My Dog

Dedicated to @Lake who inspired me to write this.

This is probably terrible...

My best friend has paws,

My best friend has a tail and claws.

Goofy smile and fluffy ears,

her kisses banish all my fears.

-

I can tell she’s been on my bed,

and she hasn’t eaten what she’s been fed.

I guess this time I’ll let it slide.

As she glues herself to my side.

-

She comforts me when I am sad,

and tries to fit into my lap.

I tell her she weighs ninety pounds,

But she refuses to get down.

-

She greets me after a long day,

She hates it when I go away

I love her truly with all of my heart,

she has no bite, but she’s full of bark.

-

She listens to me when I talk

Sometimes we go out for walks,

She’s cute and gives me just what I need.

I hope she feels the same about me.

-

My best friend has paws

My best friend has a tail and claws,

Snoring, as she lays by my bed.

“Night” I whisper and pat her head.

I can't poems! I tried. (Okay, She is literally laying by my bed and snoring, right now.)

Thanks for sharing this poem about friendship between you and your dog. I really enjoyed reading this poem and didn't mind the lack of enjambment at all. In fact, it lends the poem a certain charm that it would not have had if enjambment had been used.

I also liked the occasional or slant rhymes. Glad to see that as a poet you recognize its value and are not shackled by the notion that each rhyme must match exactly.

The poem very effectively conveys the appreciation of that you feel for such a wonderful companion. Your descriptions of a friend having tail and paws are very noteworthy and indicate that physical differences are really not that important and what counts id the quality of the friendship itself.

Thank you so much for the review, I'm glad you liked it! :)

Hey there! You insisted you can't write poems... but... I'm here to tell you that you did and you're pretty good at it!

I absolutely loved your poem. My childhood pet whom I lost two years ago was my life. He was a black and tan shiba inu, and he was my best friend too. Your poem touched my heart, probably somewhat because of that, but also because you wrote such a cute poem about your own four legged best friend. :)

I love truly her with my whole heart,

The only thing I saw in your poem, and should be "I truly love her with my whole heart", but my only suggestion besides this correction would be to say "with all of my heart"- purely my own opinion.

Overall, I adore this poem. you're rhyming was pretty good and consistent. Great job and i hope to read more of your work soon!

Keep writing,

-Katja

Thank you so much! I'm glad you liked it <3

Samk642 popping in to give a review!!!!!

OK, I love the dog poem. It is so heartwarming as your poem reminds me of my dogs from my early childhood!!! My current dog is a treeing walker and is a ball of energy at 17 weeks old.

Your poem has a great flow (from my feeble perspective) and describes at the core what a dog is supposed to be, which is a loyal companion. The ending, tying back to the start is also well done.

In short, I loved it, made my day. Good luck!!!

Thank you so much! <3 I'm glad you liked it :)

It was my pleasure to read!!!

@Lake I tried... I really did... XD

Not bad, but that was still pretty funny!XD I only saw one mistake and like @KatjaDawn did, it was "I love truly her with my whole heart." Obviously it should be I truly love her with my whole heart, but other than that, you did amazing! See, you're not as bad as you think!XD But I'll take your word for it!

heheh, thanks! :)

XD I fixed the typo
