Inspiration...

In Poetry

Sometimes, inspiration evades me,
Hiding like a shadow in the night,
Descending into that deep dark hole, my mind.

Sometimes, I can hear it scream
Calling my thoughts, up in arms,
Pushing pleading for paper, the sacred medium.

Sometimes, inspiration hits me
Harder than a heard of rabid elephants
Bulky beefed up ideas, brainwaves not that bright

Sometimes, it doesn’t want me
No matter how hard I search, it runs
Far far away in a foreboding forest, it calls it’s self…
Writer’s block…

I quite like this but I need some good constructive criticism to make it better!
But i fixed the title, sorry!

Amazing. I love it. I see no faults to it, but then again anything put up against what I wright is usually perfect. lol. Keep up the good work.

I quite liked this ^_^ It summs up writer's block quite nicely. And it's also very inspirational ;D And I love that while looking for inspiration, you wrote a poem about looking for inspiration. That's bloody brilliant!

Hey, this was a very cool piece to read. I totally get the idea behind this poem. I too hate writers block! It's almost like you're waiting for your own imagination to come to you. It can be a tedious thing. ;P So I like this poem because it sort of describes that. The only line I found distracting was this:

Descending into that deep dark hole, my mind.

I think this would have sounded a little better as maybe, "Descending into that deep dark hole called my mind." Or maybe "that is my mind", or something of a variation. Having just "my mind" doesn't quite seem to flow right. But maybe you just think otherwise. This is your poem after all. :) Great job with it.

Hey Jennya! I'm here to review your work on this Happy Review Day!

You certainly didn't have writers block when you typed this work up! Many people have tried to explain inspiration and have failed, I think you may have succeeded...

Hmm? For nitpicks I only have one Pushing pleading for paper, maybe an and would be required between pushing and pleading?

I like the part when you explain it is running up your arms, pushing you to put pen to paper as all us writers have done again and again. It reminded me of myself when imagination hits me at the most unlikely of moments. I hated having ideas while on holiday! >.<

So all in all, a very good poem and I expect to see more of your work in the future, on YWS or even published! :D

Hey there, Jennya! I'm here to review you poem. ^^

I must say, this is pretty good. And I'm impressed. I like it. A lot. I like your use of language, too. Very nice. The flow and rythym are fine, if a little off. But that's okay. I never liked perfection, so it's a good thing... At least, to me. And the imagery is beautifully amazing. ^^ I love it. So. Much. XD *hugs*

Okay, now. Nitpicks. Only one so far and that's this; "Pushing pleading for paper, the sacred medium." Perhaps adding in an 'and' between "Pushing" and "Pleading" might help that line sound better? Or a comma? Other than that, no other nitpicks. Sadly. But that's okay, too.

Overall, Jennya, I loved this poem. It's nice and bittersweet and somewhat strange. In a good way. It truly does describe inspiration perfectly! XD lol. And I said I never did like perfection. Oh, well. Sometimes perfect works. >.> Anyhow. Thank you, Jennya, for the wonderfully amusing poetry. I adore it! ^^ *clicks like* Remember, keep it up and never stop writing!

~Scar. ^^

Hy!
First of all, congratulations on a good poem, but it could use some tweaking.
The structure of it is good, taking things in steps , but you could have made the imagery and atmosphere better, make them burst out more.

Harder than a heard of rabid elephants

Kind of odd, but I guess you just wanted to emphasize how hard.
All in all , a good poem.

Hi,

I think this is a fresh, new portrayal of a comfortably old topic!
First for some nitpicks...

Sometimes I would delete the comma here inspiration evades me,
Hiding like a shadow in the night,
Descending into that deep dark hole: or ; my mind.

Sometimes again, would delete the comma I can hear it scream
Calling my thoughts, up in arms,
Pushing I agree with the previous reviewer that this needs either an "and" or a comma pleading for paper, the sacred medium. I love this stanza!

Sometimes, inspiration hits me
Harder than a to reiterate, herd of rabid elephants in fact, I'm not sure how I feel about this line...it just seems a bit out of place with the rest of the poem
Bulky beefed up ideas, brainwaves not that bright

Sometimes, it doesn’t want me
No matter how hard I search, it runs
Far far away in a foreboding forest, it calls this is indeed itself
Writer’s block…

Well, nitpicks aside, I really loved this poem and thought that you've done a great job on it. It is just loose enough to not sound too formal, while not completely breaking the barriers that many people seem to disregard!

Fantastic job,

You described inspiration perfectly!
Just some little things:

Jennya wrote:Sometimes, inspiration evades me,
Hiding like a shadow in the night,
Descending into that deep, dark hole, my mind. Sorry, but I'm really picky when it comes to comas

Sometimes, I can hear it scream
Calling my thoughts, up in arms,
Pushing (and?) pleading for paper, the sacred medium.

Sometimes, inspiration hits me
Harder than a herd of rabid elephants
Bulky, beefed up ideas, brainwaves not that bright

Sometimes, it doesn’t want me
No matter how hard I search, it runs
Far, far away in a foreboding forest, it calls it’s self…
Writer’s block…

I quite like this but I need some good constructive criticism to make it better!
But i fixed the title, sorry!

I really liked it!
This is exactly how I feel about inspiration, and it's also exactly the way you described it.
(right now it definitely is like this..: )

Sometimes, it doesn’t want me
No matter how hard I search, it runs
Far far away in a foreboding forest, it calls it’s self…
Writer’s block…

But isn't it: It calls itself? (just asking, I'm not really that good at grammar..)

Well done!
Keep up the good work!

You misspelled the title.
It should be inspiration not insparation.
