So... I can not speak for Eivery, but I think that she might be studying or something... She had told me that study is important to her, and did not even read my last pm, so I just thought that I should inform that this is the reason she might not be here right now. I can only guess.

And DragonGirl... You hate horror movies? You perplex me.

Age: 19 (20 in less than a month!)
Favorite Color: Purple/Lavender
Favorite Genre: Romance, YA
Favorite Book(s): Harry Potter. Nuf said.
Favorite Author: JK Rowling
Blurb from your novel: It's a story about a first great love and a first great loss. That's all I'll say :)
A Paragraph About Yourself: I'm a college student studying psychology. I love to read, write, knit, play music (trombone, piano, guitar, ukulele), and I've recently taught myself how to sew. Over the last year I have really committed myself to dreaming big and manifesting my dreams so I finished the first draft of my novel, edited the scary, terrible thing and re-wrote the whole thing. Now I've reached the scary part of letting other people read it. I'm a huge Harry Potter nerd. And I love Christina Perri with all of my heart.
Available as a mentor/apprentice?: mentor! I love to encourage people and I would love to help someone make their dreams come true! If you want to know more about me or are interested in being my apprentice please PM me. I'd be happy to chat with you! :)

A Paragraph About Yourself I'm a nerd, and aspiring artist who lives in California. I love cartoons, books, music, and video games. I'd love to make any one of those things, but for now, I've chosen to work on a book. I enjoy a wide variety of genres of each thing. My favorite genre of music is "metal", and my favorite genre of video games is "RPG". As for cartoons, I like funny/cutesy stuff.
And uh, that's about it. d(o_od)

I've been out of commission for awhile, sorry. This has been an extremely busy couple of weeks. By at least Sunday, I'll be back in action. For now, how about we play a game? Write a scene where your main character finds a copy of your manuscript.

How would he change it to make his life easier?

Would he like it?

What happens when he tries to return it to you?
Review unto others as you would have others review unto you.

Don't panic!

Also, Shino!

Hey I'm up for this! I've got the same problem Shino! I'm trying to finish a story by the end of the summer or bust, but we'll see... I mean, I WILL. Yes. Definitely.

Is there some kind of official group we can join, or just this thread?

(It's a rather large blurb...)
A Paragraph About Yourself: About me.. hmmm.... I like to write, I'm in college studying to be a teacher (and writer at the same time), I come up with stories all the time (a blessing and a curse) and I haven't finished one since 5th grade. So.
I like to write fantasy or superhero stories, and usually my characters have sad, dramatic things happen to them (or maybe it just seems that way to me.) I also have a bad habit of naming characters names that start with either "r" or "e". I live in the only place in the continental U.S. where you are north of Canada.
Availability: well, I could really be either. Or both.

And if my character found a copy of my manuscript, at this point in time, he would probably re-write it. He wouldn't appreciate it at all...

So, as I was a little bored and wanted to do something, I wrote that assignment you (Shino) thought up. It was written on my phone, and was not revised, so please forgive any mistakes. I did it for fun mostly, which it certainly was. :)

Anyway, here it is, although I should warn you, I did bring in an element of horror into it.

Spoiler
Tyrone closed the heavy wooden doors behind him, his eyes not yet adjusted to the darkness which consumed him. His hand searched for a light switch, and found it. He squinted as the bring flourescent lamps began to flicker on the white ceiling, an unsteady stream of electricity stimulating their luminescence, before finally stabilizing to provide a reasonably steady source of illumination.
His hand went up to his chin reflexively, and he licked his lips with a few quick motions of the tongue. There was no furniture within the room aside from a a seemingly old wooden altar which was positioned within the room, a dust-covered book resting in its grip. Fat, glossy worms lay on its open surface, their forms moving with what would have appeared to be excruciating spasms of primitive pain.
Tyrone turned around, frightened by the visage. Could the man outside have intentionally given him incorrect directions? Whatever was the cause, he had seen something that was probably never meant for his mortal eyes. He knew that he had to escape. He could stay no longer in this abhorrant mansion.
Turning to leave, he turned the knob, only to discover it immovable. A sudden panic overcame him, and he began to twist at the thing frantically, using all of his strength to attempt and open the passage. Alas, his efforts were in vain.
After a minute of attacking the door, he turned back towards the altar, and the book that lay upon it. The worms remained restless in their struggle.
"What the fu€¥ is this?" He whispered, gripping his face with his left hand.
After five minutes of contemplation, he approached the loatsome thing, and wiped the worms away with a trembling hand, cursing relentlessly as he did so. Shaking, he began to read.
Uncounted hours have passed before he finished, perhaps days, though he was unsure. Perhaps years. The book contained his past, described in detail within its worm-eaten pages, but also outlined his future. He saw how the thing, thousands of years old, would be transferred into him, how he would kill, die, and live again. He saw how he was betrayed by those who claimed to wish to help him, and how those he thought to be his enemies attempted to save him. He learned of how the thing within his mind was stopped from growing, how he himself was doomed, how he had learned that there was no cure and began attempting suicide. Those suicide attempts could not succeed, for he by that time had become immortal, made so by the thing within him. And all throughout the future, a blood-drinking fiend pursued him, crazed for the power of the thing within him, the thing which would struggle for control until its temporary imprisonment within a world of its own creation.
He saw all that, and vomited onto the worms crawling on the floor.
As he looked up, sickened from fear, a pen lay on the pages, inviting him to change his life. He picked it up, his hand shaking uncontrollably, his jaw tightly shut, and began to write as steadily as he could.
He wrote of how the thing which will be within him was too weak to draw attention, too weak to even pose a challenge. He wrote of how he would sense those who attempted to deceive it, and make them slaves for his cause. He wrote of how he would survive and be immortal willingly.
Dropping the pen, he stepped back, on the verge of losing consciousness. He closed his eyes, and as he opened them, a boy of seventeen stood there before him, the hint of a smile noticable on his face. He wore a black cloak made out of a heavy material which enveloped his tall but surprisingly thin figure. His hair was darkly blond, his eyes a tired blue.
"You have done well." The words were not spoken, but Tyrone was aware of them. "You are yet awake. Mayhap you are fit indeed to be my main character."
"What the fu€¥ are you? Goddamn sonofabi$£€..." The words replayed themselves in his mind, his mouth too tense to open, but he knew that he was heard.
"I am thyself, if thou haven't figured it out yet. I have made this world, and you with it, in my own image." The boy laughed slightly, covering his mouth with a gloved hand.
A moment of confusion overcame Tyrone, and he sae that his vision was fading rapidly, a deep blackness growing around his sight.
"Will my future change?" He asked, realizing that consciousnes would soon leave him.
"Your changes, you mean? I saw what you wrote, and I will consider it." He observed a hand reaching towards him, and stepped back. "You must attend the party, now. the Illuminatirion is waiting for you restlessly."
As he continued to move backwards, away from the entity before him, he passed through an open portal, and realized that the door had been opened. His vision left him completely upon leaving, and his mind began to fade.
"I have created you in my own image, and know that, wherever you are, I will be laughing at your misfortune..." The voice faded with his own consciousness, and he remembered no more.

Tyrone passed through the doorway, as instructed by the stranger, and entered the spacious hall where he was to be fed the thing which would be in him.

By the way, I forgot to mention: Tyrone is supposed to be myself, in a way. He is older etc. but I have attempted to make him a little similar to myself. I hope that there is no Mary Sue effect in there :D

Hello!

I just wish to note that @katiehorsie shared an interesting link on the Wall and I though that this might help people here.

Writeordie, it is called, and although I am yet to see whether it can be used for free, it certainly sounds interesting, aimed at helping people to continue writing.

Write or Die is well known among word-warrers. It is also a NaNoWriMo favorite. I myself used it a couple of times to help boost my wordcount. And yes, the online version of it is free.

And please help. I've written up plot outlines, but I haven't written a single word of actual story in ages. Arrrrgh! It's so frustratingly horrid!

Okay, I have a problem and I thought you guys might be able to help!!

I think one of the main problems with my story, and why it's going so slowly, is I am having trouble defining the character/characteristics of my FMC. I just can't pin her down!! Without her, I can't really get the story to move forward, so... any suggestions? Help!

Hey Starhunter, one thing you could try is filling out a character profile (there are a million different templates if you search online), to try to get to know her a little better. Once you know her better you can think about how she works within the plot.

One super important thing to remember though is that it doesn't have to be perfect. This is your first draft. The more you write the more you'll understand her and more of her can come out in later drafts.

When I wrote the first draft of my novel I didn't fully understand all of my characters yet and I didn't even have a firm grasp of how I was going to end the thing and make it a worthwhile story. These things came to me, and still come to me now that I am in the editing process.
