Well, I guess this is as good a place to start as any. My name is Audrey. I live in the US, and currently am in the 12th grade. I love reading to no end, and music is essential for me. I am really excited about this site, I enjoy writing, but have not have the time to do much, and I think this site will be motive me to do more, and I look forward to receiving and giving critique to improve my writing. I, being an utter newbie, have some really basic questions, that maybe some of you more seasoned members could help me out on.

1. What is the current ratio for reviews, I have seen 2:1, 3:1, and 4:1?

2. What are points, what do you use them for, and how do you get them
2.1. What are storybooks?
2.2. What do you mean by "character in the post?"

3. What do the different colors of names mean?

4. How do you post a review of work/post your own?

5. What do you mean when you say "PM me?"

6. If you are writing a novel is it possible to keep it all in one thread, but post the chapters at different times?

7. Can you post short personal narratives on this site?

8. What are clubs?

9. What are the general areas in which you can post?

Well, that is all I can think of for now. I appreciate you all putting up with my naivety. :D

Audrey

Hey there Audrey! Welcome to YWS! I'm June, nice to meet you!

1. What is the current ratio for reviews, I have seen 2:1, 3:1, and 4:1?

3:1; it was previously 2:1 and may increase to 4:1 in the future. :)

2. What are points, what do you use them for, and how do you get them

You get points by reviewing. Currently, they aren't used for much, but they will have multiple uses in the future.
2.1. What are storybooks?
A storybook is where a few writers come together and create a story together on a thread. Basically, it's just one big collaboration project.
2.2. What do you mean by "character in the post?"
If this is in regards to storybooks, then it means the character you are narrating for.

3. What do the different colors of names mean?

Colored names are a representation of position. Here's the legend:
Red = Admin; there are currently three Admins, with Nate being the headmaster/creator of YWS.

Dark Green = Moderator. Moderators represent YWS and help around the site. If a problem arises, moderators will be there to take care of it. ;) So, if you ever run into a problem, PM a mod!

Light Green = Junior Moderator. JMs focus on one area of the site, such as poetry sections or fiction-- they moderate those areas, so, if a problem arises, you may PM them as well.

Purple = Instructor. Instructors specialize in reviewing, providing constructive criticism and general advice on writing. If you need help with writing, feel free to PM any of them.

Blue = Greeter. Greeters welcome newcomers to the site, and help out with any questions a newcomer may have. If you need help settling in, PM a greeter.

And, Orange = Distinguished Member. A DM is a retired Moderator.

4. How do you post a review of work/post your own?

To review, simply go to any story/poem, scroll down, hit reply, and type your thoughts and suggestions. To be counted as a review, it must be 250 characters long.

To post a story, mouse over Read/Write. Click Submit Your Work, and you will be taken to a page where you can submit. You must complete 3 reviews to post, but your first post is free. You don't need to review to post your first story.

5. What do you mean when you say "PM me?"

PM me = Private Message me! Click the little mail Icon under someone's name, or click their name to go to their profile. There, click Send Private Message.

6. If you are writing a novel is it possible to keep it all in one thread, but post the chapters at different times?

You can, but it's preferred that you don't because people will be deterred from reviewing. :)
7. Can you post short personal narratives on this site?
Indeed, you can! Either Non-fiction or Other will gladly accept those.

8. What are clubs?
Clubs... I believe you mean groups? Basically, a group/club is where a bunch of people who share a common interest come together to discuss everything about it. Rather fun. :)

9. What are the general areas in which you can post?
The Community ( community.html ) forums are the place to discuss off-topic things; and randomness is for those that are entirely random. ;)

So! Hope that helps some! If you have anymore questions, PM me or post them here. Hope you enjoy your stay, and for the record, you're not naive. ;)

Hey there, Cindy! Welcome to YWS and I hope that you're enjoying it so far!

To remind you of the rules, take a look at Snoink's post waaayy back on the first page. Although the review ratio is now 3:1 instead!

If you need anything, feel free to PM me!

Hi there, Alivumi! (Any nicknames you'd like to be called?)

Welcome to YWS! *hands cookie*

Ok, so here are the basic rules:

1) The 3:1 ratio! Basically, that's 3 reviews for every piece of work that you post on YWS. (Be it a small poem or a full length novel)

2) No cht spk or CAPS LOCK. This also includes proper grammar, capitilization and using apostrophes when they're needed. This is a writing site, after all. :D

3) If something you post has sex scenes, excessive violence or the f-word, please put "Rated R" in the title. Some people like to know what they're getting into!

4) Be nice to other members. This means no flaming and no swearing outside of your stories!

5) Have fun!

And now, some questions about yourself *evil laugh*

What do you like to write? What do you like to read? Whose your favourite author? Watched any good films lately? What music do you listen to? What inspires you to write the most? Are you a cat person or a dog person? D'you love or hate marmite? What is your favourite word? Do you prefer to write by hand or by typing? What can't you live without? If you went to a desert island what three things would you take with you?

That's it for now, hope to see you around!

~Amy
