Catch

I stared at the flames, spreading like a contagious illness. The Stomach Flu came first to mind, considering that I had just witnessed death. My belly felt like it was being turned inside-out.

"We have to do something," I was trying to sound heroic, but my horrified, squeaky voice kind of killed the mood. "What about Ranger and the others?"

"Crap," Sunny muttered under her breath.

Taylor spoke up. "But what can you do? The lower half of the building is on fire. You can't get inside!"

"No," I sighed miserably. "We can't get in." I scanned my surroundings, until my eyes locked onto the only thing that wasn't on fire at the moment. "We can't get in. Not through any entrances, anyway." I pointed at the window cleaning platform. "We can use that window washer... elevator... thingy to get above the fire, and climb through one of the windows."

"Good idea, Catch! But..." Sunny looked at Taylor pitifully.

I thought for a moment. Taylor's condition was a problem. "Maybe you can take Taylor to the hospital. I'll rescue the people in the building."

Sunny and Taylor both frowned, like they actually wanted to risk their lives, again. But then Sunny nodded, reluctantly saying, "Good plan."

I climbed onto the window cleaner platform - whatever it's called - and pressed a red button. The machine made some creaky, not very reassuring noises, and sped up alongside the building.
I just got my way :elephant: living every day

We managed to get through the street, watching the apartment building go up in flames... not completely, but almost. Just as we turned the corner, I noticed something. Something escalated down the side of the building.

People! Survivors! On the window washer platform!

"Stop! Stop driving!" I yelled at the cabbie, my heart racing.

"But I can't, the people behind me are already mad enough with the hold up of emergency vehicles!" he complained, wide eyed.

"Just stop! There are survivors!"

With a holt, he turned his tan face toward me. Shock was written on his face.

"What? There can't be, unless you can see all the way to the top..."

"No! Look!"

I pointed out the window and he followed my finger. With a smile, we both jumped out of the car and already smelt the fire arousing in the building. Right away, police officers ran to us, telling us to get back.

"No, sorry. I need to tell you something," I said.

That didn't catch their attention at all. All they did was push us even more back, their hands pushing us even further away.

"Look!" I yelled, pointing at the window washer platform.

They didn't bother.

"Police officers! Survivors! On that platform!" Cabbie said.

Bet they thought we were trying to fool them, just so we could like dash or something. But shockingly they turned their heads and saw the people go down the building slowly but cautiously.

The people were becoming more visible but the smoke started to cover them up. The police ran up to the fire fighters and ambulance crew to tell them what was going on.

My heart raced and my breathing became rapid. I couldn't help but shiver from fright for the other people in there. I knew there were other victims or even survivors in there that needed help.

"I didn't catch your name," I said suddenly, trying to change the mood.

"It's Josh, yours?"

"Nike,"

"How old are you?" he asked, catching what I was doing.

"Eighteen, you?"

"Twenty,"

We were about the same age, he looked twenty though with his ruffled hair and soft complection. I could even say he passed for a seventeen year old.

"College?" I asked.

"Yeah, Harvard,"

"I'm going to National Louis in the summer,"

The flames burst even more as the sounds of sirens erupted again. Looking to my right I saw more ambulances rushing toward us. People were honking their car horns as well, pissed at the hold up. They should've blocked the road. Guess they had no time for that.

I leaned into Josh's arms, afraid I would start to cry from all this stress.

Great time to start a new life, huh?

The firefighters couldn't do much as the lift stopped mid way. From a far, I could see people talking to the survivors in the building. It's as if they were making up a plan. But to my surprise, one of them actually stepped into the building. What was he doing?!

My eyes weren't getting into focus as I blinked. Realizing a second too late, tears rushed down my face in silence. I pulled away from Josh and tried to get passed the police men. They held a whole blockade against me as I protested and tried my best to push through.

All I could hear is my heart thumping rapidly against my ears, even the sirens were a distant memory. The heat radiated from the building to us, the fire just growing up and up.

I couldn't believe this could happen to people like this. So unexpected. They could've been my new nieghbors in the apartment, who would've known?

All the emergency vehicles stood by, watching everything that was going on. At the moment, they couldn't help them. They couldn't force the guy to get out of the building.

Then all of a sudden, I saw some people rise from the ground, damaged and covered in pain. Not only that, but blood was rushing down their skins. It wasn't only me who say them, doctors rushed to their sides, helping them get away from the apartments.
Firefighters and police moved out of the way, leaving them room to walk to the sterile white ambulance safely. I carefully scanned their bodies, regretting the images that ran through my mind.

I wouldn't be able to survive that, trust me. Someone would have to save me from a burning building like that.

Just thinking that reminded me of the guy who jumped in all by himself into the fire pit.

"Guys! Guys! There is someone still in there!" I yelled, feeling my throat clog up.

A police officer that stood in front of me, turned around, showing me his worried expression.

"We can't save him..." he sighed.

"What do you mean you can't save him?! He's a survivor! Help him!"

"He chose freely to go in there. It's the same with suicide attempts, we cannot stop them."

All I want to do know is hit a baseball bat on his small, idiotic, bald head.

I felt someone's hand touch my shoulder and I quickly pushed it away. The shivers still bursting through my body. Who dare touch me right now?!

"You have to do something," I pleaded.

"Sorry m'am,"

Turning back around, I scowled at the back of his head. My heart rate sped up, pushing against my tight chest.

"Nike," I heard Josh say.

"What," I replied, harshly.

"You can't just stand here, feeling sorry for people you don't know..."

This time I turned around to face him. His eyes full of sorrow, but his mouth was twitching into a fake smile. A smile no one deserved right now.

"Are you kidding me?! Just because I don't know them doesn't mean I can't care for them, I hope you know that!" I hissed.

That forged smile slide off of his face, realizing how right I was. A lot more people were crowding around us, watching the building. Even their faces had sadness and worry written all over it except for Josh right here. He seemed to not even give a damn two shits.

But just a second later, I caught a smudge of care tint his eyes. That's when I knew he was doing the fake smile just to get me to be more calm and happier. I don't know why happier but it does make sense. Not to worry at all. They'll be fine. That's what the emergency vehicles are here for... I think. They didn't help that guy. Defined him as a 'suicidal attempt'.

"Josh, they aren't helping that guy." I whispered.

"I know, it's his choice. I know, I would even want to help him, but we can't just go into the building and save the guy."

That's all he had to say to make me happy. Thank you Josh.

It's a sad day guys *sniffle*, *yelp*, *cry*, *sniffle*. Toby is about to die!!!! No!!! It can't be.

Toby's death scene- Part 1

When I was a really little boy, I loved reading. Dad would read books to me in bed when he got home from work, and Mum would during the day when I was outside. Mum liked to read me educational books, but at the time, I didn't know they were educational. Dad loved education too, but I liked adventure stories. One of my favourite books when I was little was a book called Toby Alone. I liked it becaise he main character had my name and because he was a child and really adventurous. He was being chased by his own friends and everyone hated him but he survives and at the end the goodies win.

Don't ask me why I'm thinking about that right now, but I think it just hurts me that I wanted I have an adventurous life when I was little. I wanted to be the goodie and always win. It happened.

I've had an adventurous life.
I'm a goodie.
But I'm not winning.

Catch snaps me back to reality.
I He's tilting his head to side in a confused fashion.
I look at him sympathically. He did nothing wrong. He was just unlucky to come in at the last minute and be on the losing team. Catch is still looking at me confused.
I start crying, then I let out a little laugh.
"Go." I say croakily.
"Don't stop."
He turns and looks at the window. Taylor and Sunny are clambering out of it.
Taylor sees me. She is standing on the rail underneath the window on the outside of the building. With her hands, she's gripping the window will tightly. She's about to let go when she uses one hand to wave me over. We had all decided to jump. We'd chosen a window above a hot dog cart and were ready to go.
I shake my head at Taylor, I'm not coming, I have business to do.
Because Taylor used a hand to wave me over, she's holding on with hand.

I see a flash of panic on her face, then she's gone.
Sunny is standing on the rail as well, and looks down at Taylor.
Sunny falls too. I walk up to Catch and grab his hand. He pulls himself up onto the window sill and brings his feet over onto the rail. I kiss him on the hand.
"I'm sorry Catch," I say. "It was fun while it lasted."
He salutes.
"Put that down," I demand, indicating his hand on his forehead.
"Catch ya' later," he says with the cheesiest, most loving grin ever.

He jumps.

I close my eyes and hold my breath, praying for their lives.
Then I solemnly walk to the stairs, and head up, following the note's instructions.

To death.

Ranger

I fell, trying to maintain a spread-eagle to slow myself at least a little. The ground leaped up at me. I'm going to die. Yep, I'm going to die. And I moved into the place to get a little peace! But I managed to aim myself so I hit the pool rather than concrete.

It was, to say the least, the mother of all belly-flops. Water gushed over my head as I sank like a stone - any air I'd tried to take in was shoved from my windpipe, and for a moment, I hung limply in the water. Then my feet hit the bottom and I shoved off, gasping for breath as my head broke the surface. I dragged myself out of the water, chest heaving as it tried to regain air.

I was alive. I had just jumped a hundred stories and I was alive! I saw my bow lying on the ground, where I had thrown it before I hit the pool - a wet bowstring was useless - and picked it up. My eyes rose to stare at the apartment. Flames reached up as far as I could see - it seemed a miracle the building didn't collapse.

Suddenly I saw a figure jump onto a window washer nearly above my head. The ropes supporting it were on fire, though, and for a moment they seemed panicked.

"Jump!" I hollered up to them. "There's a pool down here!"

Sunny

I was moving to pick up Taylor when there was a loud whoosh behind me--

And the next thing I knew, I was soaking wet. I spun around. Behind me was a pool, the water splashing out in great waves. I ran to the side and looked in. There was a person in there!

A few seconds passed before she swam up to the surface. She hauled herself out, grabbed the bow lying on the pavement, and looked up at the window washer's platform. Catch was still up there, trying to look into the burning building. "Jump!" the girl hollered. "There's a pool down here!"

"Ranger!" I exclaimed, momentarily forgetting about Taylor. "You escaped! Oh my God! Where are the others?!"

Dude... that's kind of cold. We're here to write a story, not correct grammar. But Ipod, he's kind of right... just make sure that you don't use run-on sentences.

Ranger

The ropes snapped, and they were hanging by a foot - it was too late for them to jump now. I looked around desperately for something to catch them with - they'd just crush me if I tried to catch them myself, from the height they were at. There - there were a about a million cushioned seats nearby. I threw all the cushions in a pretty big pile under the person - it wouldn't be much, but it might keep them from breaking their neck.
