The rose is a symbol of love-
I’ve often wondered why.
A sharp blade is used to cut it
From its home, its place of birth.
The cold, hard steel
Shortens its life.
It will soon wither away
And fade into nothing.
Its stem is full of thorns,
They bite and tear.
Its head is the color of blood
Flowing from wounded hands and injured hearts.
Its beauty is passing,
It soon shrivels and dies.
So tell me, why a rose?
~
But one day someone set me straight,
He told me why this oddity is so.
Blood is the color of a rose,
Blood is what keeps us alive.
Hearts are the color of a rose,
Hearts that beat with love and joy.
Green is the color of spring,
Of life, and of growth.
Love can hurt like a knife,
But in the end, separation from family
Is what allows us to grow into something more.
Only when the stem is cut
Can it raise up a new bush.
A little bit of scratching at the surface
Is often necessary to reveal
The beauty of red love beneath.
The rose is a symbol of love-
So tell me, why not a rose?

Hi there! Happy Review Day! Here is just a quick review for you.
So, I never really think about roses, just that they're given to show love, they have their thorns, and they come in about three different colors. Yeah, yeah.
And now you write this, with true meaning that I never thought of before 0.0
This poem is truly beautiful, you wrote the words wonderfully and the meaning, description, and details were written nicely.
My favorite line is this one:
True to the heart <3
I don't really have anything to critique! You did a very good job writing this, keep writing!!

Hi, IamMe! I really liked this poem and your idea was very unique. I honestly wished I had thought of this myself but I woudn't have written it half as good. I liked how this poem had both positive and negative in it. I love debates and this poem really sounded like one. My favourite lines would be:
"Blood is the color of a rose,
Blood is what keeps us alive.
Hearts are the color of a rose,
Hearts that beat with love and joy."
Really great poem and hope to read more of your work.

At first I read this and was like true but man this is really pessimistic.... then I read the rest. Vivid, crisp, and new . Well done and good balance here I loved it keep it up!
Thank you!
you're welcome
Beautiful :3 This is really great, good job!
This is profoundly beautiful, well done
*blushes* Why thank you! :')
*applauds*
I love this, this truly is something I found interesting to read a second time! Thank you for posting this to here!! And great job
Wow, I've never thought of the meaning of a rose in that way before.

I found this beautiful, and better yet, I found no grammar errors
The theme of roses, and the meaning of their colors, is broad and interesting, and I urge you to keep writing about them in the same fashion as you have written this poem. (I.e. yellow means friendship, white means innocent and things like that..)
Overall very good and sweet
Thank you!!
Firstly, thank you for explaining something I've always wondered.

Secondly, this is a beautiful piece of writing. You manage to make it sound depressed in the first paragraph, then hopeful in the second without leaving your readers behind. I would tell you what I liked, but I'd have to copy out your entire poem.
I'm not a spelling/grammar expert, but as far as I can see you haven't made any mistakes. So well done there.
Personally my favourite line is: "Love can hurt like a knife." But like I said, I love this whole poem. It flows well.
I spend a lot of my time on this website wishing I had come up with the idea that someone else did. But then I remember I wouldn't have written it anywhere near as well. This is one of those times. Definitely a like from me.
Aw, thank you!
