Candles on the Water

John

John as still standing next to Kari when she took out her history book "Wow! that's one big book" Kari nodded in agreement John looked around and saw Chase and Emily "hey will you find the page I'll be back in a minute" Kari seamed to be relieved that John was leaving. My jokes aren't that bad John thought as he walked over to Chase. Emily was talking to Abi as John came up to Chase. "So hows it going with Emily" John said.

*sorry all I got, whats on the page?"

Kari

She felt sorry for the boy, but she was embarrassed that she couldn't read. Perhaps someone would read it out. She fumbled with her book feeling utterly useless as she tried in vain to search for a page which she knew she could never find.

Abigayle

"You can just call me Abi," she said to Emily as the girl said her full name for the second time. Behind them John and Chase were talking and Jake was trying to join them. She could see Ellie helping another girl find the page. Her name is Kari , Abi thought. The others, who's names she didn't know or couldn't remember, all searched for the page.

Eventually, all reached the page after flipping from ordinance a-j and to page 1,056. "This is a book with the most accurate facts about all disasters, either natural or human caused. All of them have been caused by the influence of the ancient force or directly by." They scanned the page. It was World War 2. "Hitler has made many other presences in history. Turn to page 5,986, ordinance Q. " They struggled again to find the page. "This is Napoleon at Waterloo. Read both the descriptions and you are sure to find some similarities."
"Yes Kari?" I asked as the girl looked at me forlornly. She walked up to me discreetly and whispered, "I can't read."

" I think he likes you." Abi said look at Chase. Emily looked back surprised. Abi had already gotten to the next page, not wanting to read it she talked. Emily looked down, her cheeks flushed. Abigayle looked back at the boys who were talking softly to each other.
"So, um... Where are you from, Emily." Abi asked, trying to change the subject knowing she shouldn't have said anything she thought about Chase to Emily.

"What are you talking about" Chase said in answer to John question, "come on Chase be honest you like her and she likes you" Chases face was a cloud. John couldn't tell what he was thinking. "So what are you talking about" Jake said leaving Abi and Emily to chat. "About how Emily and Chase like each over" Jake looked a little confused "I like Emily too" Jake said John looked puzzled now ,"no Jake John means like like" Jake nodded before speaking "John can I guess who you like, like"
"sure if I can guess first" Jake nodded to John agreement " okay Jake I think you like Abi their said it now it's your turn" John waited for Jake's response

Chase

Huh? He was lost here. John first started questioning Chase about Emily, but he didn't know what do say. I mean, we just met! Chase battled with the thoughts in his mind. Emily is kinda cute.

"Hey!" Melpomene yelled. Everyone looked at her. "Please don't talk when I'm talking. This is important for you guys to know."
John and Jake moved away to try to listen to Melpomene and Abi did too. Emily looked kinda ashamed as she looked at her shoes.
Chase moved closer towards her. "Don't worry," he whispered in her ear.
She smiled back at him, then turned back to Melpomene, trying to listen to her. It was hard though, with thoughts that went through her head as well.

"Ok, so turn to page 3987, ordiance J..."

I looked down at the huge book and though it seemed daunting at first, the information amazed me. It was like the biggest history book of man-kind and even more. I turned the page and looked at the text.

The book didn't seem nearly exciting compared to the aspect of fighting. I had never done it before, but I was excellent at gymnastics and I'm pretty sure that would help my fighting ability. I was anxious to begin.

Emily

Her hands shook as she went over all of the horrifying things that has happened in the past. If all of this has happened in the past because of a single force, then what is coming in the future? She was glad that Chase was nearby.

"Why do we have to be the ones who fight these..these monsters? We just lost our parents, and we have no idea where they are. Why can't you get a trained adult who is willing to do this?" Her voice wavered at the end. She had been really close to her parents, especially her mother.

Melpomene~

"Who else would I ask? We are the only Pure Time Travelers left! Do you expect me to ask the police. The extremely literal unbelieving minds of the police? I can't do this alone. When you all came of age you would have been trained anyway. While we're on the subject though... everyone look at your goggles. We'll start at level one. You see the buttons, turn them to 1 ordinance A. This is not real, you will not get hurt. It's like a video game. I will come in and advise you too." They must have been able to tell how frantic I was. We only had about 3 days until things got pretty nasty. They had to pass all the levels. A-Z. So they immediately turned the dials and pressed the buttons. The world inside the goggles dematerialized. When the fog cleared and the setting appeared they were in ancient Greece. The sky was dark and ominous and the shadows moved like they were alive. I remembered this level. It introduced everyone to the most common deadly creature. The night Ghasts. In the hands of all the children were bronze swords. As soon as they realized it they raised them, ready to face whatever might be coming. "Each level familiarizes you with a certain weapon of that time period." I screamed over the howling wind. "For example, if you were to travel to the French revolution you'd have guns." They nodded struggling against the strong currents of gale.

Jake

Around him the wind howled. Ancient Greece stood before him, the shadows swirling in the wind. His vision was obscured, beside him stood one of the only people he could see. Ellie stood sword in hand, facing a creature. Jake concentrated on the creature trying to figure out what it was.
"This creatures before are night Ghasts." Melpomene said, over the wind," You must use your swords to defeat them." On his other side a Ghast stood, it's body blending as the fog returned, making it even harder to see. Carefully he raised his sword, its bronze blade slicing through the figure.

I looked over at the boy who so deftly took down the beast it took my breath away. Who could do that? As one charged toward instinct took over and I found myself cutting through the air and finding my target, slicing it through. It was like I wasn't doing it, but as if I had such experience with this hidden deep within me. It was similar to riding a bike, something you never forget.

Everyone around me did the same, easily taking down the ancient creatures gracefully and with ease, similar to a lethal dance into the night. We had conquered Level 1 so quickly that I saw Melpomene beam at all of us.

"And so, your training begins!"

Chase

They kept on practicing for many hours until all the kids were so tired, that they could barely stand up.
"I guess that's it for today," Melpomene said, taking us back to the park. Everyone groaned as they fell to the ground. "Everyone needs to get plenty of rest, because we are going to work more tomorrow."
Everyone just nodded as they laid on the ground, resting their sore muscles.

Emily

She lay there, fanning out her long red hair on the ground. All of the other kids had fallen asleep, but she couldn't. She just laid there next to Chase and Abi and looked at the stars. She imagined that one of the stars was her mother, shining a light down on her; guiding her. Then, the tears came. She missed her parents so much. Her whole body was raked with silent sobs. Why my family? Why?

Emily laid there sobbing the entire night, until she could not cry anymore. The sun was just coming up, and a few of the kids were stirring. She fell back down and drifted off to sleep, tears still on her face.
