Colt felt even the smallest bumps, even though he knew he shouldn't. He felt Annie's hand clutching his and he tried to squeeze it back, but he couldn't.

The next thing he knew he was being lifted up and rolled inside. Then there were several people milling around him and Annie's hand slipped away. He wanted to reach for it, grab it again, but he couldnt'. He couldn't move anymore. He felt a needle slip into his vein and then everything went dark and silent. He couldnt' feel, here, think anything.

Senra:

Senra ran inside and found Annie pacing in front of a room.

"How is he?" Senra asked.

"They aren't saying much, they asked me to leave so they could work faster." Annie said.

"He'll live, he's tough." Phil smiled.

"I know, but I'm worried. What if this is tougher then him?" She whimpered.

"It won't matter. He knows your waiting for him, nothing is a stronger draw." Senra smiled.

I smiled and hugged Senra before I sighed in frustration and plopped down in the seat. I filled out all the papers they asked me to as fast as I could. I knew the sooner I got these done the sooner they could stop worrying about stupid papers and start worrying about Colt.

"I like your system," one of the nurses said as we exchanged sets of papers, "you've actually got it right."

"I figured." I shrugged.
I just lost the game.

Senra was getting mad. She run her hand through her hair then stopped a nurse. "How is he?" She asked.

"I can't say." The nurse said before leaving. Senra growled and then crossed her arms. She tapped her foot and then sat down.

"Senra, relax, Annie supposed to be the agrivated one, not you." Phil laughed pulling her close and hugging her.

"I know, but it's annoying." She said leaning against him and sighing.

*~*~*~*

A day later

*~*~*~*

Everything in Colt screamed in pain as he opened his eyes. Annie was asleep with her head on the bed next to his pillow and Senra and Phil had probably gone home. Colt slowly lifted his head ignoring the pain and running his hand through her hair careufl not to wake her.

His hand felt light through my hair. I could tell a lot of things from this action.

He was awake
He was trying to let me sleep
he was in pain.

His hand was shaking with the effort of keeping it up. My neck strained and cracked when I tried to adjust it back to a 180 degrees intentional position.

"I'm sorry I woke you." he muttered.

"I'm glad you did," I said smiling, "how are you feeling?"

"Like i'm being tortured."

I kissed his knuckles on the bed, "do they feel any better now?"

"Yes."

She smield and he smiled back. He wrapped her hand in his and sighed lifting it slowly up to his lips kissing it.

"Stop that, your in pain." She laughed softly.

"I don't care, long as I can hear you laugh." He smiled squeezing her hand. "Sorry bout the wreck."

"Not your fault." She smiled.

"I know, it's really sad that it was just after I said we wouldn't that we did." He smiled.

"How bad off am I?" Colt asked.

"I don't know, the doctors here are meanly cryptic."

"Maybe they'll be a bit more straightfoward with me."

"Let's hope so."

As if they were listening in the doctor walked in.

"What's the deal?" He asked.

"I'm not positive you'll walk for a while, you messed up your legs real bad." The doctor said. "But othe rthen that you should be out of her in a few days."

"I'll walk." Colt said. "No doubt about that."

I tried to have confidence in Colt's bold statement, but the look on the doctors face was skeptical. I wanted to follow him and ask for the real deal, he couldn't conceal it from me, not legally at least. I was his fience, I had a right to know.

But I didn't want to be away from Colt. I rested my head against his hand, and he gently stroked my cheek with his thumb. "I'm going to walk," he promised me.

This time with his conviction I couldn't help but believe him. I didn't care if he walked or didn't, it made no difference to me. I was just afraid how he would take it. I knew if I lost my ability to walk indefinately I'd be devistated.

"Wait until they heal though," I said scarcasticly hoping for a smile. I looked up at him, and I don't know whether it was me or my comment that made him smile. But he did, and I had never seen anything more beautiful.

"I love you Annie," he promised.

"I love you too."

"I'll walk again before we get married," he said with certanty.

"I don't care either way." She said softly smilng at him.

"I know, but I will walk." He replied with a smile pulling her face to his own and kissing her ignoring any pain that he felt. He loved her, he wasn't going ot be a burden to her, no matter what he wouldn't be a burden. He would be able to walk, no matter what anyone said, he would kill himself trying to walk if that was what it took.

"What are you thinking about?" She asked touching the furrow between his eyes.

"Nothing." HE smiled up at her. "When will they let me out of here?"

"I think it will be a few days." She replied.

"How many days?" HE asked

"I'm not sure, I didn't want to ask the Doctor what all was going on, cause I didn't want to leave you." She replied.

"Then we'll ask next time he comes in." He smiled at her kissing her hand, not having the energy to pull her face back down.

I knew that Colt was running himself down, he needed to rest. "Get some sleep," I told him.

"I'm fine."

"Please," I begged. "It would make me feel better."

He sighed, "alright."

I kissed his hand and then stood up to kiss his lips. "While you're sleeping I'm going to go do a few things, I'll be back in less than an hour. I promise."

He nodded and I walked out of the room. An hour was too long, I'd be back in twelve minutes. I needed to get some shampoo and take a shower, and I was going to sneak him in a chocolate shake.

Colt fell asleep fast after she kissed him. He slept for what seemed like forever and when he woke up he couldn't even remember his dream.

"Morning." Annie smiled at him when he opened his eyes.

"How long was I out?"He asked as he tried to sit up a little but decided it wouldn't be best.

"A couple of hours." She replied. "The doctor said if we can get you in a wheel chair i can push you around outside."

"Then get a wheel chair." He smiled as he pushed himself up to where he was sitting wincing as he did.

"I can get some nurses to help you. It owuldn't hurt so bad." She said looking at him worridly.

"Just get the chair." He grunted as he moved his legs over the edge of the bed.

I returned two seconds later with the wheelchair. "They gave me an automatic one," I said with a smile. "eletric I mean."

Colt smiled and forced himself into it. I closed my eyes, I couldn't watch the pained look on his face. "That was painful," he said.

I looked at him trying to hide the sadness in my face.

"But," he forced his optimism I could tell, "that's just a sign that some day I will walk."

The doctor sighed in the doorway. "I never said you wouldn't walk, I said that it would be a while until you could. Your legs need to heal."

I smiled at the doctor, I knew that would relieve his stress.

"Good." COlt smiled.

"But don't rush it." THe doctor warned. "If you do you might never walk no matter how hard you try."

"Alright, I understand." Colt smiled. "I'll be careful." He wrapped his arm around Annie's waist for a second them started out of the room.

"Where do you want to go?" Annie asked.

"Anywhere but in here." He smiled back at her.

We walked out the back door into the gardens, it was beautiful. "Wow," I said, "it's beautiful out here."

"Yes you are."

I didn't think I heard him right, "hm?"

"Yes you are beautiful."

I flushed. I didn't quite understand why but whenever he complimented me it didn't sound like he was talking to me. He had managed to captivate me from the beginning. I always felt like he was trying to pick me up when he complimented me.

"Are you okay?" he asked.

"I feel fine," I assured him, "just thinking about something."

"What?"

"Why do you put up with me? You could do so much better than me."

He tugged on my hand and pulled me down to kiss him. "Annie, while I could do what you call 'better'-my defination of better is still you. There isn't anything better."

"But-" he silenced me with a kiss.

"No buts."

"But-"

He silenced me with a kiss again. "No buts."

"Okay, no buts."

He smiled and kissed me again, "just for good measure."

"We're making quite the spectical of ourselves aren't we?" I giggled.

"Let them look, I don't mind."

"I don't if you don't." She smiled back. He kissed her again and then moved so they were by a bench. He lifted himself up onto the bench next to her ignoring the pain in his legs. "You shouldn't do that."

"I don't want that stupid chair between us." He replied pulling her close. "i'm fine, it's a good thing that I worked out."

"If you say so." SHe sighed as she leaned softly against him. He kissed her softly and then smiled.

"So, have you heard anything from anyone?" He asked.

"Everyone went back home and keep calling to make sure your ok." She smiled. "I made them go home."

"Good, they needed the rest." He smiled

An arrow can only be shot by pulling it backwards. So when life is dragging you back with difficulties, it means that life's going to launch you into something great, so just focus and keep aiming.
