There was a way out! Grocery bags don't just appear in the middle of the night. Sarah was sort of relieved at this. She knew there was water enough, but a food source would keep them alive, if only they could access it. How did they get out? Or were they just here for the first time? Sarah couldn't see the person past Ranger, who had started towards them, so she couldn't tell if they were someone she had seen before, or if they were a total stranger and would be frightened off at the mention of kidnappers. Another thought hit Sarah hard, and she made a mental note to bang her head against the wall the next time she could. What if they were one of the kidnappers? What if it was a trap?

Catch

My jaw couldn't drop any lower. This chick was amazing. "W-wow. That was... awesome."

I couldn't see her face from where I was, but I could tell she wasn't flattered. "Thanks," she waved her hand anxiously. "But, seriously, we have one minute until this thing crashes, take my hand."

"You don't have to tell me twice," I proclaimed. I paused, scratching my head. "Well... technically, you did, but..."

"Catch!" Sunny and Taylor cried in unison. Taylor grabbed Sunny's hand and she was pulled up. I did the same.

"Huh. So this is what a elevator shaft looks like."

"Catch, I appreciate your curiosity, but please, shut up." Sunny sighed.

Toby-

I walked along the corridor alone. No one was anywhere to be seen. I didn't know where Ranger was, which is who I was supposed to be with, and I couldn't even find my room. Number 6. I wandered over to the elevator to go down to the lobby.
I press the button and wait anxiously. Hm, hm ahem, hm, hmmmmmmm, geez, it's taking a while.
I give up on it, it's completely useless, it isn't coming. I turn to go but I can hear voices, coming from upwards.
I raise an eyebrow and smile cheekily.
Oh yeah!
I run towards the stairs, and start sprinting up. I'm on level 10 when I start feeling it. My legs feel on fire and I have to stop. I look down at my legs.
"Holy Shitaki Mushrooms, nooooot good!!"
Fire.
Flicking and spitting up at my legs, coming from below. I still hear talking way upstairs, they haven't got hit by the fire. But downstairs, I can hear shrieking and yelling. I can't go down.
So up I go.
Up, up, up.
Level 30.
Up, fire is at level 25, up.
Level 50
Up, legs are hurting, can't go further.
Level 70.
Bloody hell, fire is up me.
Level 85, level 88, level 89, level 90.
The voices are just above me, level 91.
I reach it. The voices are just near me but I can't make them out.
They stop.
I look down the stairs, the fire is on level 85.
I run to the lift. The voices are coming from there. I press the button and the elevator starts coming up to me. I hear shrieking and cursing from inside the shaft.
Someone's in there...

Catch pulls me up into the elevator shaft. "You are so much lighter than Sunny, why did we not let you kick a hole through the roof?" Catch jokes.

"Cause Taylor's heels would have stabbed a hole through your palm." Sunny said. Catch looks down at my feet. "I know you want that through your hand." She says.

"Can we please stop? I want to get out of here. We found a ledge to stand on. It is a thin pipe. "Is it just me or is that moving." I look down.

"Someone is on the elevator." Catch says. "We have to get out of here now, or we are going to get crushed." He says.

"Well if I am going to die, I do not want to die in pain." I say taking off my shoes. "These stupid Taylor’s really hurt my feet." I say trying not to cry. "This is just a horrible way to go out." I say. “I swing the heels around in my hand looking at the name Taylor coming up the side.”That’s it." I say.

"What’s it." Catch and Sunny say.

"I can throw the shoes into the elevator and get the person inside to stop. They will know it is me. I mean no one here has these." I say. The others just shrug their shoulders.

"It is worth a try." Sunny says. I take off the first shoe and throw it. It lands right on the top, but does not fall in the hole. “Come on Taylor. You have one more." I Sunny cheers. I throw the other one down and it falls right in the hole. "Thank God for shoes."

"Thank God for Taylor." Catch says. The elevator stops. "Nice plan."

"It pays off being a girl." I say. I try to peak and see who is in the elevator but I can not. I lean in closer. My feet start to wobble. I try to swing my arms to keep my balance. "Taylor." Catch screams as I fall. They are both screaming so loud.

I can hear a bone crack as I smack in to the elevator. There is a horrible pain in my back. I feel in such a weird way that my feet are hanging my upside down. My hair swings back and forth.

The elevator door opens again and a person comes in. I can not tell who it is. "Taylor! What the hell?" Toby screams. He pulls me down to the ground. My eyes are getting heavy and my back feels like it is snapped in two. "Taylor stay with me." He screams.

"Toby my back hurts and I lost my shoes." I try to say. "Please help me. If you go to get help, please come back this time." I say. Tears will not stop rolling down my face.

Lexi

I watch the screen and see Taylor fall and break her back. "Really Steven? I swear to God. You are good for nothing." I say out loud. There is no one in the room, so I am kinda talking to myself. "I am loosing it." I say. " I am having writers block that will not go away and my boy friend is stupid as crap."

"Who is stupid as crap?" Steven says walking in the door with a donut in his mouth.

"Taylor." I say. What he does not know will not hurt him. "Honey, we need to be in one place. Not all over the whole apartment complex." I try to say sweetly. "We want them to write a story for me and they can not do that if they are all over the place, can they?" I ask.

"No Lexi." He says. "Hey, do you want a donut?" He asks.

"No thank." I say. I am about to loose my temper. "Why don't you go give one to Ranger and find a doctor for Taylor. Okay?"

"That is a really good idea." He says. "She is going to need a doctor. I heard she lost her shoes." He says. He gets up and walks out.

"Oh my God. He is stupid." I say.

Tobes-

I look at Taylor, she is crying.
"Taylor, I can't get help. There's a fire, and it's climbing the tower. It's three levels away. We can't use the lift anymore, we can't take the stairs. We're stuck."
Taylor smiles.
I'm surprised, but Taylor's a little warrior, so I get over it.
"What?" I ask confused.
"You can go,"she says.
I don't know what she means. Go where? How?
"What do you mean?"
She's lying on her back as the elevator stops.
I help Taylor up but she refuses.
"Come on!" I order her, for her sake.
"Catch and sunny, they're up there," she says and points to a whole in the roof of the elevator.
I look up. Who's Catch?
I jump up and my head just reaches the whole. I putstretch my arms and grip the sides of the whole. The metal roof cuts into my skin. I lift myself up the shaft and see two bright eyed people. I recognise Sunny, so the other one must be "Catch".
"Toby!" exclaims Sunny.
"Hey Sunny. And you must be...Catch?" I ask holding out a hand to shake.
Catch takes it and shakes it vigorously.
"Nice ta' meet ya' Toby."
"Touching," cuts in Sunny."But this isn't the time for a meet and greet."
I smile, and let go of Catch's hand.
"After you," I say to Sunny, and point my hand to the hole. She get's her way to the hole and grabsmy hand. I help her down. She looks up and nods.
"Your turn Catch."
Catch grabs my hands and gets himself down.
I wait for them to get Taylor out of the elevator and make sure it's safe before jumping down.
I look at everyone. I start feeling dizzy and fall over. Everyone rushes to help but my elbows pressed the button 8 when I wobbled. The doors close and shake myself back to reality.
I see Taylor cring, Sunny frantically pressing the button and Catch looking shocked and scared. Taylr never answered my question.
The doors close and I start moving down.
I look around to see if there's a way out. I see the hole in the roof and am about to try it when I catch a glimpse at a sign in red on the wall.

DO NOT USE ELEVATOR IN CASE OF FIRE

I can smell the smoke already. It smells like death.

Taylor, Catch and Sunny, I had the idea you guys jump from a balcony off one of the rooms on level 91, because there's no other way. But you live-somehow. I'm thinking of linking it to the Agency (maybe they keep you alive because they need you). Anyway's, keep up the great work!

I'm eighteen and ready to live on my own now. After a year working at the Chicago Tribune, I saved up enough money to live in the best apartments yet! The Royal YWS Apartments. I couldn't wait.

Slipping into the yellow taxi in my quiet suburb, I smiled at the cabbie driver. He seemed nice enough, smiling back as asking for where to go.

"The Royal YWS Apartments," I replied.

He clicked the money counter, I never knew what it was called. His blond hair reminded me of the bright sun that stood in the morning light, but now the moon was becoming present.

As we headed off down the street, he stopped at the stop sign, a little pulse making my head hit the seat lightly.

"Wait, did you say the Royal YWS Apartments...?" He had a slight accent, probably New Yorken.

"Uh, yes..." I said, a bit skeptical.

"That building is on fire m'am."

With my heart racing, my mind spun in circles. The building was on fire? What? How did that happen?!

"Only the first floor though, nothing to worry about. The fire department should be taking care of that."

Taking a left, I looked out my window and saw the highway stretch across from me, all the cars swerving the street. Lights passed us, the dark sky illuminated with stars.

An hour slipped past, I almost fell asleep in my seat until the driver spoke up again.

"You probably can't go though, I'll send you to a new hotel until it's safe." he suggested.

"Which one?"

"Hilton is the only one near us..."

With a sigh, I new I wouldn't be able to pay off a Hilton stay and pay for my apartment. I would be broke by the time The Royal opens up again.

"Are you sure there isn't even a Motel 6 somewhere? I can't go to the Hilton," I said.

Another turn right, and I saw The Royal YWS Apartments in flames. The first floor only though, like the driver said. It was horrible. Ambulances stood around the beautiful building, sky high and higher. The buildings around it looked like ants compared to it.

Police cars and firetrucks were near, people surrounding them, ready to save the day. But somehow, they didn't bother. Just stood there, watching it.

"Why aren't they helping?" I asked, my face plastered to the window.

We were in a jam, not able to move with all the police around us.

"Probably can't. So, The Hilton or back home?"

My house was an hour away. I couldn't possibly go back.

"The other floors aren't on fire, I could go on them." I suggested feeling a bit of hope grow.

"Highly doubt it,"

All the driver could do was move one inch because of the cluster of emergency forces.

"Hilton then," I rolled my eyes.

That's it, we were on our way to the most expensive hotel I've heard of in this area. Just when I decide to move to the apartment it had to go up in flames and none of the people or even helping them.

Now that sucks. I'm sorry for those victims in the building, most of them dead probably because of the fire. But since the building is sky high, more than them would be alive.

I hope they're okay.

Sunny

Okay, Sunny, don't panic. It's just an elevator. You may be falling into the flaming lower half of a creepy, messed-up apartment complex, but don't panic. You've seen worse.

"Guys, we have to get out of here," I said, surprised at how steady my voice sounded. "If someone gives me a boost, I can climb onto the roof of the elevator and pull everyone else out. Then we can climb up the elevator cables to a floor that isn't burning. Okay?"

"Yeah, sure, whatever gets us out of here," Catch replied. He crouched down and cupped his hands to give me a foothold.

"Okay," I said. "One, two, three!" I took a big step, planted one foot in Catch's hands, and jumped up toward the hole in the roof of the elevator. Catch stood up, giving me the extra boost I needed. Swinging my legs around, I pulled myself out of the elevator and crouched on the roof, being careful to avoid the moving elevator cables.

"Okay, I'm out!" I shouted down into the elevator. "Someone grab my hand!" Catch hauled Taylor up and tossed her up at me. I grabbed her wrist and pulled her out of the elevator. She winced and I plopped her on the roof, but managed to sit up again.

"Next person!" I ordered. Catch pulled Toby up, and I reached into the elevator and hauled him out.

"Come on, Catch!" I shouted. Catch, the strongest of the other three at the moment, jumped up and grabbed my hand. I leaned backward, pulling him up in one tug.

"Okay," I began, shouting to be heard over the noise from the falling elevator. "This thing is probably going to explode when it hits the ground, so we should start climbing." I looked around for something to grab. "There!" I said, pointing. "That cable isn't moving! If we can jump and grab it, we'll be able to climb back up to a higher floor. Toby, Taylor, do you think you can do that?"

"Well, it's better than exploding," Taylor remarked. Toby just shrugged.

"Whatever!" I shrieked, losing my patience. "When I count to three, we all jump and grab onto that cable! Ready? One...two...three!"

I launched myself off the roof of the elevator, as did the others. The elevator cable was covered in a plastic sheet, so my hands stuck when I grabbed it, bringing my fall to an abrupt halt. When I had regained my balance, I looked down. Miraculously, all four of us had made it--Catch was right below me, then Taylor, and then Toby. Taylor and Toby didn't look so good, but at least they had made the jump.

Then Toby's head lolled to the side, and his grip weakened, making him slide down the cable a few feet.

"Taylor!" I shouted. "Toby's slipping!"

Taylor gasped as Toby slipped again. She reached down as far as she could, but drew her arm back, wincing, her back injury keeping her from extending all the way.

And then Toby lost his grip completely.

Um... Nike, the lower half of the building (likely including the lobby) is on fire.

Editing: I missed Ipod's last post.

Ranger

My stomach growled at the mention of roast beef, but I knew this wasn't safe.

"Thanks for the offer, but I don't think any of us should stay here. I asked how you got out because... this place is dangerous. There are kidnappers running everywhere and I'm pretty sure the receptionist is behind it all. We can't leave - no one's tried, anyways, but it's pretty clear they'll try to kill us if we do."

She had been ushering us inside, but suddenly I heard screams and crashes from the elevator. Turning, I pulled out my bow, ready to shoot my last arrow.

Some instinct warned me, and I turned a little farther to see flames peeking out from the stairs.

"Fire!" I screamed, pointing. The flames were eating away at the carpet of the hall now. I spotted a fire extinguisher in a class case - I shattered it and aimed the nozzle at the fire.

Suddenly someone shoved past the girl and out of the apartment, wielding a bat. Before I could even think, I whirled around, slamming the extinguisher into their head. Fortunately, they went down like a stone. Unfortunately, the fire extinguisher burst open and there was an explosion of white foam.

"Run!" I yelled, grabbing my bow back up and charging down the hallway after the others. Then I realized that Steven was gone. Oh, jeez - what if he'd been trapped in the fire?

The others were ahead of me - they wouldn't notice if I left them. I sighed for a moment. Why did I have to try to be such a hero? Then I turned back and ran into the apartment - maybe Steven was still in there.

He wasn't there, but when I returned to the door flames licked at its frame, blocking the hallway off. I was trapped. No - there was a window. Using my arrow, I smashed it open and peered outside. My stomach turned over as I realized how high I was. There was a little blue spot down there - a pool, I realized. Water, mocking me as I was about to burn.

There was the snap of burning wood, and the thud of the door falling over. Now the apartment was aflame.

I sighed again. "I just had to be a hero, didn't I?" And I jumped out the window.

Taylor

Something inside of me is pulling at me telling me to move. The unbearable pain coming from my back is killing me. I can not tell if it is broken, but if feels like it. I need to stay alive. This is the first time I am able to fight the pain. “I do not know how much longer I can take this.” I try to say, but no one hears me. “Can someone please help me?” I ask, but again my words are not heard.

“Taylor!” Sunny screams Toby is slipping.” Sunny cries. I tilt my head just to be able to see, trying to fight the pain. I see Toby hanging by just a few fingers. Without thinking about my pain, I lung forward and grab his arm. I do not reach his hand and he slip. A cry breaks free from my mouth.

I look over to see Catch hanging his head and arms over the side of the elevator. What is going on? Is he falling off to? “Catch what are you doing?” I say through my tears.

Taylor, we're in the elevator shaft, hanging for our dear lives on a cable. I don't think I can bend over. But I'll try. :P

Catch

We all jumped and made it onto the cable. I landed, not so perfectly. My right hip slammed into the cable, and I nearly fell, but I clenched my hands on the coarse cable. Suddenly, I remembered "The Rope" in gym class.

In my high school, there was a giant, thick nylon rope suspended from the gymnasiums ceiling. Students would attempt climbing it to the top, most of them succeeding. I always struggled a few yards up before becoming entangled in the rope or falling off it.

Not exactly a great thing to recall while climbing an over hundred-thousand yard tall elevator cable with flames licking at your your ankles.

Taylor snapped me back to the present with something half scream, half cry. "Catch! What are you doing?"

I looked side-to-side. Was I falling? No. Was I on fire? No. What was wrong?

"Trying not to slip off a slick elevator cable. You?"

Taylor just stared, mortified. It was then that I realized Toby was falling.

"Oh, come on!" I growled. He was out of my reach. Taylor had tried to catch him but failed. There was only one thing to do.

"Well, my name is Catch for a reason." I let go of the cable. I dropped past Taylor before grabbing Toby's hand. With my other hand, I grasped the cable. Our terrifying decent stopped. We were both back on the cable. But the fire was closer.

Thanks for joining Nike, but as Ranger said, the lower part of the building is on fire, and it is visible from outside. There is no bellboy and the check in person is a lady called Ann, who is the only person running the place.
