As hard as hearts

I now see time beats hard as hearts,
but I’m left out in the cold,
living in the idiot’s shadow,
‘til her and I grow old.

I know that she has needs,
But I have needs too,
I just wish you saw that I,
miss spending time with you.

I know that I’m a big boy now,
and I see that she is struggling,
but honestly she is lazy,
and on my heart it’s tugging.

I’ve worked so hard, come so far,
Can you see me yet?
I’m standing at the top of the world,
with nothing to regret.

But that’s the future, this is now,
and honestly I’m sad,
where on earth did my parents go?
I just see her and her mum and dad.

It hurts me when you sigh,
at everything I say.
as though you’ve run out of love,
or hours in the day.

So mother, father, please don’t cry,
when I ask of you sincerely:
Although you spend your time on her,
Do you still love me dearly?

First up, I liked the poem. A three and a half out of five for sure. Moving on to some of the things the poem can improve upon :

"I just wish you saw that I,
miss spending time with you."

I personally would have avoided that second 'I' from showing up in the first line. How about putting it in the next one. It sounds a bit odd while reading, this way.

"I know that I’m a big boy now,
and I see that she is struggling,
but honestly she is lazy,
and on my heart it’s tugging."

I don't really like to cry about rhyme scheme but I did not like the word 'tugging' in that last line. You did not really have to put a word that rhymes with struggling. But tugging makes it look like you tried to and you failed. That's just something I felt while reading the poem.
I enjoyed the rest of the poem. Good work friend. Cheers :)

I love a good old classic rhyming poem. nothing better than rhyming :) I felt the sadness and heartbreak in this poem and can totally relate to the theme.
That feeling of always being second best, everyone feels it at least once in their life. I am the first child in my family and when my mum and dada had my younger sister they spent all there time with her. i felt really hurt and confused. i just wanted them to love me the same as they had before.
you have portrayed this clearly and i must congratulate you on how excellent you have created these feelings.

"I’ve worked so hard, come so far,
Can you see me yet?
I’m standing at the top of the world,
with nothing to regret."

i love this part! it is totally how i feel all the time with everything. i'm doing my best, so why isn't that good enough for you? i guess i just love this poem because i can relate to it :) but more than that, it is wonderfully written and the title of the poem really got to me and made me want to read it.

Please please please keep writing! you are very good :)
