As we pull up in front of the beach house I jump out of the car and dart to the door, leaving my bags in the boot for a minute. I can grab them after I say hi to everyone.
It’s been AGES since I’ve talked to everybody and the beach house is something that we’ve been looking forward to all year!
I hear mum let out a laugh from the car behind us and glance backwards watching as Kye slowly pulls himself out of the backseat.
Then suddenly the door opens and a bunch of familiar faces come pouring out. I grin taking everyone in. “Hey,” I say and am almost tackled by several people as I walk through the door, “Oh, wow, hey!”
There’s Ruthie and Geneva and Liz and Ira and even though we just got here it somehow seems like we never left. Everything is just so familiar.
“Oh my god!” I gasp to them , “It’s so good to see you guys again! You all look so great.”
Everyone then seems to move back into the other room, and people are darting around the hallways furiously.
I watch as James walks into another room to catch up with his friends and as Kye slinks off into the kitchen, sketchpad in hand. I cast a worried look in his direction for a moment but he seems not to notice and I decide to leave it for just a little while. If he wants to talk... then he will.
I turn away and look back at the door deciding I’d probably better get my bags out of the car before I miss out on too much of this and grin.
I notice Ira, standing awkwardly at the edge of the room and quickly make my way over to say hi.
He grins as hee notices me and I smile back.
“Hey,” I say, “I gotta go get my bags but you can have my seat, if ya want.”
Another flood of people come into the room then as I dart out to the car to grab my bags and carry them back to the porch.
Then I notice Alec at another car, petting a dog and moving slowly towards the beach house and I grin.
“Hey, Alec,” I wave, hefting my bags up the steps and he looks up.
I can hear laughter coming from the building behind me and I smile.
This is going to be an amazing summer.
