When I woke up, at first I didn't know where I was. The last thing I remembered was climbing in Shane's lap because the lights went out and I got scared, and now I was curled up in a surprisingly warm and comfortable bed. I sat up and looked around. How I'd gotten to my room, I had no idea, but Shane was spread out on the couch, his mouth open and slightly drooling. Awwh. I moved to get out of bed, still wrapped up in Shane's big sweatshirt. It was so warm and comfty, I never wanted to take it off. For a few seconds, I considered waking him up, but decided against it, I'd go get breakfast instead. I left a note on the coffee table beside him and tiptoed out of the room, looking back and smiling.
If I was honest with myself, I would have never expected this relationship, if that's what it was, to escalate so quickly. But I was glad it did. I felt like my life was a clock ticking, and there was no time to waste. Weird, right? But it was true. As I passed the large bay windows, I smiled. The weather looked pleasant enough, even though some grey clouds still hovered on the edges of the blue sky. I reached the canteen and stepped in. It was practically empty, and chefs were almost running behind the counter, getting everything ready for the rush that was sure to come soon.
I wondered faintly what Shane would want, browsing the dishes. "May I help you, miss?" said a chef, his big red face holding a smile.
"I'm just looking..." I said, quietly, avoiding contact. Overly friendly people made me nervous. I finally decided on pancakes, since everyone loves pancakes... Right?
Returning to my room, I set the plates down on the little table, and then waited for their aroma to wake up Shane, who was already stirring. As I looked down at his sleeping form, I smiled. I felt like I could trust him, felt like he'd protect me. That felt nice. Protection. The thing I'd always craved and never received. Maybe now was the time for me to be happy.
He sat up and rubbed his eyes, not unlike a child, and I grinned at him. "Morning, Sleepy head! You hungry?"
He nodded mutely and stood up and moved towards me, sleep film still clouding his eyes. He bent down and kissed my forehead, then sat down across from me, digging into the pancakes. I dug in too, trying to ignore my stomach--which was doing flipflops from the feel of his lips against my skin.
Today was going to be a good day.
Spoiler
Hey Nike-- hope you don't mind, I moved us to the next day. I figured there was little else we could do on that day, with the power being out and all. Plus, added a little fluff cause I was in the mood. Hope he likes pancakes! xx Sparkles. (if I need to change anything let me know!
