"That was pretty brave, what you all just did," Layne said as he walked into the small uncovered house. Four people stood in front of him, all staring in disgusted awe at the fifth who sat at the kitchen table, gulping down a golden liquid while stuffing his mouth. Layne scowled. Of course, he had to walk into the same room as someone with utter disregard for sophistication.
"What was?" Returning his attention to the four people in front of him, Layne found himself towering over a girl with coal black eyes, and nothing less to be said about her hair. Her whole demeanor seemed protective; unwilling to let Layne through the door for fear he was a shadow in disguise.
"Oh, I don't know, the acrobatic show, maybe? What do you think," Layne responded, tilting his head to the side.
"Well aren't we just a bit sparky," the girl replied, crossing her arms.
"The name is Layne, actually, but sparky works." the girl glared at Layne as he smirked. "And I was referring to you and the other girl shooting from the roof, not to mention destroying the roof, and fending off those shadows."
"You saw that?" another girl stepped up, crowding around Layne even more.
"Yes, and I'm sure everyone in the county did also. Not to mention that faint," Layne said with a laugh. "Priceless."
The girl's gaze shied from him as she backed away. These people were obviously unaffected by the shadows; he would need their companionship if he ever were to destroy the shadows once and for all.
"Who are you?" the black haired girl hissed, taking one step closer to him.
"Layne Robbs, fellow unaffected. And you, dark one?"
"Raven. Don't call me that."
