Hey again FarDusk!

if you look too hard
> I like the lines:

they were set there,
not grown there

It makes me think of a contrast between the natural and artificial, showing how the doors really don't belong to the rest of the landscape. Maybe they have no history or have an 'alien' origin.

off twice
This is a really cool poem! It felt like the image of the painting was unfolding with each line and the twist that the whole room is upside down in the end is really impactful. I may be reading too much into this, but I feel like it conveys this sense of how when something is wrong, we may fixate on tiny details that are off, but when we think about them there is a larger problem so "correcting" the small things is almost misleading.

rooted and transient
This poem feels quietly evocative, hinting at a story that isn't spelt outright. My interpretation is that the "you" knew that house once and had some kind of significant history in it. Maybe a friend lived there, or it was their home at some point. But the final stanza constructs how fleeting such important time periods can be, showing how it has been consumed by overgrowth and time and also that the speaker and the "you" drive past it in an instant.

low battery
I like the lines:

the colors seem
to have lost their names,

It makes me think of a greyscale, fuzzy image.

@Liminality thank you so much for another comment!

I love how you interpreted those, I really like leaving extra room for different ways to see things.

rendered wrong

the sidewalk behind was the same
but at my feet was a blur

a crack in the pavement
dragged on in a straight line,
and where the texture
should have shifted
only stretched further
like the grain of wood

rubbing my eyes
didn't make it go away,
it stayed like a drop of water
on a camera lens

I stepped onto it
and there was no sound

I kept walking

I looked up every flight
as if I could go somewhere

interference

it almost started
but it didn't,
the breeze kept flowing—
not quite wind
and it never settled

the trees and grass
all swayed in rhythm
like a looping video

when the breeze
still hadn't decided
a new direction,
the rustling leaves
became a heavy buzz
that followed even when
I hid inside the house

it ended later
too quickly
like an off switch

I looked up every flight
as if I could go somewhere

chrysalism

under a curtain of rain
the neighborhood seems distant,
houses and cars,
shapes softened

the sound of showers
more consistent and comforting
than the lightning—
splitting and roaring

I press my hand
against the glass,
and it stays cold,
like it belongs to the rain

I'm distracting myself
with tv,
knowing I'm fine for now
but feeling like
it could still be me

the window flashes white,
then goes dark
just as suddenly

I looked up every flight
as if I could go somewhere

no need

I saw someone today
driving a rusted pickup,
thought I recognized him
but I didn't really feel
the need to wave,
thankfully, he didn't notice me
and that's fine

I passed by him
watching the road ahead
not thinking to look back

I looked up every flight
as if I could go somewhere

@FarDusk! There's sooo much sense of place in some of these!

under a blue sky,
five miles from nowhere,
flat fields, gentle hills,
the short trees and grass
hold a different side of green

peaceful!

I press my hand
against the glass,
and it stays cold,
like it belongs to the rain

^^ really like this image too!

you should know i am a time traveler &
there is no season as achingly temporary as now

just waiting

I stayed in the car
watching the sprinkles
roll down the windshield

a playground
too still, like an exhibit—
except for the swings
swaying uselessly

a church
just two cars parked outside,
the canopy and entrance
suffused with warm light from the inside
unchanging

waiting until the rain stopped

I looked up every flight
as if I could go somewhere

lag

everything feels
a second late
but then I look away
it changes

taking breaks
doesn't seem to help
its just a smaller delay

it never quite catches up

I looked up every flight
as if I could go somewhere

undelivered

brick houses on a gravel street
the sky feels swallowed up by trees,
the only window
when you stand in the road
and look up

where the gravel meets the real street
mailboxes are supposed to be,
but they weren't,
even the rut in the dirt
from the mail truck

no one walks down the street
to listen to the crunch of gravel

I looked up every flight
as if I could go somewhere

your poetry feels so particular; much of them are revolved in one place, but is able to feel and observe many things beyond that place. this trait of your poetry allows you to lean heavy into imagery, which remains to be so vivid within so little few lines (ex: a playground / too still, like an exhibit— / except for the swings / swaying uselessly), which is splendid!! your poetry is so, so great!!

storm shelter

not enough time
to stop and smell the rain
that had passed

we rushed back
into the house just as quickly
as when we left it
for the storm shelter,
without saying anything

I looked up every flight
as if I could go somewhere

somewhere between aisles

through the left door
not because the sign says so
I remembered from last time

the quiet and stillness floods me
and I close the door quickly
not letting any of it escape

strolling between the wooden shelves
searching for one book
but still reading every title

I didn’t check what time it was
when I left with a book

I looked up every flight
as if I could go somewhere

Congratulations!
