It is actually labelling them. Labels are used by other people to determine WHAT you are. Its not necisarily a bad thing, but saying someone is a chiropractor is labeling them as one, even if they are in fact a chiropractor. THEY dont need to know what they do, other people do. hence, labels.
For centuries, theologians have been explaining the unknowable in terms of the-not-worth-knowing.

its a combination of style/lyrics (i.e. OMG MY GIRLFREIND DUMPED ME I WANNA DIE!!!!!) Type things, and that they are overall overly EMOtional, thus, emo. Also, if they dress the "emo" style, even if they aren't they're going to get labelled that way.

Thanks, I know what you "think" emo is. Practically every band in the whole world has written about getting dumped or losing someone. How do you decide how something is "overly" emotional? Personally could I therefore call The Beatles emo.

How do you dress emotionally?

Yes..well, I'm emo. And l love it. I'm not the particular "woe is me" as you would word it, I dress that way because I like it. Band shirts and beat up jeans are my thing. Though I prefer red converse to black...I have both. I dress that way because it's what kind of music I like...and it's better than being prep, jock, etc. Used to be prep/cheer but that's over. So yeah...I don't have emo. I love it. And there's nothing wrong with it. Emo/punk, perhaps, would suit me better.

Where emo is a verb!

I've been called emo. I never liked labels. meh. but like Misty Lynn said: it's better than being called a prep or a jock. I like what I am, whatever you want to call it.

Of course you dont like labels.

They identify what kind of food your buying. They identify what book your reading at school.
They identify almost anything in this modern world.
So if your allergic to anything, your labeled as "Allergic", then theres "Levels 1-5".

Your avatar is a label. So is the title of this thread.

I can even call you anti-labelist!

And yes bobo, Artist is a label. Anything that can describe something is a label.
Your Emo
Your an Artists
Both legit labels.

That's just a stereotypical version of a Emo. Its like all people who have never been to Scotland think men have ginger hair and wear freakin' kilts. (How fun ;) ). Yeah, okay so there are people who feels sorry for their self and wants everyone to care - But most people don't.

I don't see a problem with American-style "Emo" or any style of dress. Sorry, but I am a labeler and I don't have a problem with admitting it. I mean, what's the big deal about it? I don't see why people make it such an issue...if you're a prep--so? Get over it. If you're a nerd--so? Get over it!
Anyway, as I said, I don't hate Emo...I don't hate Goths...I don't hate anyone or any style of life. All I ask is that you respect mine, and I'll respect yours.

I love labels too. It makes life more...fun. But I went to a tiny school of 100 kids where there weren't really labels. So now I'm more out in the world and it's just something different. :P And I love boys in eyeliner, as long as they can pull it off. I respect all style genres, too, though I do not necessarily like the people inside the genres

So...you're conforming non-conformists. It seems so silly to wear all the same stuff so as not to look like everyone else.

My biggest problem with 'emo' style is the mindset behind it. "Oh woe is me, no one loves me everyone hates me I'm gonna spend all my money on the over-priced crap at hot topic to make myself feel better. I'm anti-consumerist but I still buy all my clothes at a store that supports the child-labor industry. I listen to angry music on my i-pod and write angsty poetry because no one understands what is like to be a middle class highschooler with normal problems. Woe is me! Woe! *riiiing* Oh wait, lemme answer my brand new picture-phone my parents got me..."

It drives me CRAZY.

You people any me, why dont you actually get to no what the thing is before you start a debate about it, I myself ia emo and I dont act anything like that, also emos dont where baggy jeans and listen to heavy metal, they listen to pop rock, and where tight jeans and bright colours.

*isn't sure if this is going to follow suit or not*

I don't like labels. My personal opinion - labels are completely unfair, and just give you an unwanted idea of how others view you. Added to that, there are plenty of people who CANNOT be labeled.

Emo is just another label. Different people have different views of it. So there's bound to be controversy.

If you wrote in English, perhaps what you said might be understandable. It usually looks really bad for your side of the argument, or your interjected opinion, if nobody can actually read what you're saying.

My thoughts: I know a couple self-described emos. They dress similarly - both guys - in close-fitting jeans and t-shirts. Usually band shirts, if they can get away with it because of our school dress code. They have "emo" haircuts - one has dark brown hair, the other dyes his black.

They don't cut themselves and they don't whine about how nobody likes/cares about them. Actually, they're kind of smug and self-absorbed because they're the best-looking guys in the school. And they listen to heavy metal and indie rock.

Funny - in different places, it looks like emo means different things.

Although I did hear something about "scenecore" emos - the pop-rock ones in bright colors - and "delcore" emos, like the two boys I mentioned.
