Christmas carols chime
A priest says Christmas mass
Christmas time
Has come at last
There is a certain magic
about this time of year.
It is hardly tragic,
but it can draw a tear.
Christmas cookies are freshly made,
the aroma fills the air.
Old decorations have begun to fade,
but it's Christmas, so who cares?
Decorating an evergreen,
the ornaments come out.
Setting up a nativity scene,
move figurines about.
Christmas is a magic time,
a time for love and cheer.
When old old stories are told in rhyme,
and we ring in the New Year.

A Christmas tree filled with candy canes, hanging from each branch,
Sneaking a present from beneath the tree, causing an avalanche.
Santa sliding down the chimney, face covered in black,
He takes a bite of the cookies and his tooth begin to crack.
A child staring from the stairs is watching, when Santa notices he says hey,
He says hey, is it really you? Santa smiles and says good day.
Grabbing the presents from his bag, he set them on the floor,
Without another word, he walks right out the door.
Lol, I was bored. So, I decided to post something myself.
I like yours way better!
Thank you! Hey, maybe you should write your own Christmas poem!
I'm sorry, I didn't mean to offend you in any way I was just trying to do a review!
What? No, you didn't offend me.
Ok
This is an awesome poem. It really gets me in the Christmas spirit! I like the rhyme and the imagery that this poem indicates.
Red and green and gold tinsel or a mistletoe, lights on the house and reindeer hooves, wrapping paper all aglow in candlelight and - can you smell the gingersnaps?
Including the title, you've written "Christmas" seven times! If you had one more Christmas, you would have had eight, and then you might as well have changed it to a poem about the eight days Hanukkah. I hope you know I'm just joking around, here.
There are plenty of ways to make a holiday poem cozy, and I don't doubt that you and your family or you and your friends have celebrated the holiday season together. I don't doubt that you can imagine a chill in the air and big bundled jackets (that make everyone look a little like Santa). There is the taste of holiday food - and you could describe this, for effect.
You tell us about Christmas cookies, but what are these cookies to you? How warm are they? How soft? Do you fight with others to take the last?
And - wait - how fast are people putting up the evergreen's ornaments! I want to be excited for this! Christmas time is exciting and brimming with child-like delight and all that. That's how I remember Christmas. At least, that's how I envision my ideal Christmas. This poem is so very nice and gentle, I wish I could feel the hustle and bustle of elves at work instead.
Best wishes,
from me to you.
Thank you for the advice! If I had written this closer to Christmas, it definitely would have made it with more frantic pacing, a 'clock ticking down' sort of vibe, but at the moment it's a while until Christmas. It's still a long way and the countdown is going slow.
Hello there! I'm Crissy! Good job! I like the overall feel of the poem, that's for sure. And I like the rhyme scheme...and I like the format...actually, there's really nothing I don't like.
But I was reading the comment below and I agree with you that old old keeps the rhythm of the poem, but it's not exactly necessary. You could replace the first or second old with a similar word, for instance, or you could just break the rhythm, it wouldn't be a total travesty. But good job! Keep writing!
Thank you!
One question, in the second to last line, did you mean to say "old old stories"? If so, it should have a comma between the olds.
Loved the poem, keep writing!
Other than that it was really sweet. It described so many of the Christian preparations for Christmas and really well. I liked your descriptions and it did get me in the Christmas spirit like you said
I actually prefer it without a comma. I wrote it with two olds to keep the rhythm, and I think a comma would slow it down.
Thanks a lot for reviewing!
No problem
I just thought I'd mention it, in case it was an accident.
