Kasie gazed out the bright window, trying not to look at August. She'd been such an idiot. Driving home at night without Coon, who usually barked at her if he felt something might happen was such an idiot move. "Sorry," she mumbled softy, tears brimming on the corner of her eyes. She felt so weak, almost as if she was helpless. She sniffed softly, wiping her eyes with the back of her hand. Crying was one of the things she hated the most, especially when it was in front of someone else.

"For what?"August askeed.

"being stupid."She whimpered.

"Hey, it wasn't your fault. THe other driver was drunk. It wasn't your fault." he replied. "YOu need to rest, you hit your head hard."
"And you wonder why we don't like you!" -Trumpkin

Kasie laughed lightly and shook her head slowly. "No, it is my fault. I was such a bone head to think I could go off alone to a place two-thousand miles away from my home and be able to take care of everything. My mom and dad divorced, dad remarried, and my mom basically kicked me out of the house. I'd been living with my ex until the day I moved here." She let out another dry laugh. "You were right you know. I've secluded myself and I've put all my differences from everyone else in a pile between me and the others. I have nobody here and after my friends visit I probably won't see them until next summer. Besides, you have to admit that you're only here 'cause your mom made you come, huh?"

"Nope." He shrugged. "She had me go check on you at the crash site. But she's been bugging me to come home."

"Why are you here then?" She asked.

"No one else is. And what would I do if something happened to you? Where would I get my dog food and who would hate me?" He aske.d

Kasie let out a small laugh and sighed, glancing over at him. "I-I don't h-hate you," she admitted with another sigh, however August seemed unconvinced with one eyebrow cocked at his arms crossed.

"Really?"

"Well... it's not hate that I feel towards you. Erm... maybe a bit of annoyance and confusion? I don't know. Never mind, forget I said anything."

**short sorry**

"You need rest, I need food. I"ll sneak you in a burger if you want." He said grabbing his light jacket.

"You don't have to." She started.

"Hospital food sucks." He smiled. "I'll be back in a few minutes."

"Be careful," Kasie smiled lightly before plopping her back against the raised pillows behind her. August just smiled back and nodded, walking out the door. Kasie sighed, knowing he probably still didn't believe her, and closed her eyes to sleep.

**bleh it stinks short too**

August came back with a bag of hamburgers in his jacket. He slipped into the room and shut the door then handed her a hamburger.

"Here, I didn't have anything put on it. There is mustard, ketchup and stuff in the bag if you want it." He said handing her some.

Kasie stared at the bag for a second before smiling lightly at August. "Thanks, a lot." He just laughed and shook his head, running a hand through his hair.

"Don't mention it." Kasie nodded at him, smiling again before she started to eat. She didn't notice it herself but her cheeks had began to flush as he stared at her.

*grr i'm like braindead!*

August saw her cheek flush red and he started eating his food and he sipped on his drink.

It had been exactly a week since Kasie was discharged from the hospital. Apparently when the car flipped she dislocated her elbow and her ankle was broken from slamming on the brakes. Coon was laying upside down on the couch, sleeping when the someone knocked on the door. Kasie glanced out the window, seeing a rented dodge magnum out in her driveway. Without even asking who it was Kasie opened the door and flung herself at the five people that stood at her door.

August looked out his window and frowned when he saw five random people at Kay's house. Her friends were here and he might as well forget talking to her.

"Can I go see Kay?" Emy demanded walking over.

"Not right now, she has visitors." He replied.

"I WANT TO SEE HER NOW!" Emy yelled.

"Shoulder, shoulder, shoulder!" Kasie reminded the guys that were squeezing the life out of her. They all laughed and set her back on the ground with smiles.

"Kasie! Kasie!" When Kasie turned around she was knocked to the ground by Emy, who was latched onto her neck. Kasie winced when she landed on her shoulder and smiled painfully.

"Hey kid."

*gotta get to school sorry:(*

**Tis cool**

August groaned and he hurried after Emy who decided to take off out of the house.

"Sorry." He said walking over and prying Emy off Kay then giving Kay a hand up. He held Emy firmly on his hip and turned to head up the hill.

Ashton, the tallest of the group, pryed Kasie in the side, smiling wildly as Kasie stared at him, wide eyed. If he said what she thought he was going to say she'd literally kill him. Ashton smiled sadistically before running his african american self up to August. "Hey big boy, you wanna go do something with us?" Kasie groaned aloud. Ashton was known in her old town to be the guy who could always imatate a gay. At August's surprised expression, however, Kasie couldn't help but laugh to herself, her face turning red while she held it in.
