Re: clubs

I appreciate the expansion of clubs! I've always felt like clubs had potential to be fun hubs of more niche activities but were a little clunky and had performance issues. The updates to them will help with that absolutely.

I do think I am still going to struggle justifying using activity in clubs personally when forums are there. I say this because:
- Forum posts show up on the front page whereas club topic posts do not
- You can like a forum to broadcast it on people's feed. Unless you're subscribed to clubs it doesn't show up in the feed. There's also no club alternative to "liking" a topic to advertise it.

-- perhaps club admins can have an option to "Post to People" when they make club announcements and it would share it to people feed on "All Members" and as if they were in the club

- Club topic posts don't count towards a numerical record like forum posts do, so there's not a way to show that you're active in clubs like there is to show you're active in forums. (This one may feel niche, but I have known quite a few members who were extremely active in clubs like Roleplay Geeks but unless you were a part of the club, you wouldn't know they were active on the site. Lots of posts in the clubs but little forum posts)

All good ideas @Omni! I don't see any reason not to implement them. Should be done by end of day.

I noticed that the recommendations for similiar other works in the same folder, that appeared on the sidebar while reading a literary piece, are now gone? I remember seeing a drop-down version for mobile but can nowhere find it on desktop. Would very much like it back, kindly direct me to it if there's an updated way to see it now! It's just difficult to read a series this way, fetching every chapter or poem seperately.

Edit: Found 'em! But apparently, they're only visible in the landscape mode though (I'm on a tablet right now). It'd be nice if there was a way to see them in both, if the mobile version could be used here as well, or they could be shifted below the work for in the portrait mode at least?

Oh, and I see the avvies on 'The Feed' are terribly blurred, could you get rid of this terrible annoyance please and perhaps improve their quality?

The way my profile banner stretches is funny but I do wonder if there’s a way for it to auto crop on mobile instead? Idk

Lots of improvements to clubs per @Omni's suggestions. Club topics now show on the front page, club forum posts count toward your post total, and club updates now show in all members. There's additional checks on each to make sure you aren't seeing posts from hidden clubs that you're not a member of.

@soundofmind ->> Unfortunately, there's no good solution there, and I suspect that no matter what I do, someone will not be happy. One of the downsides to responsive design is that images will look different based on which device you're viewing it on.

Could we make it possble to search both genre tags? I know we can always filter for one but having the ablity to look for both may help folks find stuff better.

For example, maybe we could have two drop-downs. One for the main genre and one for the second or sub-genre. Like if someone wanted to find an Supernatural/Romance they could just input that into the drop downs and not have to just pick one tag and scroll hoping to find one.

Re: the hashtags pinned in the People's tab - is there a way to make this dynamic? I've noticed a few hashtags that have been popular over the last few days that I would love to just easily check for new posts, and the hashtags listed are somewhat/sort of dead now. Maybe they update weekly or every 24 hours? Just an idea to keep things fresh!

I'm not sure if this is a suggestion or a bug - should posts from clubs now also show up in the count on the front page/UCP activity summary?

@LadySpark ->> The hashtags were dynamic, but they were based on a 30-day window. So, old hashtags could continue to show up even if new ones were more active. Adjusted to a 3-day window with a 7-day backfill if necessary.

@Meshugenah ->> Updated! The forum posts stat on the front page now includes club posts, and the activity tracker will also track club posts going forward.

@MothNBone ->> Unfortunately, that's a bit of a hard fix. I'll take a look it though.

I guess this is a bit of a question - I see when I make a new folder I automatically get a work called "About this Folder" (cool! I assume that's where I'm supposed to put a little blurb about what the folder's about? and then click "publish" if I want it to show up for people to read?)

For old folders, is there a way for that "About this Folder" thing to pop up? Or does a person need to create a new lit work called "About this Folder" to do that? Just trying to figure out the process.

@alliyah ->> Oops! That was a mistake on my end. The "About this folder" is a dummy work, used to help handle commenting on the folders. It gets inserted into the database the first time someone visits a folder overview page. I've disabled it from showing up going forward.

But for the "About this folder" page, the description for the folder comes from the short description you make for it when editing / adding the folder.

i know you won't be doing many more updates!! but within the new messages, i feel like the more "texting" style of the inbox should also come along with perhaps no cooldown between messages or maybe just a shorter cooldown if that's even possible

@romanticchemist ->> Fixed! The cooldown interval is now 3 seconds for private messages.

no more updates, i know, but wouldn't it be a lot more sense for it to continue the current style of "messages" and create a separate "DM" feature like the new chat? i liked the old inbox a lot better because they were more email-like, and feel like they are better for like traditional "information communications" type things, while the chat could just be like regular talking and everyday stuff
