- but that could have been explained in a paragraph or two. In all this, we don't learn much else, and there's not a whole lot of conflict. I think that it'd be more interesting to start where you ended, if I'm honest.
III. OVERALL
Your writing itself is good- I enjoyed reading about making tea, only I'm questioning if it's necessary.
Hope I helped, drop me a note if you need anything!
