I tried to think it over on that question, but it was hard. "Silver has some friends in the medical building. She could provide me with bags of blood for a while." I couldn't think straight while hurting inside.
Look down and show some mercy if you can. Look down, look down, upon your fellow man.
I felt wounded inside. I know he wanted to wait, but I didn't want to wait too long. I wanted to turn him while he still had his youth, but- true to my word- the decision was ultimately his. It pained me to imagine him in his old age. While I stayed forever eighteen, he would grow old and eventually turn to dust. Once his life is over, I'd have to wait a century for another mortal with special blood to replace him. "If that's your choice, then so be it. I won't force it upon you like my maker did."
Look down and show some mercy if you can. Look down, look down, upon your fellow man.
I open my mouth to respond but close it quickly, not sure what I want to say.
"Just... I-I..."
I swallow, trying to come up with something other than I'm scared to or I don't want you to replace me, but it's to no avail. I look down and feel a little hurt, imagining what he might be thinking or feeling.
I'm never what I like I'm double sided And I just can't hide I kind of like it When I make you cry 'Cause I'm twisted up, twisted up Inside
I could tell he was more wounded than I was. I wrapped my arms around him again and held him. "I don't want to lose you. You're the first mortal in my eternal lifetime who puts up with me and trusts me. If I lose you, how will I remember you in centuries to come? I don't want to lose you and be alone for centuries all over again. Being alone for as long as I have, it's not a very easy life."
Look down and show some mercy if you can. Look down, look down, upon your fellow man.
He takes me in his arms and holds me, explaining himself.
"I-I just..." I'm not sure how to explain it. "Y-you won't lose me. I-I just don't want to take on that life right now. I-I don't want to become a bigger burden to feed."
I'm never what I like I'm double sided And I just can't hide I kind of like it When I make you cry 'Cause I'm twisted up, twisted up Inside
I stroked his hair. "You won't be a burden. I would teach you how to hunt the same way I did. I would teach you everything I know of." I tried not to look wounded, but it was beginning to become a battle I couldn't win.
Look down and show some mercy if you can. Look down, look down, upon your fellow man.
I gave in. I couldn't argue with his logic. Whether he knew it or not, he defeated and emotionally wounded me. "Just don't make me wait too long. I don't want to wait until you're too old to keep your promise. That was the mistake I made when I turned an old friend. It drove him to madness and forced him to burn himself to death. I don't want to make that same mistake."
Look down and show some mercy if you can. Look down, look down, upon your fellow man.
I looked in his eyes. "I'm not forcing you, Allan. You know I'm not." I got on my feet. "I'll be outside for a while. I need some air." I went out the door and outside, taking in the cool night air to calm my aching heart.
Look down and show some mercy if you can. Look down, look down, upon your fellow man.
He leaves and I can't help but feel a little guilt-stricken. I tighten the blanket around me and lean against the couch cushion, sulking. I bury my emotions and stare at the fabric in front of me. I should have just said yes...
I'm never what I like I'm double sided And I just can't hide I kind of like it When I make you cry 'Cause I'm twisted up, twisted up Inside
As I strolled through the streets, my heart ached more. I was hoping Allan would've understood that I didn't want to be alone if he died of old age or murder and didn't want to wait until he was too old for the change. I want to keep him young when I turn him. A few years might turn to decades and it'd be too late for me to save him from dying of old age. I tried to calm down, but couldn't. My heart ached too much for me to calm down.
Look down and show some mercy if you can. Look down, look down, upon your fellow man.
I'm in between consciousness and unconsciousness when I notice the figure looming over me. Blinking, I realize it's not Fidelis or Silver and I jump up, opening my mouth to scream. A hand clamps over my mouth and muffles the scream, the man staring me in the eyes.
"You're gonna stay quiet," He threatens in a whisper, "and you're gonna cooperate."
Before I can process it, something tears at my neck and I try to break away. I bite his hand and a scream escapes before the pain of the foreign fangs in my neck overwhelms me.
I'm never what I like I'm double sided And I just can't hide I kind of like it When I make you cry 'Cause I'm twisted up, twisted up Inside
