"Catch!" I shouted, looking down the elevator shaft. Catch had fallen past Taylor, so I couldn't see him anymore. "Catch!"
"I got Toby!" Catch called up to me. "They call me Catch for a reason, you know!"
"Okay, hang in there!" I replied. "Taylor, do you think you can climb?"
"No, my back is killing me!" Taylor groaned.
"Alright," I said, thinking up a plan. "You guys just hang in there. I'll climb up, get some elevator cables, and see if I can pull you guys up. I think these things have pulleys at the top of their shafts. Don't fall off, okay?"
I didn't wait for them to reply. Bracing my feet against the side wall, I started walking up the elevator shaft, using the cable to pull myself up. I didn't have to go far before I found a loose cable. The end was frayed, the individual threads splayed apart. This was the one that had snapped, the one that had sent the elevator plummeting down the shaft. I grabbed it and slid back down the shaft, stopping just before I ran into Taylor.
"Here," I said, leaning down toward her. "Tie this around your waste. I can help if you want."
I was about to hand Taylor the cable when there was a boom, and a blast of hot air. "There goes the elevator," I muttered. "Come on, let's hurry up."
