Reign of Darkness first try

STORY

The year is 2009. This is set here and now, just in an alternate universe where not everything is as it seems.

A hidden darkness, dark side, whatever you want to call it, is quickly encasing the earth. Emotions follow it; anger, hate, sadness, pretty much everything that’s pure evil. It spreads via people. When one person gets it, everyone they come in contact with gets it. It’s not a disease, more like a shadow; following you wherever you go and making you feel terrible. It’s causing quarrels, fights, wars. It makes best friends enemies in one outing. It cannot remain.

Some people have realized that this isn’t normal. Those people can’t see past the virtual veil hiding the shadow from their eyes. Everyone who realizes that this isn’t normal says there’s a cult behind it all and calls them ‘The Darkness’. Who they are, no one knows. Where they are, still no one knows. We don’t even know when they created the shadow. All we know is that they have to be stopped.

Ten young adults (18-30 years old) somehow are able to see past the veil hiding the shadow. It causes them more pain than joy. This isn’t a gift; it’s a curse. This curse has given them various, and different, psionic powers. Somehow, they found (‘find’ once we get the story going) each other, and have decided to set together and stop this madness. They are going to try and save the world.

Special Abilities
Please, don’t go overboard. And keep them related to your characters personality and to each other.

Physical Abilities
Don’t go all out, as stated in the rules. Keep things reasonable, e.g. ‘Expert Sprinter’. You could even say ‘Has won Olympic gold medal in sprinting.’ Or something like that. Keep it fairly short, though!

Other
Put little quirks, if any, e.g. Sleeps with the light on, or, likes to do tongue exercises every morning. If there aren’t any, just put ‘none’.

Name: Raven Thistle

Gender: Female

Age: 19

Appearance: Her eyes are pitch black, as is her hair, which is shoulder length. She’s racially white. She dresses in Goth style clothing, to match her personality.

Country of Origin: Oklahoma, USA

Personality: She’s to herself and isn’t really social. The shadow attacking her, and it stalking her at night, makes her seem depressed and dark at a glance. Around close friends she feels safer, and so lets herself be funny, gentle and happy. She feels she has to hide that otherwise.

Special Abilities: Shadow Sensing, Telekinesis, Telepethy, Concussion beams (after a looong time)

Physical Abilities: She is a great flirt, letting her mildly seduce men. Her swim speed is above average.

Weaknesses: She thinks herself an outcast from society, which makes her an easy target for bad guys to manipulate. She's also claustrophobic.

Other: She’s considered the weirdo so no one hangs out with her, and she can spit up to 15 feet away.

History: The shadow tried to take her, along with her family, when she was 14. She was the only one who remained the same, and it gave her her powers. She changed her name from Laura to Raven when she was 18. Since then, headaches have haunted her as much as the shadows have tried to.

Age: 18

Appearance: Long poker straight silver-blond hair that carries down to the small of her back. She has bright green eyes like the lush fields in England. She has tan skin, like a teenager straight off the beaches of Malibu. She has a slim and very lean body. She is very athletic. She hates to flaunt her looks though.

Country of Origin: England

Personality: Cadence is very care-free... and determined. She is mostly poised around adults and people she doesn't know, but when it gets down to it, Cadence will get "down and dirty" without a care. She would roll in mud for no reason at all, if she wanted to.

Special Abilities: Telekenesis and can commune with the elements, as her brother does. They can manipulate the earth.

Physical Abilities: She loves inventing. She is aa genius at taking apart electronics and making them deadly... or something like that. (I have no knowledge on this subject, though!)

Weaknesses: Depths and Heights.

Other: Can open a bottle cap with her teeth, still sleeps with a bunny rabbit plushie, and watches soap-opera all the time! (I don't like soap opera though.)

History: After Cadence's parents were transformed, her and her brother fled from their house, only to find themselves homeless on the street without money. They knew for sure, though, that they had to save their parents from the shadow. They just don't know how.

Okay, so that was Cadence. Now here is her identical twin (but they're fraternal twins) brother.

Name:Spencer Wayne

Gender: Male

Age: 18

Appearance: Looks exactly the same as Cadence, except that he is just a bit taller, and he has more muscle. He usually wears his hair in a "faux-hawk."

Country of Origin: England

Personality: Is usually more conserved than Cadence. He tends to be much shyer around people he doesn't know, but is quite the gentleman to the ladies. Even when he knows someone he still tends to be humble and quiet.

Special Abilities: Has the ability to converse with animals, and temporarily take on their form for a half hour or so, but it drains all his energy. He and his sister can commune with the elements, but only earth.

Physical Abilities: He loves to do fencing, so he knows a thing or two about sword fighting, and due to his fencing training his dodge is amazing.

Weaknesses: He has a softer heart than Cadence. He can't see anything in pain. Even if they are evil.

Other: Even in winter he sleeps with his window open so he can have a quick escape if anything even happens. His favourite thing to eat on everything is ketchup. He eats it on almost everything. Maybe not oatmeal.

So yeah, that's Cadence and Spencer. Their profiles. I just modified alot of things so that Cadence could have a twin.

Weaknesses: Will do ANYTHING to protect those that she loves\like, and can't bear to see people in pain

Appearance: He has sandy blonde hair, sharp defined features, icy blue eyes, a pale yet not unhealthy complexion, and a tall intimidating stance. He wears mostly black.

Country of Origin: Hamburg Germany

Personality: He's extremely tough and blunt. He's strong but if you can get past his iron shell you'll find affection and grace. He's also very dark and vague. He gets angry very quickly. He hates his power but tries to make the best of it.

Special Abilities: He can raise the dead and do anything linking with that. He can use the shadows as physical matter as a weapon, he can communicate with the dead, and he can make them do his bidding. He's like Hades 2nd in command. He can also manipulate peoples fear and pain.

Physical Abilities/ History: He was a amateur boxer in Germany. Sometimes he fights for bets and such. he developed his strength through this. He also was in the German army. He is bilangual so can fluently speak english. he doesn't really enjoy talking about the rest of his past. But he knows his power was quite expected because of his violent and sorrowful past.

Weaknesses: He can be very touchy and impulsive.

Personality: Quiet and introspective. She's very affectionate and strong.

Special Abilities: She can control peoples emotions and make them forget or remember things. She can drive them insane or cure them of there insanity.

Physical Abilities: She's very lithe and can hide easily.

Weaknesses: She's generally quite weak. (She's emotionally strong)

History: She can't remember most of her past. Only that she was kept in an asylum for becoming physically violent without knowing what she was doing.

Personality: She is a sweet, fun loving girl. She is very social, and very dependable. Kind of strong willed.
Special abilities: Morphing.
Physical abilities: Incredibly fast runner and very strong.
Weaknesses: Sometimes is too social.

Appearance: shaggy longish brown hair deep green eyes, slight stubble of a beard and a scar on his check.

Personality: A clown, he is always going overboard cracking jokes at the wrong times and putting his foot in his mouth
Special Abilities: earth and plant manipulation, he can make pillars of rock emerge from the ground and make plants grow to his will.
Physical Abilities: He is very quick witted and strategic able to make and devise plans in a moment.
Weaknesses: he can get caught up in the spur of the moment

History: He was raised in an orphanage till he was 12 and taken in to a home. His parents smothered him from then one and were very protective making it hard for him to make friends cause the always thought they were either bad or made a huge deal of it. He was always interested in battles of old history and studied it a lot learning a lot about history and the mistakes made in them. When he was 18 he went to college in NY city and he only graduated a month before and was working at a museum.

Personality: Ballow is a cautious person, who at times is amazingly random and fun. He has a sense of tainted humour and is completely unpredictable.

Special Abilities: Slow time, (What it implies, he can slow time.)

Physical Abilities: He can aim quite accurately. He is also very quick reflexed.

Weaknesses: Is scared of the being kept in slow time.

Other: Is anti-social. Every morning he wakes up and checks that the clocks are working and nothing is going slow, because he is paranoid of accidentally activating his power.

History: He actually is only about 14 (according to his birth certificate). Because once he got stuck in slow time and he couldn't get out. All time moved around him at a drastically slow pace while he grew up as normal. For 4 years he was stuck in it, (4 years normal time) while on the outside it only was about a week or 2. Of course being the age that he was his parents would not actually believe it was him and so he left. He forges his own roads and is deathly paranoid that he will be locked in a slow time. He uses his power cautiously.

Age: Twenty

Appearance: Him

Country of Origin: Sydney, Australia

Personality: Reserved. Layne has the tendency to think head before heart, and has no problem leaving someone he loves behind if it means getting something he wants. Self centered. Can be hot headed, but for the most part hides his temper until it really matters. (His self centered tendencies will change if he falls in love.)

Special Abilities: Shadow Sensing, Fire and Heat Manipulation

Physical Abilities: Not easily injured, also very thin but quite strong

Weaknesses: His past and his mistakes. Also, when he loses his temper he often forgets certain defense tactics, which opens a small area to easily defeat him.

Other: Hates the sound of people eating. If you see him scowling while eating around him, you'll know why.

History: Layne grew up the youngest in a family of seventeen. Having sixteen older siblings was never easy, and as soon as he grew enough to fend for himself, his parents left him to do that and tended to the other children. At the age of fourteen, he grew tired of the life his family presented him, or rather took away, and he ran away. Since then, he'd been living on his own, practicing defensive and offensive fighting tactics with sticks and pieces of glass found scattered on the ground. His personality renders completely from how he grew up.

Okay, we now have ten profiles. Let the games begin. I'll start with Raven.

Clouds blocked out any sunlight as Raven walked down the sidewalk. A light breeze made her ankle-length, black skirt cling to the back of her legs and flutter ahead. She stared at the squares in front of her, counting the age-old tire marks she passed.

She let out an “Ast!” when she tripped over her own feet. Her hands flew in front of her, getting scraped on the rough concrete. Picking herself up, Raven looked herself over. Her hands bled slightly, but that was it. Nothing big.

She slowly sat down, cautious of falling once again, on the dead grass beside her. The wind was picking up. Swings on the playground behind her screeched a little, swung by invisible kids. The whole neighborhood was deserted from a plague epidemic four years ago. It was the only place Raven had found that was safe from the shadow that had taken over everyone she knew. She lay back and stared at the clouds.

A bike bell rang a little ways away. Raven shot straight up and stared at them. They approached, obviously as surprised of another living being as she was.

“Who are you?” Raven snapped. “This place is cut off by the government. No trespassing.”

“I would ask you why you’re here, but you’ve done me the favor.” This kid didn’t seem like (s)he had been taken by the shadow. “So like-wise.”

“And like I said, who are you?”



Okay, next!! Here's a slot to introduce your character. Or at least, one of them.

“Who are you?” Raven snapped. “This place is cut off by the government. No trespassing.”

“I would ask you why you’re here, but you’ve done me the favor.” This kid didn’t seem like she had been taken by the shadow. “So like-wise.”

“And like I said, who are you?”

The girl was sitting quietly on the grass, her hands a little scraped up. I stared at her questioningly. Why was she here. She didn't appear to be taken by the shadow. Spencer stirred beside me, pulling the brakes on his bike.

"I'm Spencer Wayne, and this is my sister, Cadence," Spender gave a small bow. He offered out his hand. He was much too much of a gentleman. The girl took it, with a stolid expression on her face.

She appeared to me a goth. "I'm surprised that you're not part of the shadow..." my voice trailed off. I was really just teasing her, because of her style.

"I could say the same thing," she glared at me with her black eyes. Coal black like her hair. "I'm Raven."

I rolled my eyes as Spencer easily conversed with the girl. He told her about how we were now homeless, roaming the streets of this desolate town. A town that was safe from the shadow.

"Do you know if there's any others of our kind?" Spencer asked. My head perked up. If there were more of our kind, then that meant there had to be some hope for us. Maybe we'd be able to find a way to get our parents back to normal again.

“I dunno” Raven glared at Spencer, suspicious. “Somewhere, maybe, but not in this county. I barely escaped my family with my own sanity, let alone theirs.” Her voice trailed off, showing a small sign of regret, of sadness. She shook herself back to reality.

“So, then, maybe somewhere?” Candace seemed slightly desperate. It was hidden to well to tell.

“Isn’t that what I said? Come one. You look starving.”

Raven led the duo to her adopted house, one story with the outdoor lock hacked off.

“Don’t worry” Raven said when they stopped at the door. “This place isn’t nearly as scary as I’m sure I am.”

After they had all had a lunch of ham and stale mustard sandwiches, Candace asked
“Why are you being so nice? Not that you shouldn’t be, but-”

Raven, not looking up from her crust, interrupted
“’Cause I think you might be able to help me. I’m only like this because of what the shadow has done to me. It changes people when it gets… to close for comfort.”

Physical Abilities:She flirts without knowing it, and loves to sing.
