Vampires and Slaves (Enter This Realm To Die)

Allan

I wonder where this is going, sitting back again and wrapping the blanket around me. Having them talk about me is so weird.

"Yes, we were there," My mother replies.

Fidelis

I closed my eyes, took a breath, and opened my eyes again. "Most vampires don't live to be as old as myself or the Queen. She's 5219 years old while I myself am 5019. And I know. That's very old for one as young as I look, but I've been like this since I was Allan's age. The older the vampire is, the wiser. Or so I've been told."

Allan

Whoa...

There's silence for a few moments.

"That's hard to believe," My father says, "5019?"

Fidelis

I nodded. "I was born in Ancient Egypt and the eldest child of four heirs. I was the only son of the Pharaoh, whose wife was a pottery merchant. I had quite a firm relationship with my sisters and wasn't at best terms with my parents. They wanted me to be the perfect prince, not some gentle-natured potter that I wanted to be. By the time I came of age, I was turned to this...this...this blood drinking creature against my will. After my sisters were murdered, I was taken from the palace and turned into the creature I am now." I sighed. "Once you've been turned to a vampire, you appear as the age you were when you're turned. Not once have I physically aged. Vampires were called immortals for such matter. I've been physically Allan's age for five thousand and one years."

Allan

I listen to his story and close my eyes, leaning against the couch cushion.

"Ancient Egypt," My father muses, "I never would have guessed."

Fidelis

"Of course, I have left my mark on history from time to time. Some of the pottery on display were made by my own two hands." I could still remember the feeling of wet clay being shaped in my hands. Pottery gave me the power of creativity, being able to work at my own time for any price, allowing my employers to show off my work without giving my name. "As I told you, my mother was a pottery merchant before she married my father. Neither of my parents ever realized I had a talent for pottery, but then again I never attempted to show them so. My first ever attempt at pottery was two months before I was changed. Five tries to make a pot and I left it in my parents' room just to prove I have talent. They never knew it until they were at their sickbed, when I told them the truth that I was a vampire and talented pottery merchant."

Allan

I drift in between unconsciousness and consciousness, aware of the words being spoken but having no reaction to them.

"Ah," My father says, "Well, sometimes that's how it is. My father was a farmer, to be honest, and didn't understand why I became such a city kid until his own deathbed."

Fidelis

I checked the clock. Time has slipped away and dawn was approaching in two hours. "I have to go now. Perhaps we can talk more tomorrow, when we have more time. Like all vampires, I have to rest all day. If you want to speak with me more, come here anytime." I went back to my apartment, but didn't bother going to bed. Instead, I took Allan in my arms and laid down on the couch with him. I kissed him good night and fell asleep with him in my arms, covered by a blanket.

Allan

The voices fade as I fall asleep, arms wrapping around me and pulling me close. I assume Fidelis is home and sleeping, seeing as it no longer feels like night. I cuddle into him and smile in my sleep, my head on his shoulder.

Fidelis

I slept in peace as I listened to the beating of his heart. When it was just after dusk, I rose from my sleep and fed from his neck. I did it slowly and took three mouthfuls. After bandaging his neck, I returned to Silver's apartment. I sat there on the couch and watched Allan's parents walk in. "I just woke up and fed before I got here. And no, I haven't taken enough to kill Allan. I can't kill him at all. He's no good to me dead and it's also against the law of the Queen to kill a bloodslave."

Allan

I wake and Fidelis is gone again, voices in my head from the earpiece. He's speaking with my parents. Yawning, I stand and head to the kitchen, making myself something to eat.

"Interesting. So your kind have your own government?" My father asks.

Fidelis

I nodded. "The Queen makes the law of which all vampires- recently turned and ancient alike- must obey. If a vampire dares to break a law, he or she is sent to the Queen and has a case put to the Council. The sentencing is much like the judge and jury of the mortal society. The Queen is the judge and the Council is the jury. After that prison incident, the Bloodlust Twins abducted me and Allan to be presented to the Queen and be judged. I was found not guilty by the Council because I never told anyone of the existance of vampires or revealed myself as one except to Allan.
"The Queen herself is actually a gentle-natured vampire, older than myself by two centuries. When I first met her, I was brought to her on account of associating with mortals. It was two decades after I freed Celeste. The Queen and the Council found me not guilty because I never revealed myself as a vampire. I presented a case against the Bloodlust Twins on account of killing infants, a case that I backed up with my knowledge. Upon hearing that I was a target for revenge, the Queen gave me an offer that I just recently accepted."

Allan

I finish my meal and think to quickly take a shower, but sit on the couch again instead, wanting to listen.

"An offer?" My mother questions. "What kind of offer?"

Fidelis

I took a breath. "She offered to make me her King. I didn't accept the offer until recently because I wanted to be in my own place and do pottery once I've settled down. The night I killed the Bloodlust Twins, I told Silver- who's the Queen's bloodslave- that I finally accepted the offer of becoming King on the conditions that I take care of some old business and stay in the residence of my choosing. Although I'm the vampire King now, I chose to stay here because I've decided to settle down in this city. Knowing the Queen, no vampire would ever find out where I live because I'm very protective of Allan and- since I killed the Bloodlust Twins single-handedly- I might be feared as the executioner."

Allan

I play with my sleeve as I listen.

"Ah, I see," My father says, "Well, I'm glad you decided to stay here. It's a comfort knowing that Allan is still in the city."
