Trigger warning: Depression, suicide.

Some days are hard.
Some days when I wake I cry to dream again.
Some days make me want
to bury myself in the comfort of sadness.
All I can see is dreary grey.
________________________________
I thought I was past it, but it
hovers on the edge of my mind.
That final comfort. That assured comfort.
The promise that I can let go of everything.
That I can trust in the void
to be a better place than this.
Scars beg to be reopened.

The little things get to me; the stumbles and missteps
of daily life, which wrap around Despair
and armour her to fight me.
Nothing can seem to go right;
why fight at all?
Give in, they whisper,
the minds of my pains,
Give in. Let go.
You don't need to suffer us anymore.

And then I watched the stars come out.
Tiny pinpricks of life and light, they bloomed
into the bleeding darkness
of the evening sky.
I hear the faintest sigh:
There is so much to live for.
______________________________
The cool wind on a hot summer eve
that sends chills of pleasure
down my spine.
Sweet music, from instruments
and the hearts of my friends.
Every sunset: a burst of all the colours
I thought I had lost.
The pattering of rain on my roof,
a hummed lullaby to ease me to sleep,
and the earthy scents of the world after.

Books, webtoons, poems, films,
that allow me to enter a better place
when this one is too much.
They allow me to dream and imagine impossibilities,
Warm me better than the sun, and make me believe
that somewhere in this universe,
there's something good and pure and beautiful,
filling me with a powerful longing I can't ignore.
They make me want to live.

The breath of life, I see everywhere;
in the waving grass, the loving trees,
the singing birds and the humming bees;
the love of those I've known and lost,
the hottest sunshine, the coldest frost;
the breaking clouds and the dawn of spring,
the gentle moon and the light she brings.

My eyes were tinted by the bleakest grey,
But I remember the
vibrant greens, reds, yellows, blues,
and I paint the grey with my own colours,
filling the canvas with what I choose to see.

I sought the pain because it's what I know.
I'm afraid to let myself live, to stand up
and risk falling again. But I see beauty,
around and inside me.
I will believe the voice that whispers of life.

Last night I watched the stars come out,
one by one,
And I choose to smile.

Hey, I'm here to review!! I am happy to help since I have the same problem.
First off, I really liked this and I think you did a really great job showing the push and pull of the situation. Sometimes I think too many people portray it as absolute certainty one way or another when in reality it's not always like that. I admire how you built the contrast between the "opposing sides" while still letting them develop individually.
I did find that the flow between lines was a little choppy. It might be helpful to speak your poems out loud to find where it feels good to stop a line. I use this method and find it's really helpful.
Overall I enjoyed this perspective greatly and would love to read more work of yours. Hope this helped!

ps. I feel for you and if you ever need to talk PM me 🖤
Thank you for the feedback!

I made the flow choppy on purpose, actually, to intensify the feeling of confusion and being lost. I didn't want it to be a smooth read because, you know, life isn't smooth.
I absolutely loved this! My favorite part is about choosing colors to fill the canvas. Great job!
Thank you so much!
Thank you so much!
This was very real and needed. Often days are what they are, neither good nor bad, and sometimes somethings, like this poem, makes you see the life force around you that was already there, something that wasn't created by your mind or imagination but simply there without scrutiny or judgement. I chose to smile is a powerful thought.
I'm happy that you liked it, sid!
Lee, this was such a touching poem. You did an amazing job <3
<333 Thank you, Momo!
Hey FlamingPhoenix here with a review! It's all stormy here so I am up to reviewing! Lol
Okay so this was a really deep poem! Such emotion clung to every word. For me it was really heart breaking. There was so much to this poem, and I'll get more into that after this.
So I looked for ways to help you out as best I could, and this was really the only thing I saw. The only small word of advise I have for you is maybe change the first or second 'comfort' into something else. Repeating the word right after one another seems to mess up to flow a little. Now this is only my opinion, so if others say otherwise ignore me. Lol
I'm not very good with poems so I'm afraid that was the only thing I picked up.
Now onto the much better things. As I was reading this I picked up on the small story you were telling. And I can really relate to is. There have been so many times I have felt this way, and I'm really amazing at how well you betrayed the emotions. Even as I write this the feeling cling to me. They have such an affect on the reader its amazing!
You made writing this look easy like it really wasn't all that hard. And for that you should be really proud of yourself!
I'm sorry I couldn't help you out more. It was really hard to pick up on anything that needed tweaking. I do hope you will write more poems. Your really good at it.
And I do hope what ever depression you have will leave you and you can continue with your days in joy!
I do hope you have an amazing day or night, and stay worm!
