Summer Sandcastle Challenge (Poetry!)

Need something to do in this Summer Sun? Jump into the Summer Sandcastle Building Challenge with some different Poetry Activities from your Poetry moderating team!



Watch for different challenges (shared on the people tab and posted here this July / August) for opportunities to collect your building supplies for your sandcastle!





It's as easy as 1, 2, 3!

1. Collect Your Supplies You can't build a sandcastle without some supplies! Grab a shovel, some sea-shells, some sticks, and maybe a hermit crab to guard your castle! (Complete 3 (or more) of the Sandcastle Poetry Challenges this July / August)

2. Gather Your Sand Time to get serious and get all that sand together! (When you've completed an activity, grab a link to where you've completed it and bring it here to share!)

3. Build It Up! We're ready for the heavy lifting and that means bringing in your friends! (Poetry is better with friends right? To complete step 3 all you have to do is tag a friend's on the people tab, on their wall, or over here to challenge them to participate in the Sandcastle Challenge too!)



If you complete all 3 steps you'll earn the Summer Sandcastle Badge!

2#ImitateMe - share about your poetry style on your wall, and then write a poem imitating someone else on their wall with the hashtag #ImitateMe to complete this challenge.

3#ReWriteHistory - rewrite an old poem in your current style and use the hashtag #RewriteHistory to complete this challenge.

To complete this challenge, write a poem contained on a sticky note and share a picture of it on your wall with the hashtag #StickyPoem ! It can be tricky to fit a whole poem on a single sticky note - but is a fun challenge in being concise. Use your creativity for where you're going to leave your poem... on a tree, on your fridge, with a book, your morning coffee mug. Take care when sharing a picture not to expose any private information (street signs, school name, social security number etc.) Have fun!

As part of Poetry Crew’s Summer Sandcastle Challenge, we’d like to invite you all to participate in the imitateme challenge! Rewrite History Challenge

For challenge three of the Summer Sandcastle Challenge, poets take an older poem of theirs and rewrite it and post it under the the hashtag #rewritehistory to show off their developing style and skills in poetry. Post an older poem beside a modern edition of the same poem to highlight your growth as both a person and a poet. Feel free to go as far back in history as you’d like, but try to keep the original poem’s themes and messages consistent with the re-written version. Have fun (& don't forget to challenge other YWSers if you haven't already)!
