i remember when we used to
drown and blame it
on the waves passing by,
mouth to mouth resuscitation
a few moments too late.

the ocean around us
hasn't dried up yet
and i have been waiting
for another chance to flood
your frameworks -

who knew skeletons don't float

(you didn't.)

Under the radar
Just out of reach
Among the thick woods
A mile from the beach

arguments are best when they're silent.
i pitched this idea
to my college roommates during
the worst heartbreak of my life.

"you see, imagine that
the tinnitus causing ringing
in your ears is like soft swan songs
sang from over the landline.
the television is playing
yesterday's news -
this is your favourite pastime,
sitting idly, waiting & waiting
for someone to speak
and only hearing your own
voice in response."

no one said anything;
they just looked away.

The endless string of summer storms
that led me to today
Began one afternoon with you,
long ago and far away

perfection is difficult to chase,
but it's even harder to find -
i say that as i stare into the mirror,
readjusting my soul, altering it into
wood splinters & torn wallpaper.
all of this fragility is femininity,
the way spines curve and twist
into awkward situations.

i look down at myself
and i don't know what to feel
or if i should feel something at all.

The big orange sun positioned at your back,
lit up your magnificent silhouette.

end of napo reflections & a poorly written haiku

this must be the end;
my bones do not collect dust,
i can breathe again.

You did it!!! Congratulations on making it to 30!

What a perfect note to end on actually! "my bones do not collect dust, i can breathe again" <3 I love that you stayed true to the imagery your gravitate towards throughout the month and I think that made the poems feel layered on top of each other and even more cohesive like part of one big narrative. These were really interesting to read and hopefully I'll have a chance to give a review to a few that you posted in the lit center this May!! <3

Thanks for sharing your poetry this month chi, I sincerely enjoyed reading your poetic voice and experiencing each piece! You're a very talented poet! Congratulations on such a strong NaPo collection. :)
you should know i am a time traveler &
there is no season as achingly temporary as now
but i have promised to return

Owning our story can be hard but not nearly as difficult as spending our lives running from it. Embracing our vulnerabilities is risky but not nearly as dangerous as giving up on love and belonging and joy—the experiences that make us the most vulnerable. Only when we are brave enough to explore the darkness will we discover the infinite power of our light.
— Brené Brown
