Erina

Erina sprinted across the roof of the tavern. After the success with Mercury, she decided, after some extreme arguing with herself, to go back and find Kirby. He should be just waking up, hopefully nobody robbed him. She decided that it was time, after so many year, to tell him how she felt. She cared for him, so much. She missed him. She needed him.

Erina stopped right below where Kirby was sitting. She jumped down and examined him. Nothing looks stolen and he appears to be alright aside fro the bump where Erina decked him.

"Uh...um." Kirby stirred and his cinnamon brown eyes gazed up at her.

"Hi Kirby."

Nemesis breathed ice on my neck, causing the hairs on the back of it to rise. Master, she sees that you're furious. Also, we have an artifical bird coming.
I knew who it was from even before the bird landed. Get rid of it. If Mercury wants my forgiveness, he'll have to ask me in my face. I've had countless cold dinners and it's Mercury's fault that I don't get to at least have dinner before duty. The only time I ever get a hot dinner is on the birthdays of each one of my children and my own birthday. Mercury's so much mad, he doesn't even stop and think about the time he steals me away. I've had it. While Nemesis left to get rid of the mechanical bird, I let the country girl in. I tried my hardest to calm down. "Forgive me for appearing in a foul mood. My own employer pulled me out of the house when I was about to have dinner with my children. I've been coming home to a cold dinner more times than I'd like to remember or count. My children right now are in bed, so you might want to be a little soft on your voice around this time of night."
The girl walked around in the kitchen, probably to put the cider somewhere. "It's quite a place you have here. How are you keeping this house going without a wife to watch the kids?"
I chuckled. "I once had a wife, but divorced her when she wouldn't allow children like Deliah in the house. Deliah's my first adoptive daughter before I was married. After the divorce, I began adopting more children like Deliah to bring a little life in the house. I'm not a blood father, just an adopted father." I felt a cold breeze on my neck. Is it gone?
Nemesis perched on my shoulder as the size of a falcon. Yes, Master. I also dropped a small ice cube on Mercury's head for a good measure. That should tell him to personally ask for forgiveness. I wanted to be sure he knows who he was dealing with.
Well done, my aquatic drake. I sat down at the table. "In case you're wondering why I'm not sleeping at this time, I don't sleep when I'm angry." I interlocked my fingers. "I know you haven't started, but I was thinking of increasing your pay. When you mentioned cider, I almost thought of my mother's cider. When she was alive, she made the best cider in the house. After just one swallow, you'd only want more than the cup you got. When she makes her cider, it just breaks your heart after the first sip. Always making it around the clock, my mother was."

"You are a strange man, Mr. Darkrai. Not that that's a bad thing or anything," she says,"Just how much extra are ya will in' to pay me anyway? And you should know, not all I brew is plain cider. Sometimes, I'll mix it into alcohol, or say a little healin' spell over it," she says, finally setting the jars down on the counter, "Don't worry about this batch, it's to early for alcohol; takes time ta' brew. However, I could say a small little prayer over it if ya'd like. I won't even charge for it," she adds. She then looks him over, "If it'd make you feel better, I could probably whip ya up somethin' to eat right now. It'd be hot, but I don't think I wan't to go wake up the kids." Sir, what you need is a ladie's touch, she thinks, And I am most certainly not the girl to do it. But since yer gunna pay me, I need you healthy, which means you need to get inta bed, and start gettin' to sleep. The example to your kids of stayin' up late ain't great either. And cold meals give people the runs, like that one time Pa stayed out to long in the orchard. Next day he couldn't go outside. Besides, if you're to tired, you won't be able ta do yer job.

She looked around the kitchen for things she could use to bake with, just in case Morgan said yes. "I bet Mercury's gunna kill me fer being so late," she mumbles, "Alright, flour, sugar, water, eggs, cinnamon, it'll do." She reaches into her bag and pulls out a few bruised up apples and groans. "Now is that anyway ta' show yourselves? Y'all should be 'shamed a yerselves, lookin' like so many bruised pears. Ya hear me? Pears are proud a bruises. You a pear?" she asks them. Immediately they looked like fine quality apples. "Thought not," she says, turning to Morgan, "So, what'll it be, sir."

I looked at Nemesis with my eyes. In the mood for something sweet?
Nemesis nodded. An apple pie would be the thing to cheer you up. Your mother always made apple pie to settle your feelings.
I returned my gaze to my houseguest. "An apple pie if you can make it. My mother once cut a slice of apple pie for me whenever I was upset or broken up. After a slice of apple pie, I would feel much better."
The girl went to work like a bee in a hive.
I chuckled. "And yes, I am a strange man, but it's not half of what I am. I have a childhood friend with me. Nemesis, show yourself."
The girl gasped at the sight of Nemesis.
I chuckled again. "Don't worry, my friend. She's harmless unless you provoke her. She's my dragon spirit, one I can control. Only I can see through her invisibility and speak with her with my mind. It's how we communicate with each other."
Look down and show some mercy if you can.

A dragon. My boss has a dragon. Best not screw up then, might not like what happens next. I threw the pie in the oven and sat against it. "Well, as long as she's not lookin' in places she shouldn't, and not burnin er freezin' my trees, then we'll have no problem," I said, looking at a clock in the corner. "Mr. Darkrai, can you write me a note to a man named Mercury. I'm kinda really late to seein' him, and I think that if I get some proof as ta where I been all this time, he'll let me off without a zap." I sigh, touching the spot where he last zapped me. I couldn't heal burn scars, I hope he couldn't see.

The apple pie was ready, so I took it out of the oven and set it on the counter. I shook my fingers, having burnt them a bit, and then grabbed the healing powder I had taken out of my bag earlier. I shook it onto the pie, and then cut it into 8 slices, hoping that it'd be enough. "Another thing, what's a Bladesmith doin' with apple trees anyway?" I ask, setting the apple pie down in front of him. "Don't have nothin' to put a nice little doohicky on top, sorry," she adds, turning and cleaning up after him.

Mercury / On a Walk

It had been quite a day, of course now Morgan was angry. But two more recruits was certainly something to smile at. I decide to take a walk, the breeze of a cool summer night greeted me as I strolled through the double doors of headquarters.

I walk for an hour around town, seeing people and things. Even though it was late in the evening, many people still walked about doing errands. I heard someone talk of the kings son, not wanting to take the crown.

That will certainly add to his pile of bad things, and heap to our pile of good things won't it...

I saw faces in the night that I hadn't seen in some time, I remembered them all of course. But I couldn't fathom that they remembered mine as well. Since the death of my parents, I had become the shadow of the town. Everyone saw me, but nobody saw me. It made running errands very easy, no one to slow me down with socialization.

After a while of pleasant silence, I felt something hit me on the head.

"... The Hell was that?!?!" I yell,an icecube was on the ground. I was hit by an ice cube! Looking around; I saw nothing, but perhaps I was mad, but I could almost hear sound of wings flapping.

I look to the ground, and there laying slaughtered and torn apart. My little metal bird, still clutching it's tiny slip of paper in it's talons.

That bastard is so ignorant some times

... but then again, he'll not be in a happy mood as he was ripped from yet another warm dinner with his family.

But at least he has a family

A single tear falls to the ground, I realize what's happening. And wipe my face.

"No, this isn't a time to feel sorry for yourself Mercury. Morgan deserves a proper apology." I say aloud.

I walk slowly through town, it takes me ten minutes to reach Morgan's cottage. I'm close to the door, I can see inside one of the windows. Morgan sits at a table, a sullen look upon his face. An apple pie is given to him. I raise my hand to knock on the door, but then think better of it.

"No, Morgan won't be pulled from another warm supper. Ever again..." I say, and turn back. Heading back towards headquarters.

I set a slice on a plate and put it in front of Nemesis after taking a slice myself. "Nemesis is a water dragon, so she freezes things. However, she doesn't leave my side unless I command her to. As far as I can tell, she won't be sticking her snout into anyone's business but mine." I took a bite with a fork, savoring the warmth on my tongue. The sweet taste of apples and cinnamon, blended together like a perfect marriage. Just like my mother used to make. A smile escapes my lips. "As for a bladesmith like myself having an apple tree, I wanted to try my hand at making my mother's cider. It's a little hard to attempt it, considering that I work from the hour after I finish breakfast to the hour before I have dinner." I watched Nemesis consume her piece greedily. "As for Mercury, I'll be sure he'll get the message along with an enermous complaint from me personally."
The girl raised her brow. "What happened?"
Nemesis answered, My Master is furious of Mercury. The mad-striken young man pulled my Master from a hot supper for what might or might not be the last time and he's furious that he had to come home to a cold supper. When will the young man ever think of my Master's precious time with his family, even I don't know.
The girl looked at me. "Master? Did she call you her master?"
I nodded as I finished my piece of pie. "She's called me her Master since I named her. When a spirit is named, he or she is bound to the namer for life. Nemesis was with me since I was a child, but I never got used to her until I was twelve. I didn't name her until I was twenty-one." I stroked Nemesis' scales. "Since then, she and I have been inseperable."
Look down and show some mercy if you can.
Look down, look down, upon your fellow man.

Theo

~Theo sat by himself, alone, his head proped up by his hands. Erina and Tara had braught him and the other girl, Lilith, to the Resistance leader. If he had known they were going straight here, he would have ditched them. He rubbed his face in his hands.

When he stopped he took out his dampener. Great, now it's green. He rolled his eyes. It had dipped in the orange/yellow faze right before they entered the Resistance Leaders office. He remembered how close he felt to bursting when he realized where he was. It was all he could do not to kill everyone in the room.

Theo grimaced. When Mercury shocked him, he nerarly felt his own power retaliate. Thank goodness it didn't. He didn't need enemies. Theo sighed. But he was probably gonna get some soon any way.

He had to leave. He had to leave the Resistance, leave town, heck, maybe he could leave the country. Everyone knew bout the Resistance, if just rumors, and obvioiusly the king would probably have someone here as a spy. He'd punish everyone involved.

Including Theo.

Theo put his dampener back in his pocket and pulled out his sisters locket. Amaya had died for him, and he would make sure that he wouldn't waste her sacrifice. He stood up, returning the locket to it's place.

He was about to turn the corner when he hit someone. Recovering quickly, he looked and saw it was Tara again.

"You seriously got to watch where you're going." She said, rubbing her forehead, laughing a little.

Theo stood up quickly and kept walking.

"Hey, where are you going?" She called after him.

He didn't look back. He had to leave, no delays.~

Mercury / On his way back to the Hideout

I walked away from Morgan's house slowly, deliberately, so that I could spend as much time away from work as possible. I couldn't take a whole lot more.

Then an invisible force knocked me to the ground.

"Jesus! Watch it!" I yell.

I look up from the ground, the young recruit from earlier.

"Ah! Theo! How's it going buddy?" I say, he moves past me and keeps walking.

Sorry for disappearing again! Finally home from the family road trip.

Kirby

When Kirby came to, he pulled himself into a sitting position without thinking about it. There was a dull throbbing in the side of his head, and he was so dizzy that the world blurred in and out of focus at random.

Then someone dropped from the rooftops and landed next to him, and his vision seemed to clear. His thoughts were still fuzzy, though, and as he stared at the newcomer, he wondered if he was still unconscious. "Uh...um." He had no idea what to say.

"Hi Kirby," Erina said, sitting down next to him. "How's your head?"

"Hard to tell," Kirby replied, turning to face her. His speech was slow, but his mind was racing. Erina? Wait a minute. She just clocked me. What's she doing here? What am I supposed to say? "How's yours?" What?! Don't say that! You're an idiot! "I mean...ah...I'm sorry about...I wasn't going to--"

Kirby forced himself to stop, and to take a deep breath. He got so nervous talking to Erina, so nervous that he could barely think straight. "I wasn't going to tell the guards where you were," he said, struggling to keep his voice steady. "Or anyone else. I would never..." Kirby trailed off, and just stared at Erina. Her blue eyes were almost hypnotic, even brighter than the blue of the sky...

Erina

Erina laughed softly when Kirby asked her about her head. She just beat the daylight out of him and he is concerned weather or not she is hurt. That's Kirby for you, she thought.

Kirby spoke with somewhat of a studded, "I mean...ah...I'm sorry about...I wasn't going to--" he toke in several deep breaths, "I wasn't going to tell the guards where you were, or anyone else. I would never..." He stopped and stared at her. Erina smiled as she got lost in his cinnamon brown eyes. Erina didn't know what came over her after that. Maybe the danger that she has faced as of late or maybe it was the possibility of capture and death in less than a month or maybe it was just some kind of combination she didn't know. But, she cupped his face in her hands, closed her eyes and kissed him. She kissed him with passion, with love and he kissed her back.

When they pulled apart Erina looked into those brown eyes again, "Kirby, I really care about you and I want you to trust me. I want you to leave everything behind and come with me to the resistance. Please Kirby, have faith and come with me." Erina stretched her hand out and waited for a response

"That's, uhh, very nice sir," she says, finishing up the dishes that weren't being used, "I really should be a-goin'. I have to go see the desk mast,- er Mercury now, or else I'ma be shocked right outa my boots," she says, a little worried. She begins gathering her things, looking around to see if she missed anything. "I got this, and that, oh, almost forgot the spices," she mumbles to herself, grabbing the small container of spices she had gotten out for the pie.

"And unless you were plannin' on coming to my nightjob with me to tell Mercury where I've been yerself, you really should write that note, sir," she adds, slinging her sack back over her shoulder and standing by the door, "Before I go, was there a reason yer first wife didn't like yer little one. I don't mean ta pry in someone else's business, but it just seems a little... off ta me."

Morgan Darkrai | His cottage

I sighed. I was hoping to avoid that question completely. When Mercury asked me that question, Nemesis created a blizzard in his office while I was half way back to my cottage. At first, Nemesis was about to do the same to my departing guest, but I silently commanded her to keep to herself. I gave the little farm girl my word and didn't want to make her think I lied between my teeth. I had no choice but to answer the question.
Getting out of my seat by the table, I had Nemesis perch on my shoulder. "My marriage only lasted several hours. Before I could properly complete my marriage, I told my wife I adopted an Abnormal girl because I wanted to know how it felt to be a father. My wife refused to let Deliah - the first Abnormal I adopted in my life - under my roof because she considered Deliah a freak of nature and an abomination that shouldn't be alive. The arguement lasted up until sundown, but I still insisted on letting Deliah stay under my roof. After my wife slapped me across the face in front of Deliah, I pushed my now-ex-wife out the door and told her that she was no longer welcome in my house. Deliah was my daughter and I wouldn't leave her on the orders of anyone. I've been a divorced bachelor to this day and still adopting as many Abnormals I could find."
Nemesis wrapped her tail around my neck gently. She never liked the poor thing. Master's former wife didn't like his adoptive hatchling at all. After the divorce, Master's been more close to every Abnormal he took in.
I stroked her tail. "Nemesis was always on my side. Ever since the divorce, I was more with Deliah and the other Abnormals during the day and going against the Crown at night. Nemesis goes with me everywhere, so there's no possible way I can get caught. I've been in the Resistance for a few years and the Crown has never caught me." I chuckled. "I haven't been caught and want to keep it that way."
Look down and show some mercy if you can.

I couldn't help it, I laughed, "If I didn't know better, I'd say you were married to the dragon. And I've seen worse magicians than abnormals. Kickin' a kid to th' ground cause they don't make ya feel goo ought to get YOU kicked to th' ground harder. Night Mr. Darkrai, see ya' t'mmorrow," I said, exitting. Okay, time to get to Mercury's office. Inwardly I shivered, Mercury wasn't always the most forgiving of people, which was a nice way of saying he wasn't certifiably crazy and had a tendency to shock and punish.

I stood in front of the door awkwardly, trying to compose myself. Okay, you're going to go in there and tell the truth. You can't lie worth a copper anyway, so you don't really have a choice. I was at Morgan's house; he was angry, I fed him an apple pie, we chatted, I left. That's why I'm late. I could feel the shock coming. It didn't really scare me, I just like to avoid that discomfort; I had to the next day. I sighed, pushed open the door, and trudged to Mercury's office.

Mercury/ In his office

I walk back home to the hideout after the incident with Theo, who had been very rude and knocked me to the ground. There was a lump on my head, I rubbed it slowly. I walk through the doors just after a Rebel Couple walked out. Presumably going for a midnight stroll just as I had. They were no older than eighteen as far as I could tell. They stared into each other's eyes without care.

Young love is so beautiful, I really wish I could find someone. A twenty-three year old man should be a bachelor, and of course I'm insane. But why not give me something to love? I'm capable of love, and compassion. I'm forgiving when someone deserves it, and I'm usually a good person. Or at least I'm an okay person

I shake my head and leave my personal monologue for another time. Sitting at my desk brought me a comfortable chair, and to my suprise, a coffee!

I knew it, they do love me...

I'm about to sit down when A person passes through the doors and steps over to my office, the young Gwendolyn. Well, younger than me anyway. By a year, a beautiful girl. A hard worker, I really need to be less harsh on her now that I think about it.

"H-hello Mercury," she says, nervous.

"Gwen, it's been a while." I say.

"Oh please don't zap me again sir, I'm so sorry I've been late! I was helping the Metal Master at his home!" she blurts, I can tell she's nervous.

I move toward her,

"Oh Gwen, I'm so very sorry." I say, remembering being harsher than I wanted to be with her the last time I saw her. I was in a fit of irritation, it was an accident in all my rights.

I move forward and hug her, she tenses up. I'm a bit taller than her, so I can't see her face.I don't know if what's she's feeling.

"I'm sorry for the way I treated you, I know you've been helping Morgan. It's all very good, there's no reason to be nervous." I'm still hugging her. So far she hasn't moved away, I wait for her response.
