In Poetry

In the mirror, everything's changed,

Flipped around, rearranged.

But to all of our surprise,

Everything looks normal to our eyes.

It makes the horrors of this world delight,

Makes the good shrink back in fright.

But what can we say about these things?

Is not horror where hope springs?

In the mirror we see things clear,

What we despise, what we hold dear.

Both of these things are one ad the same,

Two sides of a coin, both to blame.

I didn't really feel that this was very scary. I seen it as more of a Halloween horror. Almost child like. That isn't to say it was bad. In fact I liked it an awful lot. I really liked your ryhmeming scheme and admire that you were able to pull it off so well. Your ending:

Both of these things are one ad the same,

Two sides of a coin, both to blame.
Was one of the more powerful lines in this poem.

I also liked your use of rhetorical questions:
But what can we say about these things?

Is not horror where hope springs?

It's a good way in drawing in a reader and having them wanting more. Which was my case.

All in all this was a rather enjoyable read and is now a personal favourite of mine. Good job.

Thanks Niraco!

First off, I am really loving this review day because it's like tidying up everything and giving everybody what we all want: attention and reviews!
So now, without further ado, I will devote my attention to your marvelous piece of prose :)

Okay, so I've only found one grammatical error. A simple typo:

Both of these things are one ad the same,

You misspelled "and". No biggie ^^

I really like the rhyme scheme of this poem. It has a very nice flow to it, almost like a song. I also really like the theme of this poem.
The opening lines are my favourite:
In the mirror, everything's changed,

Flipped around, rearranged.

I like the way it sounds :) This was a really good poem! I'd enjoy reading more of your poetry!

Thanks Emjayc!

Knight Malachi here to review for the Knights of the Green Room.
I have to be honest with you; this poem confused me a little, especially after reading the description.

Our reflections reveal the worst in us, our warped sense of who we are. This poem reflects our feelings about ourselves and the world we live in.

It seemed like this poem was going to be all about how we thinks things are good, but in reality a lot of the stuff we do is not so great. But with the poem it didn't sound quite like that. I didn't really get what the poem meant.
Now, your punctuation was near perfect; good job on that. I also liked the way you wrote everything. There weren't any parts that seemed to jump out of rhythm. And I liked your imagery and description.
Maybe I just read it too fast' let me know with a reply.

Yeah, I really didn't know what to put for the explanation of the poem, so I just tried to lay out the general idea... but I guess I didn't explain it that well. What I was really trying to portray was that both hope and horror are to blame in this world, that both lead to each other. We are both the hope and horror of this world. Thanks for the review!

Hi! I'm new (just joined) and thought I'd give this a lil' review.

I particularly like the image portrayed within the first four likes, it really made me think about things. I'm not sure about the next two lines, however, although it fits in reasonably well. I must also point out a little grammar error/typo, on the line 'Is not horror where hope springs?'. You should add an 'it' between 'Is' and 'not'. There is also an error with the lil' word 'ad' on the third last line. My grammar isn't perfect but I thought I should point it out.

The imagery of this is good, and can be manipulated by each individual according to what they 'see' in the mirror.

It's good that it's short and sweet, I haven't much time for long poems.
